User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have a see-through tube on the outside to see the level of the water |
Answer: | 1 max loaded teaspoon per cup + 1 teaspoon for the pot. Now you have to define the volume of your "cup.". Some coffee lots state 6 oz is a " cup. ". This is dinky. My volume "cup" is a good size mug, about 10-12 oz.I I also wad up a piece of aluminum foil and jam it into the pouring spout ( I have an 8 and 12 cup stove top percolator: Farberware Yosemite). I use enough aluminum foil to have a "handle" I can grab to remove before pouring. What is the purpose for my aluminum foil spout plug? It greatly reduces vapor loss during percolating. You may START with 3-4 mugs of water, but if you forget about the coffee pot, you will quickly boil off a mug of water and change the flavor/strength. Set a simple timer for 6-8 minutes of percolation time, or about 16-18 total minutes from the time you apply heat. For coffee? I like Maxwell House Columbian. Tried many other brands, and "high end" designer / coffee snob beans. I keep coming back to Maxwell House Columbian. I have stopped searching for coffee. |
Question: | How long is the cord |
Answer: | We live on our yacht. I brew a full pot about every three days. I replace what is served with hot, boiling water directly into the basket to extend the grounds as I start with a full basket of an extra dark, gourmet blend. I leave the basket in with the grounds as when the brew has cooled and one desires a cup of coffee, we heat in the microwave. Also, if you add a scant amount of salt to the fresh grounds before you brew a pot of coffee, the brew does not turn acidic, an old restaurant trick! I love our percolator! |
Question: | Can you see the coffee jumping up and down in the top |
Answer: | I just bought this to replace my electric percolator. I saw that many people had answered this question positively. I checked the Yosemite bottom with a magnet and the magnet did not stick but never-the-less it still worked on my Duxtop Induction cooktop. The manufacturer says the bottom was 18/0 stainless which is suitable for induction which is, I'm sure, why it works. I tested it against my regular glass top electric range top the water boiled about twice as fast on the induction cooktop. My method ended up being to set the induction cooktop to high until the water boils then turn down the power to 2 (500W, 180 degrees F) and let perc for 6-7 mins. Worked like a charm. |
Question: | Does it come with a filter basket |
Answer: | Do NOT be fooled. You still need to use a Paper coffee filters in this basket. There is a certain type of Unhealthy oil material that comes off of All coffee..Only the coffee filter can catch it.If you notice with this is sold separate, Melitta 628354 Disc Coffeemaker Filters - Pack of 2 (200 Filters total)by Melitta ...Btw Dr. Oz talks about the need for coffee filters all the time even if your coffee pot comes with the mesh, or percolator , for a good reason. |

Serve Coffee with modern style and practical features with this West Bend 58002 42 Cup aluminum Coffee Urn. This urn features a two-way dripless spigot and a twist-to-secure lid with stay-cool handles and base for safety while operating. Interior water level marks and a bright indicator light ensure you know how much coffee you have and when it is ready to be served. This urn brews quickly at less than one minute per cup and is rated for light-duty, non-commercial use only.Product Dimensions: 9.69 L X 10.08 W X 17.32 H Inches.
Instructions:
Never make less than the minimum or more than the maximum amount of coffee for your coffee urn.
Do not use soft water, as flooding of the basket may occur.
Use regular electric perk grind coffee or coffee ground for all coffeemakers for best results. Do not use drip or finely ground coffee as flooding of the coffee basket can occur. If grinding your own coffee beans, grind to medium coarseness for best results. Do not grind coffee too finely, powder-like, as this can cause the coffee basket to flood.
Do not use paper filters in your basket. If you find that grounds are falling through, wet the basket before adding coffee grounds.
Remove coffee basket with grounds as soon as the brewing cycle is completed. This also helps maintain the coffee flavor. Use the coffee maker cover as a carrying tray when disposing of wet grounds.
If dripping occurs between the faucet and the coffeemaker body, tighten the nut inside the coffeemaker. If the dripping occurs from the faucet spout, tighten the faucet cap. Do not over tighten. If the faucet continues to drip or is damaged, contact customer service; see information on warranty page.
Liquid must always cover the inside bottom of the appliance at all times. Falling below the minimum level could cause overheating and damage to internal components and will void the warranty.
A small amount of smoke or odor may occur upon heating due to the release of manufacturing oils – this is normal.
Some minor expansion or contraction sounds may occur during heating and cooling – this is normal.
Do not allow ground coffee to fall into the stem.
If more coffee is immediately desired, partially fill the coffeemaker with cold water to reset the thermostat. Empty the water out of the coffeemaker and proceed to make coffee as normal.
Every organization needs at least one of these large-capacity coffeemakers for group meetings. Attractive enough for a corporate ballroom, handy as all get-out for those family reunions, this model by West Bend features a highly polished aluminum case with black trim, an aluminum interior, a two-way dripless faucet, a cool-tip filter basket (no paper filter needed), and a detachable two-foot cord for easy storage. Best of all, the coffeemaker brews 12 to 42 cups quickly, up to one cup per minute. Or it can be used to heat water for tea and instant drinks. The coffeemaker stands 17 inches high and is covered with a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

User questions & answers
Question: | My ceramic tub seems to jostle around and move a decent amount when placed in the warmer. Is that normal |
Answer: | Hi, this is VitaClay, the manufacturer. Our clay pots do not retain flavors or odors after cooking, and we regularly make lots of different things in the same clay pot, including strong meals like lamb stew, followed by yogurt or white rice (after washing, of course), and there is absolutely no flavor transfer. Our high-temperature water-glazing process, using only water and 2500+ degree heat, seals the clay against any type of food/flavor/scent transfer, and also strengthens the clay a great deal to prevent breakage. |
Question: | where is it made |
Answer: | Well mine has a hairline crack too. I added more tap water to an already hot pot and it cracked halfway across the bottom. Yes they have replacement pots, but you have to buy the lid too. The replacements only come in sets. Depending on how long you have had the pot will depend on the price. They will give a certain percentage off depending on how many months you had the pot before it got damaged. My quote was $20.00 pot + $20.00 shipping. They also want a picture of your cracked pot. If you are extremely careful with this pot it makes great food, but the clay is delicate. Mine sits in my closet still cracked :( I just use other healthy cookware on the stovetop for now. |
Question: | Does it brown food |
Answer: | This VitaClay has 3 temperature settings, Yogurt, Low and High. The yogurt setting maintains a temperature of about 110- 115 degrees. There is no way to make this machine maintain a specific temperature. Low is not much higher than the Yogurt setting and high is below boiling.Thank you for asking VeggieSensations. Question: | is this slow cooker insert lead free |
Answer: | I have a multi-cooker (vm7900-6) and I've been using it about 7-8 years. I love it. Everything tastes better when make it in this thing, and everything is easy to make. You can make anything in here: yogurt, stew, soup, broth, rice, quinoa, steel cut oats, steam anything, heat anything up.... pretty much all-inclusive except for baking. The thing I like about the multi-cooker (oval model) is that it's got the yogurt maker, and yogurt made in clay is really like no other yogurt, plus you can make it for pennies on the dollar rather than buying it in the store. I also like the delay timer on it, when i cook steel cut oats I set it to start cooking about an hour before I wake up and it's hot and ready when I wake up! Otherwise you have to wait like an hour for those things to be fully cooked. I also like the "reheat" feature, which I don't think the other one has. Just pop in some soup or something you want to steam, press "reheat," and it's ready 5-10 minutes later. I don't use a microwave so this feature is handy for me. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How much coffee for 45 cups |
Answer: | Sorry for 1st answer about my checking Monday on size. I found two other answers I'd provided. As I remembered, it doesn't use filters. When I closed your "check Monday" answer, there were these two answers confirming what I remembered. NO FILTERS NEEDED. Coffee right in basket and it's easy to clean after use. |
Question: | Why are two different coff urns being shown? I see one with a metal base and other images with a black plastic stand |
Answer: | I brew starbucks and dunkin donuts coffees in it after I grind them without a problem. Had to adjust the amount used, first pot could walk on its own. |
Question: | does a 12 oz coffee foam cup fit underneath the spigot |
Answer: | I have done catering events where you either have a personal hot drink dispenser already full. Or you show up prior to the event/guest arrival and start the coffee there in the urn as long long as you can plug it in. Depending on the amount of people this may not make enough coffee if you can't plug it in. |
Question: | How long does it take to brew 55 cups |
Answer: | This Hamilton Beach coffee maker does not normally use a filter. It is a percolator, not a drip machine, and the metal basket into which the coffee grounds are put serves as the filter as the hot water comes up through the center tube and percs out over the grounds, dripping back into the water supply, gradually attaining the flavor you are looking for as it leaches through the fresh grounds. I have heard of paper filters being modified to use in coffee makers such as this, but personally, I think it is a waste of time, energy and resources to do so. Incidentally, this HB unit is an outstanding, durable, long-life unit which also works well for heating water for tea, hot chocolate, or instant coffee, as well as being a great unit for heating apple cider during the hot cider season. (Don't forget to drop a couple of fresh cloves cloves into your pot of cider for a delightfully delicious and aromatic holiday time beverage. |

User questions & answers
Question: | This slow cooker seems very good but Id really like one that has a delayed start. I'm getting conflicting answers when reading these |
Answer: | Both High and Low stabilize at the same temperature (209°F); it is just a matter of how long it takes to reach the simmer point. On High, it takes approximately 3-4 hours, whereas on Low, it takes approximately 7-8 hours to reach the simmer point. On the warm setting, your Crock-Pot® slow cooker will be between 165° and 175° Fahrenheit. Please remember that these are all approximate temperatures and they can vary depending on what you are cooking. The Crock-Pot® slow cooker can also boil on high and low. We recommend that you always fill your slow cooker at least ½ and no more than ¾ of the way full, including at least one cup of liquid or sauce. You may have to adjust your cook times accordingly, especially if you are using older Crock-Pot® slow cooker recipes, or adapting regular recipes for Crock-Pot® slow cooker use. Thank you. |
Question: | Can the interior pan be removed for easier cleaning, or for serving |
Answer: | No, you cannot program the slow cooker to turn off automatically after the cooking time. Thank you. |
Question: | does that have a delay start feature |
Answer: | No, this slow cooker doesn't have a retractable cord. Thank you. |
Question: | Does the hole for the probe in this crockpot really not cause any problems while cooking? I was always under the impression any leaks/holes are bad |
Answer: | No, this slow cooker cannot be programmed to start when you are not home. Thank you. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does this coffee urn require coffee filters |
Answer: | It’s manual just remove the top cover and pour the water in it. |
Question: | Can we make tea |
Answer: | I wasn't aware it had a keep warm function. I'd check it, but it's at my church kitchen. But I've never seen a button or anything that said "keep warm". |
Question: | Is it normal to have some drippage from the top of the Urn when brewing |
Answer: | It definitely has a problem in its heating regulator. It will not keep coffee hot like it should. Only six months old! We are replacing it with a different unit because this one is getting thrown out. |
Question: | What's the tallest cup you can put under the spout without having to tilt it |
Answer: | Global standard is 5-6oz per cup of coffee, only the us thinks its 8 oz, so it's likely a 150 oz carafe |
