It took about three refill cycles to get the factory dust out of it, then it was clean when refilling it the fourth time. It lasts overnight when running on low. On high, about 6 hours. But it does put out a great mist. Very happy with this purchase for my mom's bedroom.

Answer:	Hi Grace. I don't own this product anymore but remember having the same issue. There wasn't any way to clean the containers that hold the water, other than pouring in a bit of water and soap to shake around and then rinse out.

Answer:	According to page 9 of my owner's manual, you soak the cartridges in water for 10 minutes, drop one in each tank and then fill the tanks and you're all set!
