I use it under my knees at night and it is quite comfortable. I do not use it for my lower back, so I cannot evaluate it for that purpose. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Answer:	I think they're a bit too heavy for handkerchiefs, but would do well for embroidery. I also must mention that they don't hold up well after being washed a few times. After about 5 washes, they started getting holes and tears, sometimes very large ones. I think I got 5 - 7 uses out of them until one by one they become unusable after washing them.
