The handle was intended to steady oneself in the shower (attached to ceramic tile), but not to pull a person up. If you need a means to assist someone in bed, to stand or sit up, this will not help, no matter how heavy the bedside table is. You might be better served by getting a drawer or cabinet pull and attaching it with screws into the wood. Also, if you're looking for an item to help a bedridden person get out of bed, look in amazon for a railing that can be fitted under the mattress, and removed when not needed. Good luck.

Answer:	You pretty much need to have a fingernail under the top lip to be able to pull these out. It's annoying to an adult to pull them out, so I assume it would be hard for a toddler to even get close to removing one. Also they completely cover an outlet so they are at least an inch and a half wide, I don't think someone could swallow it.
