13 best tramontina dutch ovens

Tramontina Dutch ovens are a popular line of cookware known for their quality and versatility. Dutch ovens are typically made of cast iron or other heavy materials and are designed for slow cooking, braising, roasting, frying, and baking. Here's what you should know about Tramontina Dutch ovens:

  1. Material and Construction:

    • Tramontina Dutch ovens are often made of high-quality cast iron. Cast iron is an excellent material for even heat distribution and retention, making it ideal for cooking a wide range of dishes.
  2. Design:

    • Tramontina Dutch ovens typically feature a round shape with sturdy side handles for easy lifting and transport. The lids usually have tight-fitting knobs to keep steam and flavor locked in during cooking.
    • Some models come with an enamel coating on both the interior and exterior, providing a smooth and colorful finish. This enamel helps prevent rust, simplifies cleaning, and adds an aesthetic appeal to the cookware.
  3. Sizes and Capacities:

    • Tramontina Dutch ovens come in various sizes and capacities to suit different cooking needs. Common sizes include 5.5 quarts, 6.5 quarts, and 7 quarts. Smaller and larger options are also available.
  4. Versatility:

    • Dutch ovens are known for their versatility. You can use them on the stovetop for searing or browning ingredients and then transfer them to the oven for slow-cooking dishes like stews, soups, roasts, and braised meats.
    • They are also suitable for baking bread, casseroles, and desserts.
  5. Heat Distribution:

    • Cast iron Dutch ovens, including Tramontina models, excel at even heat distribution. This ensures that your food cooks evenly without hot spots, which is crucial for achieving consistent and flavorful results.
  6. Maintenance:

    • Tramontina Dutch ovens with enamel coatings are relatively low-maintenance compared to traditional bare cast iron. The enamel resists sticking and staining, making it easier to clean. However, they should still be hand-washed and dried thoroughly to prevent chipping of the enamel.
    • Bare cast iron Dutch ovens, which are also available from Tramontina, require seasoning to maintain their non-stick properties and prevent rust.
  7. Cooking Tips:

    • When using a Tramontina Dutch oven, it's advisable to preheat it gradually to avoid thermal shock, especially with enamel-coated models. Gradual heating helps prevent the enamel from cracking.
    • Wooden or silicone utensils are recommended to protect the enamel surface.
  8. Durability:

    • Tramontina is known for producing durable cookware, and their Dutch ovens are no exception. With proper care, these Dutch ovens can last for many years and provide consistent cooking results.

In summary, Tramontina Dutch ovens are versatile and high-quality cookware options, suitable for a wide range of cooking techniques and recipes. Whether you're simmering a stew on the stovetop or baking a crusty loaf of bread in the oven, these Dutch ovens are designed to deliver reliable performance and delicious results.

User questions & answers

Question: Where are these made
Answer: Yes
Question: Can you use these on a electric range top
Answer: Not at all. I’ve used mine several times already and as long as you take care of the ceramic coating, they shouldn’t need seasoned at all. Ever.
Question: Can you use on flat top electro range
Answer: Yes the tray is removable. It's well made and we use it quite a lot. The whole thing disassembles for washing. I would recommend it. The cups have some kind of teffon coating that makes it easy to transfer eggs to the plate.
Question: Do you need to season these before use
Answer: The egg cups are metal with non-stick coating. They have little plastic knobs on the top so you can pick them up and slip the eggs into your egg cup. The pan is quite heavy duty and also appears to be non-stick. I was going to use it to cook other things but have not as yet done it.

  • Durable porcelain-enameled cast iron finishes are striking, easy to clean, and long lasting
  • Cast stainless steel knob is extremely durable and oven-safe

  • Tramontina Gourmet Collection

Use and Care:

  • After removing your cookware from the packaging, discard the plastic clips.
  • Hand-wash the cookware with warm soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Although the enamel coating on your cookware does not require seasoning, we recommend seasoning the vessel rim and lid rim where the cast iron is exposed. Season by lightly rubbing cooking oil onto surface. Heat cookware in oven for one hour at 350°F / 176°C. Cookware is ready to use once cool.
  • Avoid knocking utensils on the cookware or cutting food directly within the cookware, as this may permanently damage the enamel surface.
  • We recommend using silicone, nylon, bamboo or wood utensils. Using metal utensils or sharp objects on any surface may damage the cooking surface over time.
  • The enamel surfaces are not suitable for dry cooking. Add a liquid, butter or oil to the bottom of the cookware prior to heating.
  • A gradual low-to-medium heat setting yields the most even and best results for most cooking tasks, including frying and searing, and the use of high heat is not necessary. Once the cookware is hot, nearly all cooking tasks can be completed with lower heat settings, making the use of high heat unnecessary. In fact, use of high heat can permanently discolor and damage the cookware.
  • When using cookware on ceramic glass stovetops, always lift (do not slide) to move to avoid scratching the cooktop.
  • Keep cookware on burner only during necessary time for cooking or boiling. Do not overheat empty cookware or allow gas flames to extend up sides of cookware and overheat handles.
  • The cookware is oven-safe at temperatures up to 450°F / 232°C. Even though integral handles and the lid knob are oven-safe, they will get hot in the oven and on the stovetop, particularly gas stoves where an open flame is used. Therefore, use protective mitts when handling hot cookware.

User questions & answers

Question: Are the handles solid stainless steel or hollow
Answer: Referring to "Tramontina 80116/024DS Gourmet Stainless Steel Induction-Ready Tri-Ply Clad Covered Sauce Pan, 4-Quart, NSF-Certified, Made in Brazil": If the first two digits of the second set of numbers of the model number is "02" (i.e., "02" in 80116/024DS), then it is made in Brazil. If the first two digits of the second set of numbers of the model number is "55" (i.e., "55" in 80116/554DS), then it is made in China. This information is from the Tramontina customer service department (I had the same question and wrote to them). I just received the 2-quart version from Walmart with the model number 80116/562DS; the box and pan both say this item was also made in China, but I don't yet know what the distinction is between the "55" (made in China) and the "56" (also made in China)... I again wrote to customer service but haven't heard back yet. Incidentally, the third digit of the second set of numbers in the model number (i.e., "4" in 80116/024DS) appears to refer to the size of the pan: 1 = 1.5-quart, 2 = 2-quart, 3 = 3-quart, and 4 = 4-quart. Hope this helps.
Question: What is the actual size of Tramontina Tri-Ply Clad 5 Qt Dutch Oven
Answer: Although stainless steel cookware is not "nonstick", there are some things that may help lessen the "sticking" of your food to your pans when cooking. 1. Take your food out of the refrigerator and allow it to thaw before cooking.(Cold food has a tendency to stick more than food at room temperature.) 2. Always preheat your pan on low to medium for about 2 minutes before you start to cook. 3. Add oil or butter to the cookware and allow it to heat up. 4. Place your food in the pan and let it cook all the way on one side before you turn it. If you try to turn it too soon it will almost always stick. 5. Never put your pan on high or med high unless you have a pan full of cold liquid. The cool liquid will pull the heat from the pan and keep the metal in the pan cooler. 6. Turn the heat down to med low or low once you add your food to the pan. Your pan has an aluminum core that will retain the heat, so if you keep it too high your food may burn or stick. CLEANING: For hard-to-clean, stuck-on foods, soak cookware in hot, soapy water prior to washing. Hopefully, these tips will help you, when cooking with stainless steel.
Question: Is this pan indeed made in Brazil? I see many pans like this made in China
Answer: Yes
Question: Does anyone have information regarding "how to cure" this pan to avoid food sticking
Answer: The pot itself is 5 3/8" deep and the lis is 1 1/4" deep.

Answer: It might have been at one point, but the model shown here now (Oct '14) is probably not the same one tested by ATK simply because the one tested has the wide base, according to the test article in the magazine, that one has large base (around 10") and short sides. This one, according to the answers provided to the question, "What is the diameter of the base of the 12" pan?" from 2013, are around 8"-ish. This one also has sides that are too high. I have the article and the one shown here looks totally different, if you look at the sides and the area of the base. I didn't buy the one listed here but like others, I want to buy the one tested by ATK, but after thorough searching I haven't been able to find it. At one point Walmart carried the exact model but no more. That's probably the case at Amazon. I just want to clarify this so people don't get a pan with a small base and be disappointed. Now, I know the other buyers might really like this pan and don't care about the size of the cooking area but I know I need a pan with the large enough base to accommodate the amount of food specified in a recipe (and besides 8" or 8.5" is too small for a 12" pan) and if I get this because of the wrong info given out, I would be really angry and don't forget the hassle of shipping it back or keeping it and hating it.
Question: Is the base 12 inches or the lip
Answer: Linda, the constrution of the pans is identical, and food will cook the same in them. On the Prima pan, however, which is the one I purchased, there is an edge around the pan's edge intended to make it easier to pour liquids from the pan. It works okay, and since the prices are similar I'd go for it. By the way, as for the pan itself, this skillet has literally changed the way I cook. Its heat-retaining core is efficient and heats and cooks evenly. The size of the 12" skillet will allow you to add a full pound of pasta to your sauteed ingredients with pasta water to finish your dish. It browns food better than any pan I've ever had, and I find myself looking for excuses to use it instead of my very expensive (and nice, but just not the same) saute pan. If you're a serious cook, you need this, and there's no reason to spend more for All-Clad or any other pricey brand. Finally, this pan is beautiful, and cleans up easily with a squirt of liquid Barkeeper's Friend Liquid Cleaner along with your dishwashing foam or liquid after a short soak.
Question: is this the pan that America's test kitchen reviewed
Answer: Great question the Dimensions of the pot. (L x W x H) 15.25 x 4.50 x 13.25 Inches I hope this answered your question.
