Purpose: The primary purpose of a Granite Ware steamer is to steam various types of food, including vegetables, seafood, and dumplings. Steaming is a healthy cooking method that helps retain the nutritional value and natural flavors of the food.
Material: Granite Ware steamers are made of porcelain enamel-coated steel. This construction offers several advantages, including even heat distribution, resistance to staining, and durability.
Design: Granite Ware steamers typically consist of two main components: a large pot or stockpot with a lid and a removable steaming insert or rack. The steaming insert sits inside the pot and allows you to place food on top of it, so it's steamed by the rising steam from boiling water in the pot.
Steamer Insert: The steamer insert often has holes or perforations to allow steam to circulate freely around the food. Some steamers also include a lid for the steamer insert, which helps trap steam and cook food more efficiently.
Versatility: Granite Ware steamers can be used for various types of food preparation. You can steam vegetables, seafood, tamales, and even make homemade dim sum or dumplings using these steamers.

Use on Different Heat Sources: Granite Ware steamers are versatile and can typically be used on various heat sources, including gas, electric, and induction cooktops. Some models are also safe for use in ovens.
Longevity: With proper care, Granite Ware steamers are known for their durability and can last for many years, making them a cost-effective addition to your kitchen.

User questions & answers
Question: | how do you do returns |
Answer: | 8 Inches across the bottom. 10 1/4 across the top on the 3 quart. I don't have the 5 quart but the site says its a couple of inches larger across the top so I'd guess the bottom is also a couple of inches larger. |
Question: | What is the height of the pan without the lid |
Answer: | FALSE....Recipes including very acidic foods, like tomatoes and citrus juices, should not be cooked in seasoned cast iron until the cookware is highly seasoned. The high acidity of these foods will strip the seasoning and result in discoloration and metallic-tasting food. |
Question: | What is the difference between the Blancher and the Pasta Pot |
Answer: | The 5 qt does have a 12" lid.. the 3qt has a 10.25 lid.. the 5 qt lid does fit your skillet and other 12" lodge pans ( I have a lodge wok it also fits) |
Question: | Re: basket insert. What is diameter of holes |
Answer: | Shippin Weight is 15 pounds. I am guessing weight is 13 pounds. Skillet probably 10 pounds and Lid is probably 3 pounds. This is clearly a heavyweight skillet. This means, if you want to tilt it and use spatula to move something out, it is a 2 preson job, onr to tile pan and 1 to use the spatula. I use mine on glass cooktop, so am extra careful. Sometimes by finished cooking, expecially if I go throuh multiple cook empty cycles and then wash it, I feel like I have been through a workout.I haven't decided, if my wife is afraid to clean it or just considers it to heavy for her. It is really my treat. And I've never had better steaks other than in a great steakhouse, not a chain than since I bought the skillet.Let steak come to room temperature, dry if moist, heavily salt with sea salt and use equal or more coarse ground pepper. Have skillet warmed up on medium or a bit less. Toss steak in and let it sear should hear sizzling, if not, it wasn't hot enough. for 3/4" to 1" thick -- 2 minutes a side, if someone wants it more well than medium rare, take pan off heat and put lid on. until it is almost where they want it. Sit on a rack over a plate for about 10 minute rest and enjoy. Bought some marked down rib eyes that were thin, about 3/8" at Kroger last night. wife loved them because they were medium after the 4 minutes searing, 2 each side. I still enjoyed mine because tender and juicy. But I really prefer a steak I have to run to catch! Sorry for the digression! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this for water bath canning |
Answer: | I have used this canner for water bath jam and it works great. Though it would be nice if it came with a separate lid for that- I was able to find a separate glass lid that did the trick. You could use the lid it comes with without latching (as a cover only), however I used to own one with a glass lid and I liked that feature. It’s just a personal preference though and won’t effect the end result. |
Question: | Can you use this one on a glass top stove |
Answer: | Not recommended |
Question: | Will a half gallon jar fit in the canner |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Can this be used on a gas stovetop |
Answer: | yes most definitely! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you do a second layer of 1/2 pint jars 2 double the capacity |
Answer: | No. I tried stacking 2 pint jars, one on top of the other and it was an inch and a half above the rim of the canner. To bad the designers did not consider making the canner a little taller. |
Question: | What is this made of |
Answer: | The lid looks like either polished aluminum or stainless steel. The surface of the pot itself is concealed by an anodized surface - whatever that is. |
Question: | Can this be used on a glass top stove |
Answer: | I'm guessing you can. Unless you have to use special types of pans for glass top stoves. |
Question: | How many quart size jars does this hold |
Answer: | 4 quart jars, or 7 pint jars. I like it because it can process and cool down much faster than my bigger 22 pint canner. So much so, you can have another batch going and be done quicker than using a larger canner. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this product have a gasket |
Answer: | Yes, there is a gasket around the inside of the lid. There is also a small O-ring on the release valve. The product is well made. |
Question: | We have a smooth cooktop and can only use certain pots and pans and am wondering if this is okay to use? My old pressure cooker says not to use it on smooth cooktops so need to find another one that will work |
Answer: | Hmmm, I have a gas range, but I know smooth cooktops (aka glass top range) pose an issue for canning, particularly for pressure cooker canning. As I'm sure you know, pressure canning uses a higher heat level for foods that are lower in acidity, else the bacteria are not killed. My understanding is that a lot (but not all) of glass top ranges automatically shut off at higher temperatures, such as those involved in pressure canning. That shut off feature protects the stovetop from cracking, but it keeps the temperature too low for pressure canning. I did a little investigating, so try this website to learn if your range is described under the section titled "Guidance Specific to Certain Stoves". Here's the url: http://www.pickyourown.org/cannings4glasstop.htm.Hope this helps. |
Question: | I just bought this and when it arrived I realized it does not have a pressure gauge? How are you supposed to know what pressure you are at |
Answer: | The ad copy says it is a weighted canner. Read your canning book/recipe and it will tell you the weight and how long to pressure can your recipe. For example, and this is an example, the recipe might say: Pressure cook peaches at 15 lbs. for 25 minutes at 3,000 feet elevation Hope this helps! |
Question: | Will this work with an induction cooktop? If not, who makes one similar in size and price. Maybe I'll have to get a manufacturer to make them for me |
Answer: | Even though a magnet won't stick to this, you can buy an induction adapter plate which gets used kinda like a coaster for the pot. Instead of the pot getting hot by itself, the adapter gets hot and transfers that heat to the cooker. do a search here for induction adapter. |
