I have seen reports of the thermo Block of the 860 leaking, But the new 870 uses a ThermoCoil, it is a Full length of Stainless Steel tubing (the water only comes in contact with the stainless steel) that coils around a few times nothing is Bolted together as the tubing is one continuous length to eliminate Leaks, and is surrounded by Aluminum, this alum houses the heater and makes for Fast heating up, for steaming and cooling down to 200 degrees for pulling the shot, so temps are more precise than before. This New ThermoCoil is a big Improvement over the 860 model. I saw a cut away version of both the 860 thermo block and the 870 thermoCoil the 870 is a much better design and should last a long time, as long as you don't run it out of water and burn it up. Answer:	No it does not have auto shutoff. You cannot tell from the box or the manual (since the manual is generic and covers a large number of models). I called the manufacturer. They said if you cannot see a clock on the front of the coffee maker, then it won't have an auto shutoff. I sent it back since I know I will often forget to shut it off.

It is not necessary to turn off the machine, but I personally do. This one of the best espresso machines that I have tried. My family uses it 2-4 times a day. It works perfect every time.

Question:	Do I have a defective machine? The latch that is attached to the filter basket makes it impossible to completely lock the filter in place
Answer:	I had a similar problem and was about to resolve it. The portafilter has a very tight locking mechanism to the main unit. This is so no water leaks during brewing. When rotating the filter to lock it in place you do not need to rotate it all the way (90 degrees). You only need to rotate it enough to seal it in place. Make sure it's relatively tight so water doesn't leak.
Question:	can i use pods for these? Or i have to use the beans or the grated one
Answer:	My understanding is that pods can be used, but I'm old school (and cheap!) so I use ground beans and a tamper.

Answer:	It comes with plastic tamper but I'd recommend buying a stainless steel one. Also it does not come with frothing pitcher so you'll have to buy one.

Essentially the French cafe au lait and the Italian caffè latte is 1/3 espresso to 2/3 steamed milk, or a three ounce double serving espresso to five ounces of steamed milk.There can be a slight learning curve when it comes to frothing the milk. Make sure you are using a fresh and cold skim or 2% milk. Bleed your frothing tube line before lowering it into your frothing pitcher. Water will dilute the milk if line hasn't been bled.

Answer:	Technically it only produces coffee and steam. Espresso requires greater pressure (9-15 bar vs. this machine's 3 bars). The milk frother likely works on a steam system, but again, the drinks listed are ESPRESSO based so while yes it makes coffee, it does NOT make espresso or variation thereupon. hope this helps :)

Answer:	I’m a Barista. The trick to extra foam is to airate the milk for longer. You should start with your want touching the bottom of the cup of milk, start the steam. Bring the wand to the top of the cup to where only the tip is in the milk. It will be fluffing up the surface of the milk. For lattes, you should do it for 3-5 seconds. For cappuccino... 6-8 seconds. This is how I do it at home and at work.
Question:	what size of tamper do you need
Answer:	49mm is the correct answer although 50mm is not that much bigger. I've had this machine for years and made my own tamper (I'm a metal guy) and I made mine a slightly irregular 1-7/8" which is around 49mm. FYI 1"=25.4mm...the conversion is not nearly as hard as people think, but understanding fractions and decimal equivalents to fractions helps. The rest of the world went to metric to make it simple so they wouldn't have to tax their minds with complicated stuff like that! American craftsman can calculate it all!..We're just too expensive so once we figure it out we use Chinese slave labor for the actual work!You dont need a tamper to fit exactly. If you only want a small amount of grounds you need a tamper to go close to the bottom which is narrower than the top. I almost NEVER fill mine totally full...especially for one cup.Also, the suggestion of "using a vitamin bottle" is useless as far as dimensions are concerned, but that person is correct that you can use any flat object to tamp with. I just now, as an example, grabbed a prescription pill vial of my wife's...and guess what...it measures 1-7/8" exactly on the bottom!You dont have to spend anything if you are creative and observant. But some people just like that cool looking tamper...an empty pill vial just wont go with the kitchen style!

Answer:	I’m pretty sure it is only designed to make espresso, cappuccino and lattes. I guess you could try to use regular coffee in there instead of espresso grounds. I also like to use the manual button at the top right. You can push this and it will dispense more coffee. Then push it again and it stops.

Answer:	No it is not normal. Our church has several urns. 3 are 100 cup another is 55 (another brand) None of those drip from the top of the urn when brewing. It has nothing to do with the amount of water or the lid too tight. Actually the lid on the one we purchased was the same as to it's fit. Something is wrong with the construction of this brand and it's too bad. West Bend has always been so reliable in the past.

Answer:	It's amazing to me to see comments on anything but what is exactly described within this link for the DCC-3200P1. No, this isn't the DCC-3400. Yes, it has a glass carafe. The description says so in three places. Nowhere does the description mention a stainless carafe - NOWHERE. The photos show glass (I agree two of them have what looks to be coffee brewed, but at least one photo clearly shows an empty GLASS carafe.

Answer:	Yes you can pour a cup of coffee before it is totally finished brewing. It does not drip. Once you return carafe it just finishes filling. There is no problem with a drip. Per the instructions. It tells you it is ok to do and it works perfectly

Answer:	Taste: Coffee in the 3200 is more flavorful. A new machine might be expected to be better, but I think they've gotten the flow and temperature of the brewing process better.Temperature: The brewed coffee is much hotter. Both units have three temperature settings for the hot plate, but the settings on the 3200 are hotter.Size and Capacity. The 3200 handles 14 cups compared to the 1200's 12 cups. Yet as you can see from the photos, they are the same height to fit on a counter. They seem to get the extra capacity by making the 3200 a little deeper from front to back. We've been surprised at how useful the extra capacity is.Carafe: The new glass carafe is just like the old one, only larger. It pours nicely with or without the lid on it. The new lid works the same as the old one, popping off and on. (I read some complaints about the lid on an intervening model with a spring opening, but if so, they fixed that by going back to the 1200 style).As far as I can tell, there isn't a version of the 3200 designed for a thermal carafe like there is for the 12-cup models. I prefer the glass carafe because it keeps the coffee hotter longer, and I can always pour the coffee into a thermal carafe if I want to.Water Filling. The bigger size also increases the size of the water fill hole. The lid on the top of the 3200 unit raises to 90 degrees straight up, where the lid on the 1200 tilted further back and out of the way. Still the 3200 is easier to fill, and I suspect that the restriction on the tilt may help preserve the integrity of the hot water tube.Sneak a Cup. Taking out the carafe to sneak a cup during brewing worked great on the 1200 with little dripping, and still does on the 3200.Basket. The basket on the 3200 is very similar to the 1200, but a slightly different shape to accommodate more grounds for 14 cups. Actually, grounds just barely fit with a 4 cup paper filter in the new basket, and sometimes go above the filter in the basket. The basket actually seems more designed for the included gold filter.Water filter. The 3200 uses the exact same carbon filters and filter holder as the 1200, but the holder seems to fit more snugly in its hole, which may help prevent clogging (see below)Beep. The 3200 allows you to turn of the coffee-ready beep if you want.Controls. Controls on the 3200 are a little easier. The 3200 uses all push buttons with no switches. Separate hour and minute settings make it a little easier to program and set the clock. There is a new "Bold" setting which does indeed seem to result in stronger coffee. There is still a setting for smaller, 1-4 cup pots, but I never use that. You can still set the hot plate to stay hot for up to 4 hours, which is important to me. There is a fairly bright blue glow from the LED display on the 3200.Cleaning. There was a sensor button on the hot plate of the 1200 that's gone on the 3200, so the plate stays cleaner. The extra stainless steel looks good on the 3200 but probably shows smudges more and might benefit from special cleaner fluids.Coffee Grounds Overflowing and Clogging. This was the biggest problem before, and I don't know if it's fixed, but it seems better. On the 1200, if you put too many coffee grounds in the filter it could overflow in the brewing process, and sometimes grounds would get into the water system and clog the tube. The 1200 was designed not to be repairable, but customers tried anyway with some difficulty. After one successful repair, we eventually had to replace the 1200. So far, we have not had any overflow issues with the 3200. The larger basket (with possibly a bigger drip opening), the deeper reservoir and longer case, and the more stable, non-tilting lid may help with this, but we will see how it works over time. I do notice that they made the bottom panel easier to remove, with regular screws instead of Torx, if it ever comes to that. My one tip for users is to always use the filter holder with a filter in it, even if your water is fine, because that should help prevent grounds from getting into the heating system.In all, the 3200 is an excellent replacement for the 1200, and worth the extra money if you are choosing between the two models new.
