Differences in Steel

In metallurgy, stainless steel is defined as a steel alloy with a minimum of 11.5% chromium content by mass. Stainless steel does not stain, corrode or rust as easily as ordinary steel (it 'stains less'), but it is not stain-proof. For example, mayonnaise left on a knife blade in the sink seems to stain the blade a darker color.

There are different grades and surface finishes of stainless steel to suit the environment to which the material will be subjected in its lifetime. Stainless steels have sufficient amount of chromium present so that a passive film of chromium oxide forms which prevents further corrosion. Stainless steel's resistance to corrosion and staining, low maintenance, and affordability make it an ideal base material for a host of commercial applications including flatware.

There are different types of stainless steels: when nickel is added, the austenite structure of iron is stabilized. Care

Most stainless steel spoons and forks are marked with their steel chemistry; usually 18/0, 18/8, or 18/10. All of these compositions should give you years of use with limited maintenance. If you notice discoloring, or small oxidation marks on your stainless, it can usually be cleaned off with hot soapy water, and a sponge. If that doesn’t so the trick, use a good quality stainless polish. Often, a rust spot on your flatware is not the flatware itself, but a dissimilar steel peeler or other item leaning against it in the dishwasher. There are many unique finishes available on flatware these days. The most durable and stain resistant is a high gloss mirror finish. A smooth mirror finish leaves little for oxidizing agents to attack. Satin finish (also known as brushed) breaks the surface of the steel, so it is more prone to staining. However, satin finishes, like on our Norse pattern, can be revitalized simple by scrubbing (in the direction of the 'grain') with a scotch-brite pad, or very fine steel wool. This cleans off the surface, and adds more micro scratches. Don’t try and scrub a frosted (also known as sand blast, or bead blast) finish, such as Pendulum. Just use a good stainless polish and a soft cloth.

Answer:	Blue and brownish-purple, more toward the purple side than brown, in my opinion! Gave as a gift, so I can't pick up a piece and look at it right now. I wish they had more accessory pieces in this pattern. The giftees love it!

Answer:	We installed ours as an undermount and while I am not sure, it does have a slender top flange so I don't see why not. it is a great sink.
Question:	Are there serving dishes to match
Answer:	Thank you for your question on the DSE233194. The bowl dimensions are 14" x 14".
Question:	Do these scratch easily
Answer:	The drain hols are 3-1/2" (89mm).
Question:	I see 2 different colors in the pictures. One set has more color, the other is more plain. If I order 2 sets will they be matching
Answer:	My sink took about 10 days. Mainly due to UPS weekend delay.

Question:	How many oz does the bowl hold
Answer:	Kyocera serrated ceramic knives cannot be sharpened as the sharpening of the edge would remove the micro-serrated feature of this knife.
Question:	How do these plates fit into the dishwasher? Will the tall lip make it awkward to load in the dishwasher
Answer:	Several companies make plastic kitchen knife blade covers for your cutlery. You can purchase most of them on Amazon. "Ultimate Edge" and "Messermeister" sells single knife blade covers, or sets of covers for different size blades. I purchased different sets and use these covers on all of my kitchen knives that are stored in drawers. Just do a search for knife blade covers on Amazon. - OR - You may want to purchase a knife block to hold this ceramic knife, and more of your kitchen knives. Do a search for knife blocks on Amazon, and do a search for Kyocera knife block on Amazon. Kyocera makes a 3-slot Bamboo knife block for their knives that hangs on the wall.
Question:	Are these dishes oven safe? We don’t own a microwave and use toaster oven instead
Answer:	Not really. This knife is "micro-serrated" for thinner skins, like that of a tomato. The serrating may be a little small for a crusty bread.
