Answer:	The one I have I'd call it a recessed stamping onto the bottom in the center of the bottom. The pot has two rows of what you might picture in your mind as tire tracks. Then in the center there is this writing I am referring to. But I'd definitely call it a recessed engraving.

Answer:	I had exact same situation. Do Not use abrasive scouring pads. They will ruin the beautiful stainless steel shine. I used soft cloth with a bit of lemon juice after first washing pot with normal soapy dish cloth. Shine magically returned. Manufacturer explained to me that it was a cloudy chemical deposit ( maybe chemical reation of heat/prolonged cooking and salt deposit) but the lemon took care of it with minimal effort. Pot is beautiful again!
