Answer:	The unit does not have wheels, it has small feet. They cannot be detached but they are rubber-like so they should "stick" to the surface. Hope this helps!
Question:	How long does the filter last
Answer:	Depends on how dirty your air is - if you are smoking, or very have very dusty air, cooking odors - it won't last as long. Otherwise, 3-5 years - You do have to take out the foam filter surrounding the inside now and then and shake it out or rinse it. They said you can tell when the big filter needs changing by the air coming out of the machine not smelling good or if you notice odors staying in the air longer than before. I got it mainly to help with my allergies and breathing problems also for any bacteria and viruses. It does filter out 300 different particulates. I use mine 24/7 and it is still doing great almost 2 years later.
Question:	how loud are the different settings? Please compare to other common items
Answer:	Hello, we are showing around 50-70 decibels for low to high for Austin Air. Low is similar to a white noise, refrigerator, or moderate rainfall. High is similar to a driving in traffic or a dishwasher. 50 dB(A)@48 cfm on low, 55 dB(A)@180 cfm, and around 66 dB(a)@400 cfm on high. Since high is frequently too loud for many clients with any traditional air purifier, we often recommend running a unit on high only during the time of a new contaminant or for a few hours when you first use a unit. Answer:	I contacted Austin directly about this. It's purely an aesthetic issue: If you have a lighter colored Healthmate (sandstone, white, etc.) you will need the white filter so as not to have black showing through the perforations around the unit; if your unit is a darker color, then you will need the black filter for a comparable reason. The filters themselves are 100% completely identical as far as composition and performance are concerned.

Answer:	LIke most, there are fan speeds. Pretty sure there is three. Only on high is the air loud. The unit itself is pretty amazing. Also own blue air (500?). Both excellent units. Upkeep on health mate definitely cheaper. Blue air filters $80 every six months.

Answer:	I am not sure if it's an energy star saver unit... There is no sticker stating that it is. However, it is very inexpensive to run. Ours runs on medium 24/7 along with the rabbit air, air purifier and the change in our electric bill is minuscule!
Question:	how about bed smoking smell? Is it working for this
Answer:	If you meant "bad" smoking smell, I would say "yes" it works to eradicate smoking smell from the air. My father smokes and unless I'm right in his presence when he's doing it, I don't smell it. I would say "yes." In general, yes, it works well for that. Pet smells, too, by the way. I have a dog, it doesn't smell in her room. Cuts down on the dust all through the (small) house. I'm glad I invested in one!
Question:	How do I know when to change the filter? Someone else used mine for a year, and now it's quite loud. Is that a sign a new filter is needed
Answer:	I don't think it is the filter, try to remove the filter and put on the machine to see if it changes............usually loud noise is a sign of motor replacement or maybe something happened to the fangood luck.
Question:	how do you change the filter on this I don't even know where it is on the machine how to get the cover off that's where it is
Answer:	Replace it as others have described, but you must clean the pre-filter every 6-12 months in most applications, especially if you have pets, smoke, or otherwise generate a lot of particulates. The inner canister filter is massive, and in many cases it will last the full five years (mine have). However, you should 1) vacuum the outside of the machine every month or so, 2) open it and remove/clean the wrap-around prefilter every 6-12 months (wash in a tub or sink, and hang dry, or replace with something similar from local stores), 3) vacuum the outside of the big filter every year or so to remove what dust you can. It is not that difficult to do, but the unit is heavy and must be turned upside down to open. To me, it is worth it because the main filter is so good. Mechanically, the units are solidly built, but you could have a motor or motor start capacitor failure after several years. That is something you can probably have replaced by a good electrical shop, if you have one. You can send it in for repair, but it is rather expensive and might not be worth it. Not unlike all other larger filters I've seen.

Answer:	This is the most US air cleaner available, though this is the age of global trade and Austin is not always consistent with parts. I have 12 of these cleaners and all are slightly different with the electrical parts. The metal unit and filter are made in New York, but it is my understanding that the HM 405's carbon cloth is a patent protected British product, origins of which are searchable under "Military Carbon Cloth". Coconuts husk is generally used in models other than the HM405 "Allergy Machine", and my understanding is that it is processed or turn into activated carbon in Australia which probably ships the husk in from Southeast Asia, such as Indonesia where palm oil is farmed on a massive scale. The HM 450 uses the coconut treated with Potassium Iodide which helps break down organics into CO2 so they don't act as solvents as they build up on the carbon, extending filter life- this does not help the performance of the unit other than extending life. The HM405 Allergy Machine uses Carbon Cloth rather than 10-15 lbs of coconut derived activated carbon and weighs far less than the standard models and so is easier to move around. The Military Carbon Cloth allows the filter paper to filter before the Carbon which gives this unit different filtering properties and prevents the carbon from filling with dust. To further preserve the performance of your carbon, the unit can be placed in a room above 120 degrees F and run for a few minutes. The hot air causes the carbon to release the organic chemicals it has trapped and even radon and prevents build up in the carbon. We put the units in our van with the heat running for 30 minutes, which is also a great way to kill dust mites and bed bugs. WE HAVE TEN of these units working in each room and they can greatlyimprove your health especially if you sleep with it running.

The HealthMate has best overall coverage and efficiently removes particulates in the air and controls a wide variety of most common household chemicals, gases and odors. The Allergy Machine is as effective at particle removal as the HealthMate, but it contains a lightweight military-grade carbon cloth to more efficiently remove harmful gases.This being said, I have allergies myself (dogs, cats, dust, pollen - you name it) and have been using the HealthMate 400 for nearly 5 years now. It has just about completely eliminated allergy symptoms in our house. So I would say that the Allergy Machine would be a wise investment for people with severe respiratory problems. For most people, the HM400 would work fine. PS. Against, doctor's advice, I kept my pets - dogs and birds - even though I am allergic to both.
