| Answer: | Yes, coffee and hot tea. These mugs are a hard plastic and won't melt with hot liquids. I did an informal test with my dual-probe thermometer, boiling water, and this mug vs a ceramic Fiesta latte mug, both of which began at ambient room temp of 68 degrees. The ceramic mug lost 34 degrees right away. After 15 minutes the temp difference was 21 degrees--plastic 153, ceramic 132. I didn't quite believe it, so I repeated the test with similar results. I then did the test with cold green tea from the refrigerator, no ice. They both began at 37 degrees, but the ceramic almost immediately "shot" up to 41 degrees. After 25 minutes it was Fiesta 43, plastic 39. If you're still reading, this is the type of endeavor I pursue in order to avoid doing laundry or cleaning the bathroom. But, I got bored and ended the test. I was surprised to learn that the plastic was a better insulator than the ceramic, but because I am OK with room temp. beverages I really don't care that much. Plus--I really love my Fiesta, so I will continue to use them for coffee. I drink cold green tea from the plastic mugs. Don't ask me why, there is no logic to this. |
