13 best now mct oils
Now MCT (Medium-Chain Triglycerides) Oil is a product manufactured by Now Foods, a company known for its health and wellness offerings. MCT oil is a type of dietary fat that consists of medium-length chains of fats called triglycerides. Here are some key points related to Now MCT Oil:
Medium-Chain Triglycerides (MCTs): MCTs are fats that are more easily digested and absorbed by the body compared to long-chain triglycerides (LCTs). MCT oil is often derived from coconut oil and contains various types of MCTs, including caprylic acid (C8) and capric acid (C10).
Dietary Supplement: Now MCT Oil is commonly used as a dietary supplement. It's often added to beverages, smoothies, or used as a salad dressing. Some people incorporate MCT oil into their diets as a source of quick and easily accessible energy.
Ketogenic Diet Support: MCTs are popular among individuals following a ketogenic diet. The body can convert MCTs into ketones, which can be used as an alternative energy source, particularly when carbohydrate intake is restricted.
Energy Source: MCTs are rapidly absorbed and transported to the liver, where they can be converted into ketones. This makes MCT oil a quick and efficient source of energy.
Metabolism Support: Some studies suggest that MCTs may have a modest effect on metabolic rate and may contribute to weight management. However, individual responses can vary.
Brain Health: Ketones produced from MCTs can cross the blood-brain barrier and serve as an energy source for the brain. This has led to interest in the potential cognitive benefits of MCT oil, although research is ongoing in this area.
Vitamins and Dietary Supplements: Now MCT Oil falls under the category of vitamins and dietary supplements. It's important to follow the recommended dosage provided by the product label or healthcare professional.
Health Household: MCT oil may also be used in various household applications, such as in cooking or as a component of homemade skincare products.
As with any supplement, it's crucial to use Now MCT Oil or any MCT oil product as directed.Additionally, individuals with specific health conditions or concerns should consult with a healthcare professional before adding new supplements to their routine. The effectiveness and safety of MCT oil can vary among individuals, and moderation is key when incorporating it into your diet.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the length of the chain? C8, C10, or C |
Answer: | The most effective MCT for those with health issues is C-8, caprylic acid, and it makes up just 50% of this oil. Although 100% of this oil is MCT, only 80% is of the better, shorter-chain fatty acids. Until this was clearly stated on its new label this month, we had thought 98% of this product was either C-8 or C-10, with 95% or more being C-8. This may explain why neither of us has noticed any improvement in memory function. We started adding tablespoons of this oil to our diet about 3years ago (2016). No percentages of MCTs were listed on the label at that time, so we called NOW and were given verbal assurances that this MCT oil contained the above-noted very high amount of C-8. Maybe, it did back then. Not sure, but we didn't see any improvement after taking several tablespoons daily for 6 months or more. We cut back, finally, having losing faith that it would help with brain function. I've just been using it ever since in our smoothies and in place of EV olive oil in salad dressings, etc. For anyone interested in seeing labels, I'm attaching a pic that shows the old label side by side with the new label (on left). I'm glad they now are being totally honest about the quality of the MCTs in their Pure MCT Oil. Consumer Labs just published it's report on MCT oil. This product is really more comparable to the |

Question: | I'd like to hear from someone who has used this product for a couple years. What do you think the over all health effects have been |
Answer: | Eileen: After having two major cancer surgeries, one removing 1/3 of my colon and the other (Whipple surgery for pancreatic cancer), I have a problem with mal-absorption and out of control weight loss. MCT oil was suggested to me by my oncologist and also my nutritionist and after using it for several months I have found it to be easier to digest than other oils. If purchased through a pharmacy, the 32 oz. size costs over $90, so it is a great bargain as purchased through Amazon.Jay Davidson |
Question: | How is this different than slurping down some coconut oil |
Answer: | I would just add that MCT is a by-product of processed coconut oil, it is not found anywhere in nature by itself. You do not get any of the Lauric Acid with a liquid coconut oil. Lauric is very beneficial and without it you are missing much. Why not just stick to regular solid coconut oil and mix it with something over 75 degrees F. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does it have to be refrigerated after opening |
Answer: | No |
Question: | Does this come in a glass bottle? I do not want plastic, thanks |
Answer: | The first three ordered since September 2019 were all glass bottles, but the latest (March 2020) is in a plastic bottle. This should have been disclosed in description, but I do not recall reading of the change. |
Question: | why choose the regular formula over the sports formula |
Answer: | From the Now Sports supplement Facts - MCT Oil (Medium-Chain Triglycerides) (from coconut/palm kernel oil) [50% Caprylic Acid (C8) and 30% Capric Acid (C10)] |
Question: | The Capric Acid is C10 in this While it's 15g in Brain Octane. Does this make a difference |
Answer: | There is no C10 in Brain Octane... it is 100% C8 and a far superior product. NOW MCT is more like Bulletproof XCT that is C8 & C10, except XCT is distilled another time to make it 100% whereas most other MCT sold on the market also contain C17 which can be responsible for GI distress if you take too much |

Question: | Is this product pure c8 or is c10 lauric acid used as well |
Answer: | This product is C8 and C10 without the Lauric acid/c12. |
Question: | Hi - I'm using the MCT liquid now, how do the capsuls compare for same dose? (number of capsuls |
Answer: | the serving is 3 capsules, which has only 25 calories as compared to 100 calories in a TBSP - which is another advantage to the capsules, if you that's a concern for you.I'm still using both - capsules when I'm in a hurry and don't start my day with anything I can blend the oil into. |
Question: | What type of gelatin is used |
Answer: | It's bovine gelatin. |
Question: | How long for the effects to kick in after taking a gel |
Answer: | I use it for weight loss. I would say 4 weeks. This is not a cure all or feel it working in an hour or less. It does not work that way. You also have to do the work in order to drop the weight. It is effective on hard to reach places like the tummy. Don't waste your money if you don't have your eating under control. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does it taste like coconut oil, i cant stand the smell of regular coconut oil or the taste |
Answer: | I wouldnt say that it tastes like coconut oil but its got a flavor. This is the only MCT oil that ive been able to pick out a taste in my coffee. |
Question: | Safety instructions say not to use styrofoam. On travel days, if I add to my smoothie, is styrofoam container ok then |
Answer: | Brilliant idea, take a supplement for your health, make sure it's organic, and then put it in a toxic container. Syrofoam is unethical and should be illegal. It can't be recycled and it's horrible for the environment. Get a safer disposal cup, or better yet reusable. Or just swallow the capsules and then dri k the smoothie. https://www.1millionwomen.com.au/blog/why-you-should-say-no-styrofoam/ |
Question: | So I purchased organic coconut oil in the tub.. is there any difference in taking a tablespoon of that versus taking a tablespoon of this |
Answer: | It depends on why you use coconut oil in the first place. MCT oil is for supplying your body with ketones to burn more fat. Regular coconut oil has all 4 MCTs and is saturated fat. That said, not all MCTs are the same. Brain Octane oil gives you four times more ketone energy than coconut oil.[7] That means you get more brain-powering, fat-burning power than you would with generic MCT oil. Here’s a closer look at what that means: C8 (caprylic acid): This is Brain Octane oil, and it’s the all-around best MCT for ketogenic energy. It produces more ketones than coconut oil, which means more ketone benefits like amplified energy, fat loss and metabolic burn. C10 (capric acid): Supports energy, fat burning and metabolism, but doesn’t produce as many ketones as C8 does. XCT oil is a blend of C8 and C10. C12 (lauric acid): AKA what you’ll mostly find in coconut oil.[8] Your body doesn’t treat C12 like an MCT, and it doesn’t produce as many ketones. Bottom line: C8 and C10 are the best types of MCTs overall, whether you follow the keto diet or just want more energy. Bulletproof only uses C8 and C10 MCT oils. That matters. |
Question: | Has anyone tried both Bulletproof's Brain Octane oil and this product? if so, how do you think one compares to the other |
Answer: | I've tried three brands: Bulletproof, Sport Research and Organic Diet. I did like Sport Research: I had used it for 18 months before my uncle advised me to try Organic Diet and I did. I liked the idea to add hemp oil to MCT-oil, as it decreases the stress level and helps me to get rid of diet anxiety. So I think Organic Diet is 5/5, Bulletproof and Sport Research are both 4/5. But I think Sport Research is a bit more tasty and less smelly. |
