12 best air conditioner coil cleaners
Air conditioner coil cleaners are essential maintenance products used to clean the coils in air conditioning systems. These coils, located in both the indoor evaporator unit and the outdoor condenser unit, play a crucial role in the cooling process.Over time, they can accumulate dirt, dust, debris, and sometimes mold or mildew, which can hinder the efficiency of the air conditioner and reduce its cooling capacity. Therefore, regular cleaning of these coils is vital for maintaining the performance of your air conditioner.
Here are some key points about air conditioner coil cleaners:
Types of Coil Cleaners: There are various types of coil cleaners available on the market, including aerosol sprays, liquid solutions, and foaming cleaners. The choice of cleaner depends on the specific type of coil and the level of dirt or debris that needs to be removed.
Purpose: Coil cleaners are designed to dissolve and remove dirt, grime, and contaminants that accumulate on the coils. They help improve the efficiency of the cooling system by allowing for better heat exchange.
Benefits:
- Improved Efficiency: Clean coils enable better heat transfer, which means your air conditioner can cool your space more effectively and efficiently.
- Energy Savings: When coils are clean, the air conditioner doesn't have to work as hard, resulting in lower energy consumption and potentially reduced utility bills.
- Extended Lifespan: Regular maintenance, including coil cleaning, can extend the lifespan of your air conditioning system by preventing corrosion and damage.
- Better Air Quality: Clean coils can help maintain better indoor air quality by preventing the growth of mold and mildew.
Coil Cleaning Process: To clean air conditioner coils, you typically follow these steps:
- Turn off the power to the unit to ensure safety.
- Remove any debris or loose dirt from the coils using a brush or a vacuum cleaner.
- Apply the coil cleaner as directed by the manufacturer, allowing it to sit for a specified period.
- Rinse the coils thoroughly with water to remove the cleaner and dislodged dirt.
- Allow the coils to dry completely before turning the unit back on.
Safety Considerations: It's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety precautions when using coil cleaners. Proper ventilation and the use of personal protective equipment may be necessary.
Regular maintenance, including cleaning the coils, is crucial for ensuring that your air conditioning system operates efficiently and provides the desired cooling comfort. Neglecting this maintenance can lead to decreased performance and increased energy consumption. Therefore, it's a good practice to incorporate coil cleaning into your HVAC system maintenance routine.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this cleaner remove cigarette smoke and nicotine from coils |
Answer: | Yes it did for my ac. I sprayed it on the inside coil and let it work and then sprayed it again to get it all clean. Then I used a fine spray of warm water from a pump sprayer to flush everything out. Don’t forget to clean your filter and wipe down all the vents as far as you can reach.. I used simple green for that.. no more musty mold smell |
Question: | Will this help rid the damp moldy smell I’m getting from my unit |
Answer: | Yes, I use one can a year. I clean my AC coils in the spring, so it's just about a year before I use it again, and it works just as good as when I first got the can. I hope this helps. |
Question: | expiration date, can I buy now to use 6 months from now |
Answer: | The product contains water, this is not great when it splatters over the condenser motor. Use the condenser coil cleaner instead. |
Question: | can this product be used to clean refrigerator coils |
Answer: | I used it for window units it worked well. |

Question: | Does this foam when sprayed on |
Answer: | I use Total miracle restoring oil sometimes and love it. I have arthritis in my hands and have trouble with the pump sometimes. User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used to clean, disinfect and deodorize a window a/c |
Answer: | I removed two different tubes from cans of WD40 and tried to get them into the nozzle of the Foam Blaster just to answer this question but they wouldn't fit, so not sure if you can find one small enough to work in these cans. That being said, I don't think you will really need to. When I pulled my indoor coil out I was able to get the spray into the vast majority of the coil fin spaces. Once the spray gets onto the fins it expands into a foam that migrates to the hard to reach places, as long as you get within a couple inches to those hard to actually spray onto places. This foam cleaner worked very well for me but I did need to do a second treatment because our coil had become very dirty as well as had some cat hair in it due to a filter being left off for a couple weeks because the stores were completely out of our size filters. |
Question: | Can you attach a plastic tube to the nozzle to redirect the spray to a tough to reach area |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why it doesnt foam? Ive just used it and didnot foam. Did I do it wrong |
Answer: | Sadly there are way too many counterfeit beauty products that have the exact same markings/packaging as their higher-priced originals do. Buying from an Amazon vendor is no guarantee--just like eBay! BUYER BEWARE! But it would be very helpful if everyone would mention who the vendor was when they purchase from Amazon--regardless of a positive or negative experience. Suggest Amazon make it mandatory to list your Seller if you leave a review-I am not buying here. At my hair salon, 10 oz costs $32 plus tax. |
