User questions & answers

Question: Can you use gas station diesel with this heater
Answer: You are able to use diesel #2 with this unit.
Question: Can this heater be used indoors without venting when using diesel? I have seen mixed reviews on the odor when using diesel but more opinions are nice
Answer: I use one indoors in a 1900 ft2 shop. Mostly I use diesel fuel but ignition with straight diesel is problematic with this and most multi fuel units. Diesel actually burns hotter and cleaner (less smell) than kerosine. I mix about 3 gallons of diesel with 2 gallons of kerosine. It a hotter cleaner burn that costs a lot less than straight kerosine.
Question: Does this use a wick like smaller kerosene heaters do
Answer: No, totally different burner type. It uses a powered pump/burner assembly and blows heat out one end, brings in burner air from the other end. Called a "salamander" heater in the construction trades. Also is MUCH noisier than a wick type heater!
Question: How long does a fill tank last
Answer: About 6 hours. Takes a tank and a third to run a 9 hour day.

User questions & answers

Question: Door doesn't expose wick anymore with the new no lift mechanism so how do you manually light when auto ignition fails
Answer: i open the door on the side, raise the screen and then stick the grill lighter in touching the wick to light the heater. Do it every night
Question: I truly need help. The new no lift mechanism does not expose the wick for me to manually light. How can I light this with a match with this NEW model
Answer: Through the little hinged door there a heavy like coil spring that's attached to screan, if you don't see the spring rotate the screan until it's close to the hinge of the little door. Lift the coil upward and with a long nose bbq lighter light the wick, it is easier then I can explain it.
Question: How large of a space have you guys heated this with? Do you think it can cover 1000 sq/ft
Answer: I have been using this product in my living room/dining room area which is roughly 600 to 700 square ft. After about an hour we are sweating! We have discussed moving this into a different part of the house bc of the tremendous heat it puts off. We have been able to turn off all other heat sources so far. Gentle radiating heat. I really don't think it will have a problem heating 1000 feet of space probably more! Great product! Great quality!
Question: How big is the fuel tank
Answer: 1.9 gallons. I don't recommend this heater the flame adjustment sucks. I'm buying a dyna glo better flame control and you can get 12hrs from same size tank barely 7 with this one and it cost more.

User questions & answers

Question: what do I need to fix that it throws smoke so often
Answer: If your unit is not too old then I would insure two things, 1. That your fuel is fresh and 2. that the pump pressure is set according to the fuel you are using. It may require the purchase of a pressure gauge that reads in the range of 0-10 psi. with an 1/8" pipe nipple you can thread it directly to the small fitting on the pump housing to read the pressure. from there you adjust the pressure to accomodate the fuel you are using. K1 kerosene burns cleanest. Set the unit and stick with one fuel type. The pressure needs to set to any such fuel type so dont switch back and forth if you can help it. I'm not an expert on these units but I learned alot searching the internet for clues. I also recieved adequate info with packaging upon arrival. owners manuals can also be located online but I dont have a link for you. Best of luck
Question: Runs on diesel
Answer: Yes it runs on diesel
Question: OK it says on a full tank it will run approximately 10 hours the question I have is how many gallons is the tank? Thanks
Answer: the HS175KT 175K has a 10 gallon / 53 L tank. This is for the 175,000 Btu/hr (51 kW) model.
Question: What is the BTU output
Answer: It looks as though that model is 190,000 BTU but mine is only 175,000 BTU.

User questions & answers

Question: It came with a wire thing with 2 screws. It looks like a guard, but it's not shown or mentioned in the manual. What is this for
Answer: I just got one and there is a sheet explaining that what you're describing is an extension guard. You unscrew the first screw on each side of the heater and use the replacement screws to attach the guard. It is included because this heater is sold in Canada and it's a government requirement to have it. I like the idea and installed it on mine. It's not a mistake.
Question: Is there a troubleshooting guide? Mine starts and runs for about three seconds and shuts down. Must turn off and back on to restart. Where can I get h
Answer: There is a troubleshooting guide on page 6 of the owners manual. I used to work for a rental company that rented these out. It could be a number of things from a bad electrical part,a partialy plugged nozzle, bad thermostat.Try the troubleshooting first. It's not an easy thing to try to explain in emails if you don't know much about these units.Does it keep running after you restart it?
Question: doesithaveafuelguage
Answer: The heater does have a fuel gauge.
Question: Item weight is incorrect on amazon site > product information. it states 1 lbs. what is the correct weight
Answer: I will guess and say the weight is about 35 lbs with no fuel in it. This heater works VERY well and I would certainly buy another one!
