User questions & answers
Question: | Can you change the angle of the clamp to fit a tub that curves down |
Answer: | There is very little adjustment in the clamping part of the devise. If this is like the old claw foot tub, I dough it would work. Good luck. |
Question: | Does anyone know what I can use to cover the edges on the bottom outside metal part. My mother is worried that she will cut her leg on the corners |
Answer: | I dont know of anything specifically you can use to cover the edges, however they are not sharp and shouldnt pose any issues. |
Question: | will this fit on a corner large bathtub? needing to get some for my parents! just want to make sure they fit |
Answer: | I don't believe it will open enough to fit on a corner. |
Question: | Why can't this device be used on a fiberglass tub |
Answer: | I suspect it is not recommended for fiberglass tub because fiberglass tub walls tend to be not as solid as steel tub walls, thus the clamp might not be able to grab tight enough to the tub, which will increase chances of the tub rail slipping when someone puts much weight on it. There is a chance of damaging/cracking the fiberglass tub wall as well. If you use this with a fiberglass tub, keep in mind you are using it in a way that it is not designed for and the manufacture has warned against using it that way. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where can I get address for Drive medical company |
Answer: | 99 Seaview Blvd Port Washington NY 11050 516-998-4600 877-224-0946 |
Question: | i have looked at many like products most have some type of wobbling problem even after tightening to the best of my ability , is there a feature to prevent this |
Answer: | It has worked very well for us. We have not had to tighten it since we installed it. No problems whatsoever. I rely on it everyday and would recommend it. |
Question: | Why a weight limit? Does it matter if it's just being used as something to grab getting out of the shower |
Answer: | Hi InPinkClover, Thanks for your interest in the Drive Medical Adjustable Height Bathtub Grab Bar Safety Rail. This grab rail has a weight limit because if too much weight is placed on the grab rail it can cause it to snap or break much like anything that too much force is applied to. The weight limit is too ensure that under that weight it will not break. |
Question: | How can it help while showering - isn't it behind the shower curtain when the curtain is closed |
Answer: | no, it doesn't help while showering, as it IS behind the shower curtain. It is only helpful for securely getting in and out of the bath tub safely. If you need help in the shower, I would recommend grab bars attached to the wall. |

User questions & answers
Question: | It look like the distance between the horizontal rails and the grab bar is fixed. What is the distance between the horizontal rails and the grab bar |
Answer: | The grab bar height is actually adjustable. It looks like the grab rail is ABOUT 34" - 39" from the floor. I do not have it installed, so that may be off a little. I can't install it because the legs (even though ajustable) are too tall for my older box spring & frame. Before it can work at my house it would have to fit between the box spring and mattress. My mattress is a little over 14" off the ground. The legs are about 16" tall at their lowest, so installed, the stabilizing bar lifts the mattress off the box spring top. That is a rough measurement because I can't lift the mattress by myself to get the stabilizing bar back in there. Lost my helper to the surgery for a while yet - so I can't be exact. No lifting here at all for a couple more weeks. Sorry about that. It would be a good idea for the right bed. Maybe the manufacturer can give the exact measurements. The adjustable ranges are not printed in the documentation. Unfortunately I tossed it all as well as the box so I can't help with manufacturer's name either. |
Question: | What is the weight capacity for this and will it prevent falling out of bed as well as help getting up |
Answer: | I don't know what the weight capacity is, my husband is 6'3" and weighs 215 lbs and it works for him. As far as falling out of bed, it depends on where you place it. It definitely helps getting in and out of bed. My mom is 91 and we have one for her as she falls out of bed frequently and she hasn't fallen out singe installing it on her bed. |
Question: | Is it possible to place this with the legs inside the bed frame instead of the outside? I'm concerned my dad would trip over the legs |
Answer: | The legs do not stick out but sit right up next to the bed frame if you put the device up under the mattress far enough. My mom loves hers. Helps her turn over and sit up on the edge of the bed. She uses a walker also and there is no problem with the device interfering with the walker. |
Question: | What is the lowest it can be adjusted to? How far does it insert under the mattress |
Answer: | The lowest adjustment to the handle height is sixteen inches (16") from the floor to the box mattress, the highest is 20 plus inches (20" plus). We have a low profile box mattress (13" from floor) so it didn't work. It goes under the mattress 32" to 40". I could see where this item would work very well with a higher box mattress (16" plus from the floor) and therein lies the problem for us. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the inside width |
Answer: | In the app, you have to go to your orders and tap where it says return or replace, it asks how you want your refund and if you want to go to UPS or kohls to do it. |
Question: | rubber feet |
Answer: | It would, but with absolutely no room to spare. I measured from Left side knobs to Right side knobs. There would be no room for the little magazine rack (very easily removable). Anyway, from knob to knob, it's exactly 28" inches. It's a great product; I hope it will fit. If your space is 27-7/8" ... nope. If a full 28" it will fit, but the knobs will touch the walls. |
Question: | Does this have anything on the feet to prevent slipping |
Answer: | Hi! My name is Jasmine and I am with Beyond Med Shop. The stand-alone toilet rail weighs approximately 10 pounds without the box. I hope this clarifies your question. Please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected] if you require additional assistance. |
Question: | does it mount to floor, if not what keeps person from tipping forward |
Answer: | 12.5’’ to 17.5’’ between clamps, 22.5’’ to 24.5’’ between rails. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does Medicare cover this as a purchase |
Answer: | Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers walkers as durable medical equipment (DME). The walker must be Medically necessary and prescribed by your doctor or other treating provider for use in your home. No, although exceptions exist under Medicare Part B (80%-20%) if deductibles are met. If you can get a doctor's prescription saying that crutches or canes will not provide the support needed, it may be possible for Medicare Part B to cover a knee walker. Medicare considers this to be a luxury medical device; not one of necessity when crutches will suffice. Also, Medicare will only cover your DME if your doctors and DME suppliers are enrolled in Medicare. Doctors and suppliers have to meet strict standards to enroll and stay enrolled in Medicare. If your doctors or suppliers aren’t enrolled, Medicare won’t pay the claims submitted by them. So ask your supplier first in they participate in Medicare. AMZ is NOT an approved Medicare supplier. Please check locally. |
Question: | are small or large wheels important. what is the difference in using the scooter |
Answer: | The big difference with the scooter is that you don't have to use crutches!! It is so much more comfortable! I still needed crutches to use stairs, but otherwise this enabled me to go out and do things. It is painful and exhausting to use crutches. I don't think the size of the wheels make any difference. |
Question: | Do the brakes lock without having to hold the handle in |
Answer: | Do the brakes have a locking button or lever that keeps the brakes locked without having to hold the brake by hand? There are conflicting answers posted. |
Question: | How much does this unit weigh |
Answer: | This unit weighs approximately 6 lbs. The basket is detachable which makes the unit lighter. The ease of use and light weight make this device user friendly. |

Question: | does this work with tile |
Answer: | The mounting flange is 3" in diameter, and the escutcheon plate that covers the mounting flange is about 3-1/4" in diameter. Details: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CLHBN4X?ref_=pe_527950_33920250_dpLink&th=1 |
Question: | What is the exact length measured from the outside of the flanges |
Answer: | That's 2-1/16 inches |
Question: | when installed, how far does the furthest part of the bar protrude from the wall |
Answer: | I DIDNT NEED ANY ADDITIONAL HARDWARE, YOU DO NEED A DRILL BIT AND SCREW DRIVER. |
Question: | what diameter is the bar? 1 1/2 or |
Answer: | Ray, If bar is being mounted to wooden wall studs, hole in tile should be large enough for the fastener to pass through. You want the fastener to pull against the wood & not the tile, which you may break. If mounting with plastic anchors start with a 3/16” bit & perhaps enlarge with a screw driver to achieve a tight fit. |

Question: | How wide is the space between each handle |
Answer: | Hello,Thank you for your inquiry, Yes it can be used over a regular toilet.Thank you again, Luis @ DriveLink http://www.drivemedical.com/index.php/folding-steel-commode-retail-2.htmlItem RTL11148KDR; Folding Bedside Commode with Bucket and Splash Guard |
Question: | It specifies seat height 17 to 23 inches. Does this mean that you can adjust the seat height from sitting position to floor up to 23 inches |
Answer: | Dk |
Question: | I saw in another customer question that this is just the frame without the toilet seat? what use is it then? does this really not come with a seat |
Answer: | this chair has lots of room............very comfortable. it was very easy to assemble and was the easiest one i could see to empty.....just lift the seat and the pail has handles to pick it right up. i highly recommend it. |
Question: | Can this be used over a regular toilet instead of with the commode |
Answer: | In searching how to use splash guard, I discovered it is like a funnel that is used when using commode over toilet. The guard "replaces" the bedside commode bucket and directs urine and feces to toilet bowl. It is not a splash guard to use with bucket to contain urine inside bucket when using as bedside commode. It would sure be nice to have guard for those men with shriveled penis that tend to "stick up" when they urinate, therefore urinating over seat onto floor. Please excuse my explicit explanation, but I wanted to explain it very clearly. Also, it would be nice to have "optional" wheels that retract it you wish to use as bedside commode and/or over toilet. It is lightweight and I can carry, but some others may not be able to do so. I am not complaining about this commode, as it is wonderful and am only making suggestions that "I" feel might help. |

Question: | my strap is in bad shape how can I repalce it |
Answer: | sorry but this item is sold as a whole unit. Maybe you can try calling Drive Medical to get a replacement for the strap. Many thanks |
Question: | how do you put the straps around your head |
Answer: | Put the straps around your head as shown in the picture before attaching the straps to the crossbar. Then, while sitting below the arm and pulley, pull the cross bar down with one hand. With the other hand, grab the ring in the corner of the straps, on one side of the head and slide the crossbar through the ring until the ring falls into one of the slots on the cross bar.Change hands holding the crossbar without releasing it. Then use the other hand to grab the ring on the other side of the straps. Thread the crossbar on that side of the head, through the ring and slide in into the same slot position as you did before. Slowly release the crossbar putting tension on the neck.Hope this helps |
Question: | What is the correct way of using this device, facing away from the door, or facing the door. Heard facing away is not correct, best, or wise |
Answer: | I have done it facing the door but the picture shows away from the door. As long as you are getting traction I would think whichever way is more comfortable for you. |
Question: | Can sand be used instead of water |
Answer: | I've never used sand in the pouch that comes with the unit; however the pouch does seem strong enough to use sand. Keep in mind that sand weighs close to 50% more than water in a volume measurement so if you used 2 gallons of water that's just under 17 pounds and 2 gallons of sand is a little over 25 pounds. I use my traction set hooked up to a weight stack using as much as 40 pounds. The metal and strapping holds fine. It's a bit tough on my jaw and teeth so if you use 25 pounds or more of sand you will be using more than the manufacturer wants used on the unit and I would suggest a mouth guard id you have one. Hope that helps. |
