Our barrels are made from 18 to 24 month old air dried white oak staves and then kiln dried for 3 to 10 days to get a 6% to 8% liquidity in the wood. Our craftsmen fully char both staves and heads to maximize the flavor extraction. Answer:	The Ontario Knife website just says "high carbon steel" and doesn't say which alloy. Most vendor sites say 1095, which I suspect is wrong. The Ontario-Knife-Store.com site, which apparently has some strong experience with Ontario Knives, says 1075, which is much more likely.

Answer:	It's out in the shop presently or I would measure it for you; however, yes -- it is what you are looking for. Thick. Beast. You won't be disappointed. I regularly used it last summer to rid the garden of thick stalks of Jimson weed. That stuff is nasty. This knife went through like butter,, with one whack, and saw a lot of dirt. If you're looking for a thick, capable machete with some heft, you found it. The weight feels good in the hand, like you'll quickly dispatch anything at the receiving end. The handle tang will dig into your little finger after repetitions of swinging it, but that's on you. Toughen up.

Locally sourced from the PNW, we use these whole wine barrels for many different projects and uses. Each barrel has gone through the wine-making process and so will have unique markings on it. Some barrels are very clean looking, and some barrels are almost completely covered in wine stains. Each barrel is approximately 26"D x 35"H. There may be some variations in height. Some barrels may still smell like wine. Number of rings on the barrel may vary.

Question:	Will the barrels still hold water? I would like to use it as a rain barrel
Answer:	Depends on where it's leaking from. I did some prep work on mine first to try and eliminate leaking from around the spout. The spout is cone shaped, while the hole is cylinder shape, not exactly the best of matches. So I sanded down the thickest portion on the spout, and did the same in reverse to the hole (wrapped sandpaper around spout, set in hole and rotated it). When seating it, I pushed it in far as I could, then I set a small block of wood on top of it, and gave it some taps with a hammer (not hard) and that seated it. Mine will still drip from time to time as the temperature changes. The air inside will expand/contract (that's what pushes liquid inside/outside of wood) and it'll drip from around (or through) the spout. But not much, a drop or two. Here's an idea, try dripping some hot wax at the location of any leaks. Hope the wall of text helps!

Answer:	I've had this barrel for over 3 winters with no cracks. I drain and cover it with a tarp in the winter. No issues and still works great!

Answer:	I am an amatuer winemaker, and have made wine from my own grapes for over thirty years. I would not do any fermenting in ANY kind of plastic vessel. The only acceptable kinds of containers are stainless steel, glass, and wood. Otherwise, you're going to get a plastic taste, which I'm sure you don't want, regardless of the health issues. Answer:	Don't know. Don't buy it. It's a piece of JUNK!!!!! After aging bourbon in it for 5 months, it leaked half of it out and ruined my furniture. BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!

Answer:	No questions are stupid when you don't know the answer. Yes, it also dispenses the liquor from the front spout. Had our barrel now for several months. I'm not so interested in the aging aspect as I am in how cool it looks on counter, although I keep it topped off with a bourbon/rye old-fashioned blend.

Question:	How long does it take to recieve the item from time of purchase
Answer:	I don't believe so, generally these types of barrels shiny because they have a wax applied to them to help them seal better.

Question:	Do you have to sanitize this before use? What about between uses if it's a different substance
Answer:	The only opening is the top little cork hole, size of a pencil. This is not functional more of a decoration.
