The filling inside the cover is 100% poly fiber fill and is not washable. The cover fabric is soft and dimpled; it is an ivory color rather than the white color it looks like in the picture. I use it under my knees at night and it is quite comfortable. I do not use it for my lower back, so I cannot evaluate it for that purpose. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Question:	post-op total hip replacement for side sleeping must keep knees separated and lower legs and ankles stacked. Wil this work
Answer:	yes. It allows you to slide the strap over one leg to keep the pillow in place. It seperates the knees, but it is not so large that is hinders stacking of the lower areas. It's very comfortable. I don't sleep without it.
