Question:	I cannot use it on new macbooks due to apple's stubborn use of usb-c only. what adapters are there. i found only the apple thunderbolt adapter
Answer:	If you are only using this for a windows PC i would recommend reformatting to ntsf. If you want the drive readable by a PC and mac try ExFat fomat. I use mine on a mac and i fomatted it to mac OS journalled. I would not recommend fat32 format under any circumstances. Answer:	You can format it in ExFAT then it will work for both Max and Windows platforms. The downside is some of the old OS won't work for ExFAT format.

Answer:	I use this on a Mac with Time Machine backup and it works great. Very fast data transfer with USB, runs very quietly. The silver color also matches the apple imac.

Answer:	I can't find the transfer speed listed anywhere, even in LaCie spec sheet - https://www.lacie.com/www-content/datasheets/pdfs/lacie-mobile-drive-DS1997-2-1812US-en_US.pdf Based on previous experience with LaCie portable HDD units, I would guess 130-140MB/s range. This is a 2.5" HDD and whether connecting to a USB-C, USB 3.0, or Thunderbolt 3 port, speeds will be the SAME. This is not an actual Thunderbolt 3 port on the drive, it is USB-C which is "compatible" with Thunderbolt 3. And also, for a basic drive like this, the hard drive itself is the limiting speed factor. Connecting to Thunderbolt will not increase performance, basic physics. The drive can only deliver so much data per second, period. If speed is a big concern, then you need to look at an SSD portabl drive with USB-C or Thunderbolt 3, then you will see massive speed improvements. SSD will cost a lot more of course.

Answer:	The DriveStation Duo comes set up in RAID 1. Under heavy access, the drive will make noise since it is deleting from both of its HDDs att he same time.

Answer:	We are not sure about the encryption, but it is unlikely that the RAID would function across both units anyway.

Answer:	Capacity for 2 drives. Each 4 TB. Can be configured mirrored for capacity of 4 TB or a single partition across drives fro 8 TB.Mirrored means if one drive fails you don't loose any data.

Answer:	If a drive fails, easy to drop in a new one. If hardware fails, I would suggest searching buffalo's support site for user experiences with that. Data recovery of individual drives is not easy if I recall. I have owned 4 over more than decade, only had one drive failure. Recommend their products

Question:	how long would it last? is it a good back-up plan for decades to store your life photos
Answer:	I can answer this in two ways. First it will last for at least 10 years because tow of mine have done this already! Secondly, I have a larger 16TB one I use to back up all of my business things and it is over ten years old. I have two 4TB that I take with me when coaching and speaking out of the country, they have never let me down. I also Have one 2TB which I ship to my coaches with updates and it has traveled all across and always comes back home in perfect condition. Great Product and trustworthy.
