13 best iron teapots
Iron teapots, also known as cast iron teapots or tetsubin in Japanese, have a rich history and are prized for their durability and heat-retaining properties. Here's some information about them:
Material: Iron teapots are traditionally made of cast iron. They are known for their sturdiness and ability to retain heat for an extended period, which is excellent for keeping tea warm.
Design and Aesthetics: Iron teapots often feature intricate designs and patterns. They come in various shapes and sizes, from classic rounded forms to more modern and angular styles.
Interior Coating: To prevent rust and improve the flavor of the tea, the interior of the teapot is typically coated with an enamel or glazed finish. This also makes it easier to clean.
Heat Retention: Cast iron has excellent heat retention properties. This means that once heated, it can keep tea warm for an extended period, allowing for multiple servings without the need to reheat.
Tea Brewing: Iron teapots are suitable for brewing a variety of teas, including black, green, oolong, and herbal teas. The even heat distribution helps in extracting the flavors from the tea leaves.
Seasoning: Some iron teapots require a process called seasoning, where a layer of oil is applied to the interior to prevent rust and enhance the flavor of the tea.
Handle and Spout: The handle and spout of an iron teapot are typically made of sturdy materials like stainless steel or cast iron. They should be ergonomically designed for comfortable pouring.
Lid: A well-fitting lid helps to trap heat and aroma inside the teapot. It should be easy to remove and replace.
Maintenance: Iron teapots require proper care to prevent rust. After use, they should be thoroughly dried and stored in a dry place.
Usage Recommendations: It's recommended to use iron teapots for brewing tea rather than boiling water directly in them. They are not usually suitable for stovetop use.
Popular brands known for their quality iron teapots include Iwachu, Tetsu Kasuya, and Yamagata Casting.
Remember that while iron teapots have many advantages, they can be heavy, so it's important to choose one that you can comfortably handle.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this with an induction coil? It seems like it would be perfect for that |
Answer: | I do not know what an induction coil is, I use it on my gas stove. It is a very sturdy tea pot. |
Question: | where is this made |
Answer: | China. From package: "All Unity Teapots are made of FDA approved materials and are certified lead-free." |
Question: | Where is the product made |
Answer: | I do not know where it is manufactured, but I bought it as an alternative to a higher priced Japanese tetsubin tea pot and absolutely love it! |
Question: | Has anyone used the cast iron teapot warmers that use tealights? If so, do they produce enough heat to keep the tea warm |
Answer: | Tealights works, but they smear the bottom of the teapot with dark smoke. I now use a cup warmer and I found this Disney mug warmer to be very suitable and inexpensive: http://amzn.com/B00AZEZ50Q. You get a nice mug to keep too. The hype about this teapot that keeps the tea warm by itself is not true. Cast iron does not retain heat by nature. You do need the warming solution like the tealight of mug warmer. |

Question: | Is the handle all metal or enamel coated metal |
Answer: | I would say it is all Metal |
Question: | Can this be heated on a stovetop or does it hold hot water |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the bottom flat and/or painted? I want to use it on a glass top range |
Answer: | The bottom is painted the same color as the rest of it. It's not meant to be heated on the range though. You heat the water in a tea kettle and then pour it in this teapot to brew. |
Question: | What color handle does the moss green fidelity teapot have? Black or brown |
Answer: | I bought the red one and it was black. |
Question: | How much water/tea can the teapot hold |
Answer: | If you fill it to the tippy-top, it's just about 27 ounces. Subtracting the water that the tea absorbs, you get 26oz. I don't like to say it holds x amount of cups, because people use cups of all different sizes. I use tall 14oz mugs. This teapot makes two perfect cups of tea for me. But in the tea world, a "cup of tea" is generally agreed to equal 6 fluid ounces. When buying a teapot, if it says it makes 3 cups it usually means 18oz. This annoys me so much that I need a cup of tea to calm down whenever I think about it.Tips: I like fairly strong tea, so I put 4 teaspoons of tea in the basket. (Not a measuring spoon, an actual teaspoon.) This measures about 10-12 grams, depending on the tea. Also, I recommend that you do NOT wash the inside of it with soap. As long as you don't put sugar in the pot, you only need to rinse it out and put it upside down to dry.(Oh, and a "cup of coffee" is about 5oz, so keep that in mind too when buying coffee makers.) |
Question: | Is the bottom flat? Is the bottom painted |
Answer: | Hi, the bottom of the teapot is flat. I do not believe the bottom is painted but I'm not 100% sure. Do you have a concern about the bottom being painted? I don't use the tea kettle on the stove. I boil the water and add it to the pot but I have used it with a warmer that keeps the tea hot without any issue. I love the tea pot. I use it at work and get lots of compliments on it. It makes amazing tea! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is it made? What country |
Answer: | China |
Question: | Does this have a coating on or in it? I want a 100% iron kettle. Thanks |
Answer: | The mfg description says “The cast iron teapot in the heating water process will release Fe2 +“. I don’t see how it can be enamel- coated AND release iron. |
Question: | where is it made |
Answer: | China |
Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | I have Tetsubin from both Japan and China. This one is made in Japan! I purchased this almost a year ago and love it. I really preferred one made in Japan, especially since it's raw iron and not porcelain on the inside. Of all the tetsubin I own, this is the best raw iron I have, and was very inexpensive, even competing with the cheap Chinese copies. If you check out other sites that sell this brand, you can confirm that this is really Japanese. |
- Handmade Kiyoshi Luxury: Perhaps it’s the unique shapes, prints, and 2-Tone Colors we use for each Tetsubin that makes them the preferred Japanese tea pots for things like Corporate, Anniversaries, Weddings, or Engagement Gifts. Or maybe it’s because we treat tradition with esteem, (2 cups instead of 4 which is bad luck). Either way, Kiyoshi Luxury is only for those who “know” and honor special tea.
- The blue butterfly: Kiyoshi Luxury Tea Sets come in 5 different designs, each one individually molded, and hand-painted in a labor-intensive two color process. It produces the most stunning finish you’ve seen on any similar pot. They’re not a cheap Japanese teapot, which is great news for anyone frustrated with mass-produced clones. This design is The Blue Butterfly, symbolizing love and happy relationships
- What's in the set? Contains one solid cast iron teapot weighing 3.2lbs and holds 25.36oz of your best quality Japanese Green Tea or brew of choice. 2 teacups with printed flower design and matching trivet, leaf shaped saucers and stainless steel tea infuser. Rust-Proof enamel inside, with a hand painted and glazed exterior, which makes this “tetsubin”, a tetsu kyusu! Made for brewing tea but not for boiling.
- Need more cups? In Japanese Tradition, gifts in sets of 4 are bad luck. So instead of 4 small 2oz cups, we give you two large 4oz cups. And if you need more, you’ll find them here by searching Kiyoshi Luxury. Also of note, Kiyoshi Luxury is Certified Lead Free, Food Safe and comes with follow up service to solve any shipping problems. Plus, a 30-Day Money Back Guarantee for risk free ordering.
- For special tea: You may know that Iron is the traditional element for 6th Anniversary Gifts for Men or Women, and special tea sets are adored by those who respect the stillness of ceremony. So if you’re looking for something a step above “just a cuppa” or can’t bring yourself to gift loved ones a bad-luck set with 4-cups, check out The Kiyoshi Color Trend Collection and choose now the right color for you.
Product features
KIYOSHI Luxury - 7 pieces Tea Set - Blue Butterfly
Like all drinkers of fine, special and ceremonial teas, everything matters. Everything matters to the tea leaves you carefully chose.
And so, when Kiyoshi started hand making this quality of teapot we went straight to the 300 year old home of all Japanese teapots. And there, our team of artisans individually molded, hand-painted and glaze-dipped a range of exquisite tea sets - The Color Trend Collection.
… It’s tradition-dipped luxury for those who ‘know’ tea.

Sealed Interior, And Easier To Clean.
The traditional tetsubin is a cast iron tea kettle, inside and out and made for boiling water. But The Kiyoshi Color Trend Collection is in fact, tetsu kyusu! This is a special tetsubin with tough interior enamel and a hand-painted, ceramic glazed exterior. And it’s for the special act of brewing tea and enjoying those still moments.
This also makes the tetsu kyusu easier to clean (just rinse and air dry), and ensures it’s rust-free on the inside. If you don’t want iron in your tea, the Kiyoshi tetsu kyusu was made for you.
Need More Cups?
In Japanese Tradition, gifts in sets of 4 are bad luck. So instead of 4 small 2oz cups, we give you two 4oz cups with your tea set. And if you need more, find them here by searching Kiyoshi Luxury. Just don’t gift all 4, deal?
A Gift For A Chosen Few
A tea set like this isn’t commonplace, so don’t just buy it for any old tea bag drinker. Kiyoshi tea sets are only for those who know and respect the traditions of tea and appreciate craftsmanship with 300 years of history.

Question: | Do you boil the water in this pot |
Answer: | Hello, For every teapot that has enamel layer inside such as this one, we don’t recommend to use it on stove top as it could damage the enamel layer inside. This is not our recommended use. We always recommend to use another vessel to warm the water and then pour it inside the teapot. However, if you really want to use it on stove top, it is possible. Just make sure that water is inside the teapot before to place it on stove top. |

Handmade Tradition-Dipped Kiyoshi Luxury
Like all drinkers of fine, special and ceremonial teas, everything matters. From the teapot itself, its curves, looks, and life’s purpose of keeping hot tea hot, to the shape of the teacup, how it feels cupped in your hand and the satisfaction of a drinking edge that feels just right. Everything matters to the tea leaves you carefully chose.
And so, when Kiyoshi started hand making this quality of teapot we went straight to the 300 year old home of all Japanese teapots. And there, our team of artisans individually molded, hand-painted and glaze-dipped a range of 2 exquisite tea sets - The Timeless Collection.
… It’s tradition-dipped luxury for those who ‘know’ tea.

Sealed Interior, And Easier To Clean.
The traditional tetsubin is a cast iron tea kettle, inside and out and made for boiling water. But The Kiyoshi Timeless Collection is in fact, tetsu kyusu!
