Question:	Can this tea maker boil hot water like an electric kettle? (Without brewing tea
Answer:	I haven't used it for water only, but...the directions say that it does. You can custom set to heat to 212 degree (which is the temp. fo boiled water) with a max. 10 minute brew time. I suspect that would definately boil the water for you. You just need to select that option. It will keep it hot for you also, for up to 4 hours I think (I do not currently have the directions in front of me). It is like that for the tea anyway. You will not regret purchasing this. I it is one of the best purchases I have made in a long time.
Question:	Does the type of water you use (tap vs. filtered) seem to impact the life of the product
Answer:	It doesn't, special cleaning powder descales and removes tannic buildup. however, tea tastes better with filtered water.
Question:	As of March 2014, I do not see replacement carafes on the Breville site. If the glass breaks, where can I find a new carafe
Answer:	They do not replace the carafe or "jug" as it is referred to on the website. However, having just spoken to Breville customer support in the U.S. they will offer a discount on the purchase of a new tea maker. I was offered 40% off the price ($149 for a $249 product). This is essentially what I expected to pay for the replacement carafe as the base is a $95 part by itself so I am happy to be getting a new one for that price more than four years after getting my first one. Until my daughter dropped mine, it was working amazingly well.
Question:	Are the plastic components BPA free? Why do you have plastic components
Answer:	I contacted Breville about over two years ago about the plastic used to make their products and the Breville BTM800XL in particular. According to them, the plastic which touches the water is BPA-free plastic. After doing some research on BPA-free plastic, I found that the manufacturer of this plastic will not reveal anything about the plastic except that it is BPA-free. They refuse to disclose the materials which go into making it and they refuse to discuss whether there may be any toxins in it. They will not assure us that there are no other toxins in the plastic beyond the lack of BPA. I called Breville once again and they just kept telling me that it is BPA-free but seemed unconcerned about the fact that the manufacturer of the plastic refuses to disclose any details about the content of the plastic. Breville very quickly became rude even though I asked my questions in a respectful manner. They wanted no more discussion of it. I was very disappointed in their lack of concern in this matter. The Breville BTM800XL is a great concept in electric tea makers. It's all stainless steel and glass (safe materials) except for the plastic on the tea leaf basket which rides up and down inside the boiling water. Couldn't they have put in a little extra effort to use stainless steel or titanium instead of a mystery plastic so that no one would have an objection to this tea maker?

Question:	I received my tea maker today and the indicator light won't turn on, but the base gets hot, anyone else have this issue
Answer:	It probably works. The light on mine does work, but it's gotta be in a dark corner for me to see it on. In any case, unplug it after it's done working, after 10-12 minutes or so. To better steep tea in this device, bend two jumbo paper clips so they lie flat in the tea bucket but stick down through the little hole 1/2 inch or so. This enables hot water to back up in the tea bucket, and tea bags actually steep. Otherwise, the hole is too large so the hot water runs out quickly, wetting the tea bags but not really steeping them. With this "hack", she's a great tea-maker that takes up minimal counter space.

Answer:	Mine works, but once in awhile it's already on when I plug it in, so I just let it do what it needs and then it turns back off and when I turn it on again it works fine.

Answer:	For loose tea try 4tbsp for a whole pitcher. 2tbsp per quart. A whole pitcher is 2 quarts.

Answer:	Our brewer can be used for coffee as long as we are aware of the following: 1) Please use filter paper or filter bags to hold the coffee grinds to avoid them overflowing into the pot and cause blockage and malfunction. 2) The pot will smell of coffee and the flavors may mix with the tea afterwards. It will take extra cleaning with special agents to get rid of the coffee smell.

Answer:	Hopefully, this might help you. You are correct, cross bar is part of the frame that the top is attached to. I have no idea what the c-clamp you are referring to looks like. What I can tell you is that the cross bar is located 2.5" from the edge of the top. I presume the manufacturer placed the cross bar away from the edge so clamps could be mounted but not sure if the clamp you are referring to would fit on the 2.5"? As a side note, I really like my desk. Has tons of room on the top and is very sturdy! Good luck!

Answer:	I ordered a 49mm tamper as this was posted as such, but it is in fact 51mm. The 49mm works fine since this machine is pressurized and doesn’t need much tamping to begin with.
