Answer:	The first of times it is a bit tight but it will loosen. If you can get your finger between the 2 edges and have someone help pull the table in the opposite direction you can open it. Just close and open it a few times and it will get easier.

Question:	Is it possible to just purchase the table without the chairs
Answer:	The shipping weight is 34.5 lbs. I was able to lift it myself and assemble (on a blanket or carpet to avoid damaging the wood while it was on its side for assembly) in 10 min or less after reading the instructions. The product was well packaged--we had no damage to any pieces and the assembled product is stuffed FULL of books and has held up well (we purchased in January 2013). --Lauren
