3 best plus grinders

A plus grinder, often referred to as a manual coffee grinder, is a device used to grind coffee beans into a consistent, fine powder suitable for brewing coffee. These grinders are popular among coffee enthusiasts for their ability to provide a more precise and customizable grind compared to electric grinders. Here are some key points related to plus grinders:

Manual Coffee Grinders (Plus Grinders):

  1. Hand-Powered Operation: Manual coffee grinders require physical effort to grind coffee beans. Users operate a hand crank, rotating blades or burrs to crush the beans into the desired consistency. This manual process allows for better control over the grind size.

  2. Adjustable Grind Size: Plus grinders typically offer adjustable grind settings, allowing users to select the coarseness or fineness of the coffee grounds. Different brewing methods, such as French press, pour-over, espresso, or AeroPress, require specific grind sizes for optimal flavor extraction.

  3. Portability: Manual coffee grinders are often compact and portable, making them ideal for travelers, campers, or individuals who appreciate freshly ground coffee on the go.

  4. Consistency: Quality plus grinders use burr grinding mechanisms that provide a consistent grind size, which is crucial for brewing high-quality coffee. Unlike blade grinders, burr grinders crush the beans between two abrasive surfaces, ensuring uniformity in the grind.

  5. Material: Manual coffee grinders are commonly made from materials such as stainless steel, ceramic, or high-quality plastic.Ceramic burrs are preferred by many enthusiasts due to their durability and resistance to heat, which can affect the coffee's flavor.

  6. Easy to Clean: Plus grinders are relatively easy to clean and maintain. They can be disassembled, allowing users to remove coffee residues and oils that might affect the flavor of future grinds.

  7. Customizability: Enthusiasts appreciate manual grinders for their ability to fine-tune the grind size according to personal taste preferences and the specific coffee beans being used.

  8. Budget-Friendly: Manual coffee grinders are often more affordable than high-end electric grinders, making them accessible to a wide range of coffee lovers.

How to Use a Manual Coffee Grinder (Plus Grinder):

  1. Adjust Grind Size: Set the grinder to the desired coarseness or fineness level based on your brewing method.

  2. Add Coffee Beans: Pour the desired amount of coffee beans into the grinder's hopper. Most grinders have markers indicating the maximum capacity.

  3. Grind: Hold the grinder steady and rotate the hand crank clockwise to grind the beans. Keep grinding until you achieve the desired amount of coffee grounds.

  4. Collect Grounds: Open the bottom compartment of the grinder to collect the freshly ground coffee.

  5. Brew: Use the grounds immediately to brew your favorite coffee using methods like pour-over, French press, or espresso.

In summary, plus grinders, or manual coffee grinders, offer coffee enthusiasts a hands-on and customizable coffee grinding experience. With adjustable grind sizes, portability, and consistent results, they are favored by those who appreciate the art and science of brewing a perfect cup of coffee.

User questions & answers

Question: I wondr why one review says "no mess" and another says "messy no matter how careful I am." Can you clarify
Answer: I've had a number of burr grinders over the past 15 years. I have one of Capresso's older grinders at home. The 570.01 is in use at my office and it is by far the least messy, most efficient and quietest I've ever had. Highly recommended.
Question: Des it have an on switch that stays on until it completes grinding or do you have to hold it down
Answer: You don't have to hold it down. It stays on. You set a circular switch to a number—5, 6, 7, 8, o whatever— and it automatically grinds until it reaches the 0. Depending on the amount of beans, if there are still unground beans, you can set it to 1 again.
Question: They say it can grind Turkish, is that true? The last model could barely grind espresso
Answer: My wife is from Albania. I bought this grinder for her to make Turkish coffee and espresso. It is marginal for a Turkish grinder. The issue is the consistency of the size of the grounds. On the very finest setting, many grounds are as fine as powder, however there is great variance. At the bottom of the cup you will get many much larger flakes. It tastes good, but does not look great. The finest grind is even marginal for espresso. On a $2300 Clive A56 I can pull a good shot with 18 grams of beans, 94C, 9 bars, 30 second infusion, 55g out. If I could, I would grind finer and try to boost the crema and get the output down to 44g, however, I am already at the finest setting. I have tried regrinding the powder for Turkish to reduce the variance in the size of the grounds. That helps, but at that point, it might be faster to use a manual grinder.
Question: Is this grinder quiet
Answer: Compared to other grinders, this one is very quiet.
