9 best conical burr grinders
Conical burr grinders are a game-changer when it comes to achieving the perfect grind for your coffee. Unlike blade grinders, which can create uneven particles, conical burr grinders use two cone-shaped burrs to crush the coffee beans to a consistent size. This results in a more uniform grind, which is crucial for extracting flavors evenly during the brewing process.
The key components of a conical burr grinder are the conical-shaped burrs themselves. One burr stays stationary, while the other rotates, creating a grinding action that's more precise than other methods. This design helps to minimize heat generated during the grinding process, preserving the flavors of the coffee beans.
Adjustability is another highlight of conical burr grinders. Most models allow you to choose the grind size by adjusting the distance between the burrs. This versatility is especially important for different brewing methods, from espresso to French press.
The slower grinding speed of conical burr grinders is a plus, as it reduces heat and friction, preventing the coffee from losing its aromatic oils and flavors. This is crucial for coffee enthusiasts who appreciate the nuanced taste profiles of different beans.
Maintenance is relatively straightforward. Regular cleaning is essential to prevent the buildup of oils and coffee residue, which can affect the taste of your brew. Many conical burr grinders come with removable parts for easy cleaning.
In summary, if you're serious about your coffee, a conical burr grinder is a wise investment. It provides consistent grinds, offers adjustability for various brewing methods, and preserves the flavor integrity of your coffee beans.

Question: | How loud is this grinder |
Answer: | It is almost square. Its hard soap but you might be able to cut it with a knife and a hammer. It might not come out perfect but that does not affect its functionality. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hello. i am looking for the owner's manual for this coffee grinder. can anyone share |
Answer: | I've been using it with my Aeropress and a drip machine at work. Works great with the Aeropress, you can fine tune the heck out of the grind and it stays even, much more so than with a blade grinder. I paid for my grinder, but have been invited to Amazon Vine program and just recieved a french press to try out and just brewed my first batch using Nani's San Francisco blend beans with the OXO Brew on 13 (middle of coarse settings). I've been going keto with my diet, so heavy whiping cream and no sugar... tastes really good. I think if you plan on making good coffee, this is worth the investment. Wow, for a first shot at using a french press... that came out good. |
Question: | where is it made |
Answer: | We’ve had this grinder for a couple of years and do struggle with static cling around the hopper. We also have found this model so hard to clean that today it actually went in the trash - not because it quit grinding but between the clinging mess and the difficulty cleaning it, both of which cause lingering stray grounds all over the place we had just had enough. There’s got to be a better way. And by the way although I can’t compare the noise to any other models, I can say this one is loud enough to drive the dog and the toddlers from the room. |
Question: | Looking for a good Coarse Grinder for cold brew will this grinder produce a good coarse grind? Don’t want anything to fine |
Answer: | These other answers are ridiculous. I've had the grinder for 18 mos. Works great - but it's pretty loud. I'm not sure it's louder than other grinders, but these answers that say "pretty quiet" and "very quiet" are totally off base. Works great. Not "very or pretty" quiet |
Question: | What is the material of the bottom container the grounds fall into? Plastic develops a charge that causes grounds to jump out and make a mess |
Answer: | Yes. Amazon is overrun these days by fake reviews and it's only slightly better if they disclose they received a free product in exchange (as I do think a reviewer's time is worth something). I am now in the habit of going to a 3rd party, like Fakespot, to see if fake reviews are influencing overall rating of product. As of March 2019, Fakespot gave this product a "C" rating. I also like to read some of the middle grades to see what people like / hate about a product because most balanced reviews are going to have both positive and negative things to say. |

User questions & answers
Question: | May I know if the 220V version is available? If so, how do I order it |
Answer: | It is in pdf form about 8 inchs above these Q and A's on this page. |
Question: | Is it easy to clean, especially the grinding burr |
Answer: | Dunno where it’s made, I’d guess china. It grinds well, very even. But it makes a mess. The mesh point between the ground canister and the grinder isn’t snug enough and grounds go everywhere each time you take it out to put grounds into coffee maker. If I had a do-over I’d buy a more expensive model, hopefully one that was manufacturer more precisely. |
Question: | My grinder uses a timer to dispense just the right amount for my French Press. Seems like Baraza will be more irritating work. Is it? How does it go |
Answer: | The coursest setting is far too fine. I don't like it for pour-over and it would be awful for French press. I can't imagine it working well for cold brew. |
Question: | I'm having trouble grinding anything finer than around a 7 - if I put it on a 4-6 (for espresso), the beans just pop around - what am I doing wrong |
Answer: | I used to have this problem with another brand of grinder. I used a long narrow strip of Al foil stuck in the ground coffee container of the unit and the other end lying on a damp sponge or towel on the counter. This disperses the static electricity and largely eliminates the problem. YMMV |

User questions & answers
Question: | how long is the warranty |
Answer: | No only 110 |
Question: | Anyone have any tips in keeping a cleaner work area? This setup seems to leave grounds dropping down every time I remove the bin |
Answer: | It is not easy to clean properly. I have had for 6 months and it stopped grinding. I called customer support which is excellent and they sent me a link with a video on how to clean the discharge shoot which has a 90 degree bend in it. It was clogged and prevented the coffee from dispensing. Must be a common problem if they have a video to send out. You have to really wiggle the wire end of the cleaning brush at the right spot to get the port unclogged. I used my shop vac, angled allen wrenches (which they suggest) and pushing from top and bottom finally got it unclogged. Love it when it works. Ordered those cleaning tablets and will use every two weeks. Will also clean out the port every two weeks. I use Black Rifle coffee which is delicious and has high oil content in the beans. Went 6 months with out a problem. The port clogging should be covered in the owner manual imho. Again - customer service was excellent. |
Question: | Why do reviews seem to be disappearing ? it said there were 2% 1 star reviews...i clicked on the 2% line and it said none available. hmm |
Answer: | I measure the beans with a coffee scoop before putting them in the grinder. Works fine, but if you are used to a timer, it may take awhile to get it down. The knob on the side can be turned a lot or a little. If you are unsure, put less beans in than you think you will need. I don't like leaving beans in the grinder. I've been very happy with my grinder. I bought the Precisio after returning the Encore as I do all different coffee preparations. I think the "timing" mechanisms are the same on both. |
Question: | Can anyone tell me how tall this is? Thanks |
Answer: | We can easily get espresso grinds at #4 where we like it. We use Peet’s Espresso Forte, and the results have bee consistently excellent for many years. The grind on this machine matches the grind we used to get in-store. We were surprised by the accuracy of the calibration. A #3 grind pulls a bit too slow, while a #6 pulls a bit faster than we like. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the warranty and where would you send it if needed |
Answer: | I've never tried it for espresso, we use it strictly for Arabic(Turkish) coffee of which it grinds a beautifully consistent talcum powder consistency. Arabic (Turkish) coffee is the finest grind of coffee you can get, 100 microns or smaller, compared to normal espresso which is about 300 microns, so I believe this machine can easily grind a very good espresso as it is able to go 3 times finer if need be.We also thought we were going to have spend hundreds of dollars to get a fine enough grind for Arabic coffee and even then some of the $300 - $400 ones had complaints about not being small or consistent enough, but we are very happy with the fineness and consistency of this one. I hope this helps you decide. |
Question: | What are the dimensions of the grinder |
Answer: | Unless you're making fairly weak coffee, three 10oz cups will use about half a hopper's worth of beans. I use 50g of beans in a full 32oz press, and that's roughly 10 tbsp of beans or nearly half a hopper. In that respect, it's really not worth your while to fill the hopper to full on every second brew and rely on the timer for inconsistent results. It's better to do the initial work of finding a ratio of beans to water you like and then measuring out your beans each time. It takes only a few seconds and you get much better results. |
Question: | How large is the grinding receptacle? Can I brew a full 14 cup pot of coffee with a single grind |
Answer: | what happened here is that most likely it was put in upside down. Yes, it fits both ways. My wife did the same thing and you will not be able to jimmy it loose while this unit is assembled. You will need to take the outer casing off. First remove the ground coffee container, then turn the unit upside down. No screws here, just look for the five notches between the main unit and the casing. Next, take a small flat head screwdriver and gently wedge between casing and main body and try to casing casing a little at a time and then move to the next notch. this can be a bit tricky as I used several screwdrivers wedged in at the same time to accomplish this. The casing just sort of snaps into place and these notches are what holds it together. Once the casing is off I found it easier to work the timer detached from the casing. This is not required but is just easier to see what you have to work with, to remover the time just unscrew the two screws holding it to the casing with a #10 star screwdriver. From this point it is possible to get grinder loose, however you may need some further dis assemble the grinder. I actually had to loosen the entire burr grind assembly to loosen it up enough to free the top portion. To do this take a #20 star screwdriver to the dead center screw holding in the lower burr grinder (LBG) and unscrew it. You should be able too get the TBG loose at this time although with a little effort. Warning, there are ten pieces under that LBG (3 springs, 3 brass pieces, 3 ball barrings, and a circular plastic piece). The brass pieces go into the holes in the circular plastic and will fit snugly, the plastic piece obviously will go onto the spindle, the springs go inside the brass pieces, and the ball bearings on top of the springs. Gently align the indentations on the bottom of the LBG with the ball bearings. Now screw in your #20 star screw into the LBG, the try twisting the LBG by hand. It should only turn as a motorized unit, that is you will hear the motor turning with it. If it turns freely with no resistance go back and try again. |
Question: | Are there any static electricity issues? Meaning, do the grounds make a mess when pulling out the container at the bottom |
Answer: | I've purchased both the metal and the plastic housing models. I bought the metal one first, thinking it would be more durable. The housing certainly is more durable, but in use I found the plastic model has outlasted the metal one. The plastic model is lighter, making it easier to handle. The plastic model is also considerably quieter than the metal one. The lettering on the metal model rubs off with use, simply from handling it (not a problem with the plastic housing). I was disappointed when my first grinder (metal) developed a problem with the grind settings after about 2 years of daily use. Seeing that it didn't last as long as expected, I replaced it with the less expensive plastic model. That was in August 2011, and more than 6 years later I'm still using it every day. All things considered, I recommend the plastic housing model. |
Question: | Does this grind fine enough for a Rancilio Silvia espresso machine? I had a $300 grinder that didn't |
Answer: | 1 yr |
Question: | I want to grind for a french press: coarse grind....for 3 cups of coffee @ 10 oz for each cup...what do I set the timer for?? Please help |
Answer: | I've abandoned the container bin grinding directly into the portafilter using a dosing funnel. There is zero mess. If you're not grinding for espresso, I suggest grinding directly into a shorter container the exact amount you need. The container bin is tight, so some residuals can spill from the head unit due to the jostling. |
Question: | Our Capresso Infinity Conical Burr Grinder is jammed. The top burr grinder (the circular piece, with three "spokes" on the outside, that drops into the main body) won't come out and the top coffee holder won't twist into the unit. We have tried to jimmy out the top grinder with a table knife, but to no avail. Any id |
Answer: | The 1 and 2 star ratings are all there. I just read them. 6/5/20 |
Question: | Should I buy the lighter weight black model or the heavier stainless steel model |
Answer: | 13.5 inches tall |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can it be used as a grain mill |
Answer: | DeLonghi stuff usually has a 1 year warranty. No telling where you'd have to send it, since they probably contract out warranty work in the states. |
Question: | Is it OK to put a small amount of coffee in the hopper (e.g., enough for one cup) and let the timer turn off after the hopper has been depleted |
Answer: | 14” high. 9” deep. 5” wide. |
Question: | I've heard this is not a conical burr. can anyone that is not this seller please tell me if it is actually conical or flat like the other cuisinart |
Answer: | While it would depend on how strong the finished product is and the quality of the beans to be ground, I would say yes, very easily. Since the grinding process is very quick, you could always grind more in a minute or two if you feel you don't have enough. Good Luck! |
Question: | is this a conical burr grinder |
Answer: | I have not yet had any issues with static electricity. It creates a lot less of a mess than other coffee grinders I have used. The cup is a bit tight to pull out from underneath the grinder though. Despite this I prefer this coffee make over the other comparable grinders I have used. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many lbs of beans can the canister hold |
Answer: | Probably, but you're far better off using a simple blade grinder such as the Krups. I have a fancy burr grinder that I use for drip, but for my AeroPress I use my Krups oval shaped electric blade grinder. It's under $20 and has been a workhorse for years. When doing my morning cup with my AeroPress (which I highly recommend) there is zero heat build up (see later) for the 17g - 19g that I grind, and zero mess. I grind, tip it over and give it a tap, that's it, no cleanup. Some grounds stick to the inside of the grinder, but I leave them there, no need to scrape them out as they don't interfere with the freshly ground coffee. The AeroPress works best with finely ground coffee so a blade grinder is ideal. If you're doing one cup at a time you don't need a burr grinder. Don't listen to anyone that says you do because it's a myth perpetrated all over the place, but completely baseless. There's hardly any heat generated in the ten seconds it takes to grind with a blade grinder. |
Question: | Will this grind grains and wheat...spices |
Answer: | There's some confusion here about burr types. This uses a "block" burr, which has some similarities to flat burrs but is vastly inferior. Flat burrs can theoretically be the most consistent, but in practice conical burrs can be just as good in quality grinders. Block burrs are cheap junk, barely better than blade grinders. |
Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | It’s a ceramic flat burr.As for espresso whine, gee, no these machines will not do for high end $$$ espresso machines, spent the $200 plus and stop being cheap, aka whining. This one is OK, just acceptable for my cheap espresso machine. The Bodum BISTRO Burr Grinder, Electronic Coffee Grinder does a better job for espresso in the under $100 range of this ilk, but still will not be up to the standards of whiners. It is odd it doesn’t do coarse ground well, the grid isn’t uniform. The Bodim is conical. |
