User questions & answers
Question: | I have since coffee grind on the outside glass stuck between the glass and bottom part: how to clean without breaking the glass |
Answer: | probably cant use paper alone, would slip into pot with weight combination of grounds and water. but dont use paper, just use the provided metal/plastic filter, otherwise youll take away all those tasty coffee oils. |
Question: | Last I checked, 4 cups is 32 oz. Why does it say this is an 8 cup (34 oz) coffee maker |
Answer: | It's a little strange and confusing, but coffee is measured in 4 oz cups instead of 8 oz cups. As the description states, this coffee maker holds 34 oz, which is 8.5 4-oz cups. Most coffee mugs are 10-16 oz, so most people will only get 2-3 "cups" of coffee out of one 34 oz pot. |
Question: | How is this model different from the standard bodum 12-oz press with the metal holder which is twice the price |
Answer: | Use COARSE grind, use more or less to taste (experiment is best)! >DO NOT use a paper filter, as this captures the essential oils that make the coffee more flavorful. Pour a small amount of water over the grounds to just wet. Wait 15-30 sec. -It will "puff up" the grounds, THEN pour the rest of the water slowly. Also it is important to use filtered water heated to (about) 177 degrees. (Boiled water will scorch giving you a bitter taste). |
Question: | Is it made by glass |
Answer: | The mesh is stainless but it does not do a good job of filtering the finer sediment. It also always the water to drain to quickly. |

Answer: | This coffee maker has an already integrated filter type and is permanent. |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | I purchased this a year ago. I can’t see the steps online. I know it came with a very small black plastic lid with an opening for pouring. |
Question: | Is there any plastic inside the pot |
Answer: | It doesn’t say. JUST to be safe I hand wash mine. |
Question: | does it come with the monkey? I think I might need the monkey |
Answer: | Yes. The supplied filter results In coffee grounds in coffee mug with the pore over. I use a paper filter that fits into mesh filter then remove the filter to pore. I have not noted a obvious change in taste in coffee in using the paper filter. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is this French Prench made in |
Answer: | Depends on what you consider a "cup" of coffee :-) It makes 4 eight ounce cups of coffee. The way most coffee drinkers get their morning jolt with a 12-16 ounce cup of coffee. This insulated French Press makes a great cup of coffee and keeps it hot. |
Question: | The product description says the carafe is made of glass but a lot of the customer reviews say plastic. Which is it |
Answer: | French press filters do not need replacing. They do need to do throughly cleaned to avoid coffee oils going rancid on the filter. |
Question: | Can the glass beaker be easily removed from the base? thank you |
Answer: | The product itself has the logo "Mueller" with AUSTRIA under the name. However the BOX says "MADE IN CHINA." Which makes me think that the "AUSTRIA" marking under the logo might just be part of the actual logo of the company, and NOT where the item is made. After all, the stamp on the product does not include the words "Made in" which might be why the confusion, whether intended or not. |
Question: | Already broken. I've only had this for 2 months and the plastic part that holds the filter together is broken. Can I send this back for a better one |
Answer: | Tyler F. is wrong about it being made in Austria, and Max is also very very very wrong. Just because something is made in China, does not mean it is from a Chinese company, or is a Chinese design. It is not "being sneaky" or deceptive. As another person has mentioned, a large portion of the crap that you own, such as an iPhone or other smartphone, was made in China or some other Asian country. It is designed in the U.S. and built elsewhere, since it's much cheaper to exploit the poor there than to build it in the U.S., where workers have rights and must be paid decently. This French press was most likely designed in Austria and sent to China for manufacture. It is much better quality than those that are obviously from a Chinese OWNED company. People just need to learn to not speak when they don't know what they're talking about. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have writing on the glass? Is it actually a Bodum original glass |
Answer: | The person that asked this question probably already got a lid replacement however, anyone else that has found themselves in the same situation, I was going to suggest that if you need a lid just go to Walmart and buy a whole new one for less than 10 bucks before tax -they also sell it on their online store for 3 dollars more. |
Question: | Will the 12oz glass replacement fit a Melior French |
Answer: | Mine doesn’t last long because I drink up too fast, but as long as you keep it refrigerated I’d say it’ll last a couple weeks or longer!! I have two pots so when one is finished I’m making another!! Add your favorite liquid creamer and you’ll never buy those high dollar over sweet cold coffees again!! |
Question: | What is the inside diameter (ID) measurement of the holder? Measurements for the beaker itself are moot, when you cannot measure a shattered beaker |
Answer: | No advantage, can use both for hot or cold press. I purchased this one because at the time the tan colored one was sale priced at $13 |
Question: | Can someone tell me why buying only a replacement beaker and screen costs just as much as buying a brand new coffee press? Where's the logic in that |
Answer: | Most people find you need to add more coffee grounds to cold brew than if making hot coffee. I usually use somewhere around 40oz of water and 1 cup of ground coffee to make it the proper strength. If you use the classic 1 table spoon per cup you will end up with a very weak product that is closer to tea than coffee. |

No other coffee maker has fascinated passionate coffee drinkers like the Pebo (former Santos). Its exceptionally effective vacuum brewing method extracts all precious oils of your favorite coffee. The vacuum brewing process is entirely sealed off so no aroma can escape. In addition, the brewing time and temperature are perfectly calibrated, ensuring a perfect cup of coffee with each brew. Monitor the eye-catching brewing process through the two firmly attached glass bowls! Depending on the amount of water used, the Pebo (former Santos) can brew delicious coffee within 5 to 11 minutes, serving anywhere from 4 to 8 cups (0. 5l/10 ounces, max. 1. 0l/34 ounces).
As beautiful as sculpture, as fascinating as chemistry, and as entertaining as theater, this coffeemaker from Switzerland converts the ordinary process of brewing coffee into an artful performance. And it makes six 5-ounce cups of full-flavored coffee while it entrances. The coffeemaker fits together like this: water goes into the carafe, a filter fits into the mouth of a tube in the top globe, ground coffee goes into the globe (a scoop is included), the globe fits atop the carafe with the tube extending into the carafe, and the carafe goes onto the stovetop with a trivet or heat diffuser between it and electric or gas heat. (This is all much simpler and quicker than it sounds.)
Water boils up through the tube into the globe and brews the coffee. When brewing is complete and the carafe has been taken off the stovetop and set into its accompanying sculpted trivet, the coffee drains through the filter into the carafe. The globe can then be lifted off the carafe and set on its stand, and coffee can be poured from the carafe, which has a stay-cool handle. A stopper for the carafe keeps second cups warm while the first cups are sipped. Fully assembled, the coffee maker stands 11-1/2 inches high. It's made of heat-resistant glass and durable, gleaming nylon, and all parts are dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

User questions & answers
Question: | Since there is no cover for the upper chamber, does this cause splashing of coffee out of the pot as it bubbles up |
Answer: | Yes, the replacement glass is made and labeled by Bodum. Way cheaper than a whole new press. This is probably the 4th replacement I have purchased for my French press purchased about 15 years ago. |
Question: | Why aren't replacment parts available |
Answer: | Hello and thanks for asking ... as my answer will save you a lot of grief and dollars. Even Bodum coffee presses are different sizes. I ordered this Beeker and it was too wide at the bottom to fit. The company, when contacted, told me that I had to pay the postage back PLUS a 25% restocking fee. It wasn't worth the effort or cost. I would never purchase from this company again. I hope that my answer has helped you. perhaps if you contacted the company that made your press ... they could supply you with the correct replacement . :) |
Question: | what exactly is the difference between the SANTOS and PEBO |
Answer: | Per tape measure: height 7 in. diameter 4 1/2 inches. I hope that helps. |
Question: | Is there a plastic filter in this product |
Answer: | Yeah I won't buy this carafe for more than the whole press assembly will cost me. I was looking for a metal nut to replace the plastic one that comes with the Bodum Brazil 51oz that stripped on mine. Turns out the larger cold brew press comes with a metal one which I was able to switch out with the plastic from the Brazil. Apparently the plastic isn't dishwasher safe. But for 20 bucks just get a new press. Crazy |

Product description
The French press Coffee system is what Bodum is most known for. We've produced millions of presses; we've added more designs, more sizes, more features like double wall glass and a lid that closes completely between pours. As far as we were concerned, we knew everything there was to know about the French press. So imagine our surprise when a customer tells us they've discovered the best way to make ice Coffee with a French press. We've tried it their way and we have to agree - it's fabulous. And simple - which fits our philosophy perfectly. So here's how it goes: first you put the ground Coffee in the jug as usual. Then you add cold water and put the jug in the fridge overnight. In the morning you press down the plunger - et voila - you have the most smooth tasting ice Coffee you can imagine. Enjoy it Black or with milk and let yourself be surprised. The bean comes with two lids: one for the fridge overnight and one with a plunger to press down the Coffee grounds in the morning. The 1. 5 L bean ice Coffee maker is made from plastic, silicone and stainless steel.
- Innovative locking lid system keeps your Coffee hot or cold and helps prevent spills
- Includes two lids; one for the fridge overnight, and one with plunger
- No paper filters required, means more flavor without any waste
- Dishwasher safe
- BPA free plastic
User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone been able to purchase the flat lid as a replacement? I melted mine |
Answer: | I was wondering too! The one I am replacing was bought from Amazon Jan. 2015. It stated Poland on the Glass, but nothing on the plastic. Now they all seem to state Portugal on the glass portion. I like the BODUM embossed plastic frame, but it is an older model with the flat top and D handle. Even Bodum does updates. |
Question: | How long does the coffee last in the fridge after making |
Answer: | Beaker is glass. The handle and the part that the beaker fits into is plastic. |
Question: | What's the advantage of this plastic press over the Bodum 51-ounce "Brazil" glass French press, which costs less and can do both hot and cold brew |
Answer: | I had the other Brazil version. I was able to remove the beaker. VERY CAREFUL, it is in there tight. SOAP and warm water, you should get some movement from it. I wouldn't recommend removing the beaker unless you really have to clean it. If you don't feel comfortable removing the beaker, then I wouldn't. |
Question: | How much coffee to I add to make a full pot of cold brew coffee |
Answer: | It is sad, isn't it, that some misguided bean counter at Bodun decided to earn a bonus by replacing a sturdy, metal piece (like my 30 year old Bodun has) with that ridiculous piece of plastic; saving, what? Two cents worth? Well, that was mine. I will take another commenter's advice and be gentle. It is informative that the elaborate pictures in the description do not show this particular piece; apparently they know. |

Product description
In terms of excellent coffee brewing, manual labor is more popular than ever - that is if pressing a plunger can be qualified as manual labor. The French press lets the coffee beans develop their fullest aroma so it doesn’t come as a surprise that it is the brewing method of choice for coffee tasters trying to determine quality beans. The simplest route to an excellent cup of coffee: coarsely ground coffee, hot water, wait for 4 minutes and press down the plunger. The Chambord has been a classic almost from the day it came out - still is and always will be. This latest update comes with a lid that closes off the spout which makes the Chambord spill-proof should it get knocked over. It also makes for better temperature control. The Chambord comes in four different sizes (0.35l, 0.5l, 1.0l, 1.5l) and now comes with a twist, too - a golden opportunity for an excellent cup of coffee. The Chambord is made from borosilicate glass, plastic, chrome-plated/gold-plated steel and silicone and is dishwasher safe.

User questions & answers
Question: | Any idea where I can get a replacement glass carafe |
Answer: | You *can* get these apart to clean, but be very careful. The most obvious way is to lift the top of the handle to "unhook" it. That's not the easiest way, but if you have the strength it's the safest. I find it easier to remove the base by turning upside down. Looking at the bottom you want to push the beaker with your thumbs while holding the plastic base with your finger tips. The plastic will be more flexible if you soak it in hot soapy water. The dish soap in the hot water will help it slide out. It may pop out suddenly and is very breakable. I always re-assemble base 1st, then snap the handle over the edge of the beaker. (I've had a few of these. Some fit quite tightly others are fairly easy to remove.) |
Question: | I received the Bodum 34 oz press with the locking lid, and manual is unclear: Can you tell me how to lock and unlock the lid? Thanks |
Answer: | Hi! On the description is written 34 ounces (8 cup). Regards, House 2 Home |
Question: | Does Bodum model 11172-16 come with a double walled beaker |
Answer: | Plastic lid, handle, and base not metal. Press is metal however. They work the same, just a matter of looks. |
Question: | Can you make iced coffee also |
Answer: | The Pitcher is made of Borosilicate Glass. The Brazil 12 Cup (1.5 Liter ) [51fl.oz] is made in Portugal. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a way to replace its blades, if they get broken |
Answer: | The Bodum website sells spare parts. http://www.bodum.com/gb/en-us/shop/detail/1504-10/ |
Question: | Is the cord retractable |
Answer: | Once the hot water is inside, place the plunger/lid inside the container and then rotate it so it locks into position. |
Question: | Size?? is it really 4.5 x 4.5 x 8.5" as the specs state? The Bodum I'm replacing is plenty big at 2.5 x 2.5 x |
Answer: | No. It's single-walled glass. Excellent coffee, but take care you don't press so hard as to crack the glass. |
Question: | I don't know how long I should grind my coffee. Do you? I have a french press |
Answer: | I use my French press almost exclusively to make cold brew ice coffee, and nothing beats it! I put in cold water with a ratio of 1/4 cup of coffee to 1 cup of water. Let it sit overnight (10 to 12 hours), push down the plunger, pour into carafe, and add equal parts water (if you end up with 3 cups of coffee, add 3 cups of cold water). You'll be converted after the first cup. |
