14 best stainless steel pots
Stainless steel pots are a popular choice for cookware due to their durability, versatility, and aesthetic appeal. They are widely used in home kitchens for various cooking purposes. Here's what you need to know about stainless steel pots:
Material: Stainless steel is a type of metal alloy that contains iron, chromium, and sometimes other elements like nickel or molybdenum. This combination gives stainless steel its unique properties, including corrosion resistance and a shiny, non-reactive surface.
Durability: Stainless steel pots are known for their durability. They can withstand high temperatures and resist staining, rust, and corrosion. This makes them a long-lasting choice for your kitchen.
Non-Reactive: Stainless steel is non-reactive with acidic or alkaline foods, which means it won't impart any unwanted flavors to your dishes. This property is particularly important when cooking dishes with tomatoes, citrus, or other acidic ingredients.
Heat Distribution: Stainless steel pots often have an aluminum or copper core in the base, which helps distribute heat evenly. This ensures that your food cooks uniformly, reducing the risk of hot spots.
Versatility: Stainless steel pots are suitable for a wide range of cooking techniques, including boiling, simmering, frying, sautéing, and more. They are compatible with all cooktops, including gas, electric, induction, and ceramic.
Easy Maintenance: These pots are relatively easy to clean. They are typically dishwasher safe, although hand washing is recommended to maintain their appearance and prevent discoloration.
Appearance: Stainless steel pots have a sleek and modern appearance. They are often chosen for their aesthetic appeal, and their shine can enhance the look of your kitchen.
Sizes and Types: Stainless steel pots come in various sizes and shapes, from small saucepans to large stockpots. You can find them with or without lids, and some sets may include multiple sizes for different cooking needs.
Cost: While stainless steel pots can be more expensive than other cookware materials, their durability and long lifespan can make them a cost-effective investment in the long run.
Maintenance Tips: To maintain the shine of your stainless steel pots, avoid using abrasive cleaners or utensils that can scratch the surface. If food sticks to the pot, soak it before cleaning, and use a gentle scrubbing pad.
Cooking Tips: Preheat your stainless steel pot before adding oil or ingredients to prevent sticking. Stainless steel is excellent for searing, as it can develop a fond (browned bits) on the bottom of the pan, which can be used to create flavorful sauces.
In summary, stainless steel pots are a popular choice in the kitchen due to their durability, non-reactive properties, even heat distribution, and versatility. With proper care, they can serve as reliable cookware for a wide range of cooking needs.

User questions & answers
Question: | can I stack the pots |
Answer: | They are very hard to stack because of their lids. The lids do fit nice and tight on each pan BUT when you flip it upside down to have the handle out of the way, for a nice flat surface to stack, the lid slides off causing a tumble. We stack the pots and pans only (no lids) and place the lids on the side. It's not space friendly but they didn't compromise on these for storing ease..... Wish we could of had both |
Question: | Why are mine yes-stick and black after the first use? I have been boiling them with dish washer to see if i can remove the stains with no luck at all |
Answer: | The blackness is charred glazing from whatever your cooking. To prevent or minimize, heat the pan slowly with low heat and a little oil. For cleaning, Bar Keepers Friend is great. Other things you might have on hand are cream of tartar, and or vinegar. My personal favorite is using wine while the pan is still hot. Wine is an excellent deglazing tool, and depending on what you’re cooking can add flavor, if done while the food is still in the pan. Happy cooking! |
Question: | Have any of you considered the multi-ply set from Cooks Standard and Tramontina? If so, what made you choose Cuisinart? I'm having trouble deciding |
Answer: | UPDATE: Comparing Cuisinart, Tramontina and Cooks Standard triply clad stainless steel cookware. In checking further professional reviews, I realised that there were a couple of errors in the information in my original review, below. Tramontina is manufactured in both Brazil and China. The triply clad cookware is ALL triply clad stainless. Another model is their gourmet prima, which looks very similar, but has only the triply base. Tramontina tested out positively against both Cuisinart and Cooks Standard in three cases, and both its triply and prima models beat out Cuisinart altogether. Cooks Standard was not a contender in the latter review. The main selling point for Tramontina over Cuisinart and Cooks Standard is quality, design and efficiency. Cuisinart and Cooks Standard both have flared rims, making pouring better. Cooks Standard is thought to lack beauty. However Cuisinart’s handles are poorly designed, stay too hot and have a point which can cut into the hand. Tramontina triply only offers the flared rims on its skillets. Their Prima model offers it throughout. Regardless of that drawback, Tramontina is consitldered a superior product in the three areas tested. In view of these clarifications and additional information, I have since decided to purchase the Tramontina cookware, over the Cuisinart. I do apologize for the original review errors, and hope that this additional information is as helpful to other buyers as it has been for me! baj |
Question: | Will it work on induction cooktops |
Answer: | Stainless, cast iron and enameled cookware generally ok. Some cladded pans as well. Goodwill got all my old aluminium. Be cautious of sizes of the bottom of the pan. My LG induction top has three sizes and too big or too small just will not turn burner on. Perhaps as it should be, I guess. But check your cooktop's manual for any word on pan sizes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the diameter of the lid |
Answer: | The part that fits inside of the 2 qt. pan is 7 inches in diameter. The lip that provides the seal makes it a 7 3/4" diameter. |
Question: | Does it have a transparent glass lid |
Answer: | No, it doesn't have a glass lid. It is the same as the pot, and it's quite nice. It has a great fit. This is one of my favorite, most used pieces of cookware |
Question: | Does this pan hold 1 qt. or 1 1/2 qts.? In some places, the size is listed as 1 qt. and in others |
Answer: | Mine is most definitely 1 1/2 qts. I tested it with a measuring cup. Also, the packaging says 1.5 Qts and it's also stamped on the bottom of the pan. I think the website is messed up. I noticed when I was looking at it that it say 1 Qt until I clicked on it, and then it said 1.5 Qts. I read the reviews and saw that other people mentioned that it was 1.5 Qts so I ordered it, and they were correct. |
Question: | Where was it made |
Answer: | China. I think all of their stuff is made in China, with the exception of a set made in France (I believe it's the "French chef" set or something obvious like that). |

User questions & answers
Question: | What are the dimensions of the 12 quart pot |
Answer: | Not counting the handles or lid. To the very top it is 11". Across the top it measures 12" inside diameter. (the sides are straight, so the inside bottom should be the same) This will be fine for dry goods. If you are filling it with a liquid, then it is 9" high, just below the bottom rivets. If you fill it above the rivets, it will leak. If you are going to boil water, I wouldn't fill it any higher than 8" max. |
Question: | quart - What is the height and diameter of the 20 quart pot |
Answer: | The dimensions given for an 8-quart pot are larger than the 12 and 16-quart pots. |
Question: | What is the diameter of the 20 quart pot |
Answer: | The review is correct. I purchased when living in a condo with gas burners. When I purchased a house with a glass top stove, my fears concerning the pot were confirmed. Bringing to a boil takes twice as long on the glass top. Time for an upgrade. |
Question: | Is the bottom of the pot flat, or does it have a ridge around it? I have a glass-top stove, so I need it to have uniform contact area on bottom. Thx |
Answer: | The height is 13.625 inches. Thanks |

User questions & answers
Question: | do the handles on the pans get hot to the touch while cooking |
Answer: | In my experience, it depends on how high you're cooking. At normal general temps, the handles on the pots and pans themselves are generally not too hot to the touch, but if you cook with the lids on the whole time, the lid handles will need to be removed using a potholder. |
Question: | Do the lids fit over the frying pans |
Answer: | 1 lid (the largest) fits on the two biggest frying pans but the smaller lids don't fit on the small frying pans . |
Question: | Is this set |
Answer: | SKH .. PART 2 OF 2 .. Cuisinart 77-17N - is set 18/10? This is an enlightening article. Copyright © 2013-2016 CenturyLife.Org ... Link: https://www.centurylife.org/in-depth-product-review-cuisinart-multiclad-pro-aka-mcp-or-multiclad-professional-tri-ply-professional-stainless-steel-12-inch-skillet-30-cm-frying-pan/ ----------------- Sometime around 2010 Cuisinart stopped advertising Multiclad Pro (MCP) as SAE 304 (18/8 or 18/10 stainless steel; the 18 refers to 18% chromium, and the 8-10% refers to 8-10% nickel). Amazon still hasn’t updated their product description; it still says 18/10 there. I contacted Cuisinart for clarification, but they wouldn’t tell me exactly what stainless grade they use now. Note 1: As an aside, many companies that advertise 18/10 stainless use something more like 18/8.3 stainless and round way up to 18/10. Note 2: 18/8 or 18/10 stainless is strong and rust-resistant, which is why high-end cookware usually uses it Note 3: we can be fairly confident that Cuisinart is using at least SAE 202/204 (18/4) stainless in Multiclad Pro, since MCP is Cuisinart’s highest-end product line, and the interior of MCP is not strongly magnetic Note 4: almost all stainless steel cookware made today (including All-Clad -and- Cuisinart Multiclad Pro) is made with a bottom-most layer of SAE 400-series (18/0) stainless in order to be induction-compatible. That’s because the addition of small amounts of nickel in stainless makes the steel less magnetic, so you can’t use 18/4, or 18/8, or 18/10 stainless on the bottom and still be induction-compatible Note 5: 18/0 is still fairly rust-resistant–it survives dishwashers without rusting–but try to avoid letting your stainless pots sit in puddles of water for days on end. Note 6: note that the rivets on Cuisinart MCP have stainless interior caps, but the exterior is aluminum, so if you clean the rivets a lot (especially if you run MCP through the dishwasher a lot), the outside part of the rivets will look less shiny. The dullness is purely cosmetic. ========================================= 42 reviews (Positive, Style Name: Cookware Set|Size: 17-Piece) .. 4 or 5 star. User questions & answers
Question: | How many inches of the 4qt deep saute pan |
Answer: | Sorry I don't know..this was a present |
Question: | White spots? Considering returning. After just one use and a gentle wash, the bottom (on the inside) is splotchy with white spots. Manufacturer |
Answer: | Chalky white spots are a common problem when it comes to stainless steel, as it's often caused by a buildup of the calcium found in tap water. To rid yourselves of these cloudy stains: Bring a solution of one part vinegar and three parts water to boil in the pan, let it cool and then wash and dry as you normally would. You can also use baking soda or a stainless steel cleaning product named BarKeeper's friend |
Question: | Is this manufactured in USA |
Answer: | Not based on the photos.. just look at the photo of the bottom of the pot. It says made in China |
Question: | Does aluminum disc come in contact with food |
Answer: | No aluminum disc not come in contact with food because aluminum disc is sandwich in steel layers |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the handle length of the 2 quart and 3 quart pots? Also the weight of each of these? Thanks so much |
Answer: | I only have the 4 qt. pot. The handle is 7 1/2 inches or 19 cm. It weighs 3 lb 5 oz or 1496 gms w/o lid and 3 lb 14 oz or 1778 gms w lid. Sorry I don't have measurments on the others although I do plan on getting them as my Calphalon are pitting and warping. This is an excellent pot. |
Question: | does this pan work with induction cooktops |
Answer: | Yes, the MultiClad Pro Triple Ply Stainless products are compatible for cooking on induction stovetops. Below is a link to a cookware guide from Cuisinart.https://www.cuisinart.com/share/pdf/manuals/cookware.pdf |
Question: | Does this 3 qt saucepan match the 3 qt that comes with the multi clad pro set |
Answer: | There is an older style set with a different rounded handle, the newer one is improved, and there are a few sources of a similar sets that have glass lids. I bought the newer set on Amazon in December and this 3 qt pan would match it. I think that the newer version has the N in the stock number. You can go to the Cuisinart website and see all that is available and cross check the numbers. |
Question: | where is it made |
Answer: | I have two Cuisinart pans. One says "Made in France" and the other doesn't say. Even the Cuisinart website doesn't say so I would assume they have factories in more than one place. I found a chat room where someone is saying MultiClad Pro is made in China: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/765317 |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it made in the USA |
Answer: | Larger one has a small upturned edge, not really a spoon but a thin edge scoop I would say. |
Question: | What is the chromium/nickel ratio of this stainless steel |
Answer: | The answer that said 9 1/2 " and 10" was correct. I have used mine and wash them in the top of the dishwasher, which was recommended, and they are fine. I prefer the soft rubber spatula to the harder silicone ones that are totally dishwasher safe. Being more flexible does the job better for me! |
Question: | What are its dimensions? How tall/wide is it |
Answer: | No, it’s a herb grinder. You know like natural herbs 👍🏼😆 |
Question: | Is this made in China |
Answer: | Absolutely! Wood works well, and so does plastic, but don't use sharp metal (it might scratch the non-stick coating). |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this pot and pan sets be used with conductive cooking |
Answer: | Yes, of course this cookware can be used with conductive stoves. The complete flats make the cookware set also fine for glass and ceramic cooktops. (Not compatible with Oven) |
Question: | I notice that it says aluminum inside. where? between stainless steel? or am i cooking on aluminum |
Answer: | The aluminum inside is between a layer of stainless steel on the outside bottom of them and a layer of stainless steel on the inside bottom. In other words, if you cut the pot/pan in half, you would see three layers at the bottom, the 2 layers of stainless steel sandwiching a layer of aluminum. This is very common practice so you get the benefits of a stainless steel cooking surface with the even heat conduction of aluminum. |

User questions & answers
Question: | is there any nickel in this pot |
Answer: | 304 Stainless contains about 10% nickel. 430 is nickel free. Their diagram indicates the nickel-containing SS on the inside. Proper construction would put it on the outside out of contact with food. |
Question: | why did the bottom stain when I made lamb stew |
Answer: | That would probably be a question for the manufacturer. I've had no issues so far with cleaning the pot, also is the stain you mentioned on the inside bottom of the pot or the outside? For tough stains try soaking it in dish washing liquid and then use a scouring pad. Hope that helps. |
