I think it would work great for shorter folks. I'm just 5'6" & it raises me quite a bit. I'm thinking I might just try it while driving next time I'm out. As for staying firm, I haven't used it enough to really know how it will hold up over time, but it's very firm & appears to be really well made.

Answer:	This cushion is very helpful in getting up from a seated position I take mine with me to all restaurants , church and any place I think I might have trouble rising,

Answer:	Although it has a leather look, I believe it it some type of synthetic material--maybe plastic of some sort. The problem with it is that it is very slippery. My husband was using it in a lift chair and also a motorized wheelchair and in both cases the fear was that he would slip out and be on the floor. The good thing about that kind of cover is that it would be easy to keep clean.
