14 best bed alarms
Bed alarms are devices designed to enhance the safety and care of individuals who may be at risk of falling or require assistance in a home or healthcare setting. These alarms are categorized under Mobility Daily Living Aids and are often found in Medical Supplies & Equipment. Here's what you should know about bed alarms:
Purpose: Bed alarms are used to monitor the movements and activities of individuals while they are in bed, particularly those who are at risk of falling or need help getting in and out of bed. They serve as a safety measure to prevent accidents and provide timely assistance.
Components: A typical bed alarm system consists of the following components:
- Sensor Pad: Placed on the bed under the patient, the sensor pad detects changes in pressure when the person attempts to get up or move.
- Alarm Unit: This component is placed within hearing range of the caregiver or in a location where it can be easily heard. When the sensor pad detects movement, it triggers an audible alarm to alert the caregiver.
Types of Alarms:
- Wireless Bed Alarms: These alarms transmit signals wirelessly to a receiver, providing greater flexibility in placement.
- Corded Bed Alarms: These alarms are connected by a cord to the sensor pad and alarm unit.
- Voice-Activated Alarms: Some advanced models can be voice-activated to minimize false alarms.
Benefits:
- Fall Prevention: Bed alarms help prevent patients or elderly individuals from attempting to get out of bed without assistance, reducing the risk of falls.
- Quick Response: Caregivers can respond promptly when alerted by the alarm, providing assistance as needed.
- Peace of Mind: Bed alarms offer peace of mind to both patients and caregivers, allowing patients to request help when necessary.
Settings:
- Home Use: Bed alarms are commonly used in home care settings to assist family members or caregivers in monitoring the safety of their loved ones.
- Healthcare Facilities: They are also prevalent in hospitals, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities to ensure the safety of patients and residents.
Adjustable Sensitivity: Many bed alarms allow for adjustable sensitivity settings to accommodate various patient needs and preferences. This ensures that the alarm is triggered when necessary while minimizing false alarms.
Battery or AC Powered: Bed alarms are typically powered by batteries or can be plugged into an electrical outlet, offering flexibility in terms of power source.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as checking battery levels and ensuring proper sensor pad placement, is essential to ensure the reliability of bed alarms.
Caregiver Training: Caregivers and healthcare professionals should be trained on how to use bed alarms effectively, including how to respond when an alarm is triggered.
Bed alarms are valuable tools in promoting the safety and well-being of individuals who require assistance in bed. They are particularly useful for preventing falls, especially in healthcare settings where patients may have mobility challenges or be at risk of wandering.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this product fit for person that under 120 lbs |
Answer: | When the mattress the pad is being used upon is a firm, innerspring mattress, this item will likely still work fine for someone under 120 pounds. However, if the mattress is not firm, or has anything "non-standard" about it, such as it is a TempurPedic, memory foam, or air mattress, or if there is some type of padding that has been added to the bed, this 10" x 30" sensor pad may not properly register the body at all times. This can cause false alarms, or majorly delayed alerts. You may want to consider a system with a 20" x 30" sensor pad instead, which is more effective under those scenarios, and can be purchased here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYA53BW |
Question: | does this have an on/off switch? is there an AC adaptor? how long do batteries last |
Answer: | Rob- it did have on/off. Not sure on the AC Adapter... Batteries lasted a few weeks minimum. I don't remember there being any issue with them at all.Was happy with the product. Good luck. |
Question: | Does this make a sound when the patient gets in the bed |
Answer: | No only when they get out. When I put my mom to bed I always press on it just to make sure it will sound when she gets up. |
Question: | The "C" batteries power the receiving alarm unit? What powers the transmitter in the pad |
Answer: | The transmitter inside the pad is powered by a non-replaceable lithium battery. The battery has been engineered to last the duration of the pad's life term, which is one year. Replacement pads are available separately from this system. Note that this system should always come with a one year warrantied sensor pad, not 45 or 90 days. If you ever receive anything but a one year pad, you should immediately contact Amazon and ask to return the item, as that means the seller you bought the system from is not offering the correct product. We do not recommend re-purchasing from the same seller, as you are likely to again receive the same incorrect product. |

It keeps great time and even the radio has great sound when used as an alarm. You can adjust the radio volume, just not the buzzer sound. |

Question: | do you have to change the battery every 14 days |
Answer: | I delivered the kit to my mother's rest home and they used it for several months. She doesn't try to get out of bed on her own anymore so they discontinued using it. I'm not sure how often they should change the batteries but I'm sure they used the unit for several months and did not change the batteries at all. |

Answer: | Yes, definitely. It worked when my 45 pound six year old tried it out for us. |

Place the pad under your patient's back or buttock area (beneath the fitted sheet). The pad has a cord which runs along the side of the mattress. When the patient starts to sit up, taking their weight off the pad, the pad sends a signal to the bed alarm monitor and the monitor will start to alarm and let you know they need assistance. This unit is designed to help kids over age 3 to stop wetting their beds, with a special moisture sensor clamped on the child's underpants to go off at the first sign of urination, and the alarm to awaken the child to go to toilet. The line is detachable which makes it easier to stop the alarm and clean it.
How Do Bedwetting Alarms Work?
1. Alarms work on the principle of Conditioned Learning by building the brain-bladder connection and alerting the child when wetting occurs.
2. When the moisture sensor detects the first drop of urine, the alarm will give out a "beeping" sound, start vibrating and flash the light to wake your child. The alarm will continue to sound until the moisture sensor is removed from the underwear.
3. After weeks' use, a link between urination and being woken is established and your child's mind learns to 'beat the alarm', hopefully leading to dry nights.
Product description
Instead of sounding an alarm, the motion sensor sends a wireless signal to a pager carried by the caregiver (clipped to a belt or inside a pocket). This allows the caregiver to be notified wherever they are without disturbing residents. When positioned along the bedside the fall monitor will alarm as the resident attempts to vacate the bed. (extendable bracket is sold separately). Wireless sensor operates on 3 AA batteries. Pager operates on 2 AA batteries. Batteries not included.Optional AC Adapter: AC-04. A silent wireless signal is sent to the caregiver pager up to 300 ft away.

User questions & answers
Question: | I see on the back there is a place to insert a dc 6-12 v adapter. can you use this instead of batteries |
Answer: | Yes you can use an adapter, but it is important to use the one made by the manufacturer for this product. There are currently two different versions of the TL-5102MP in circulation, and each of them take a different adapter. We recommend contacting the manufacturer, Smart Caregiver, at 800-650-3637 in order to determine which model you need. |
Question: | How does sensor work-just barrier being broken or does patient wear sensor |
Answer: | If barrier is broken the sensor the pager will make a very loud sound. As there was no adjustment for sound control, we always placed the pager in another room. Trust me, you will hear the sound. This device was a life saver for the family as caregivers for our father. I daresay it prevented many falls and broken bones. |
Question: | Does this have a narrow enough field of view to be used to monitor a front door without triggering whenever someone was walking around in the room |
Answer: | Absolutely. We used it to monitor my Mom's hospital bed. Dad's was right next to hers and it only alarmed when she got up. My Mom is deceased do now we use it for exactly the application you asked about. We keep it on a bar by the front door. It alarms if Dad crosses it to the door, but not while the rest of us walk around the room. Just direct the beam to the area you need as though there is a string from the device to a point across the room. This thing is very much worth the money! |
Question: | Has anybody used with pets? I have a cat. What would be the issues |
Answer: | I haven't used it with pets but with my 90 year old Mom...it is great. It is loud but that is ok since it wakes me up quickly. You can always put it under pillows to muffle the sound. It is really sensitive. I have recommended it to several caregivers. I would think it would work with pets depending on the purpose. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i purchase a second transmitter so I don't have to move it from the bed pad to the chair pad |
Answer: | You use two pads with one transmitter. Contact the provider of the product and they can walk you through it. Works great. |
Question: | Does it come with an alarm ? And how long is the cord |
Answer: | One alarm two pads... One pad for the chair and one pad for the bed. Wish it had two alarms so I didn't have to move it back and forth from room to room. The cords could be a little longer, but then someone might trip over them. The cords are long enough - one can make due. One does not need to reach an electrical socket. It uses one or two (AA or AAA) batteries. The batteries last a long time. For us - it was well worth the money. My husband is in stage 4 parkinson's with dementia and is clinically blind. He has no balance and cannot get up on his own - even though he tries from time to time. The chair / bed alarm has allowed me the freedom to move around the house and not be in the same room with him. The alarm is loud enough that I can hear it throughout the house. I also use a baby monitor - and can take the dog out or go get the mail. It amplifies the beep beep beep - so I can immediately come back in the house - knowing he is trying to get up. Easily wipes off (if necessary) - with a warm cloth. Anything else? |
Question: | CAn pads be purchased separately? If so, what are product numbers |
Answer: | I think it only comes with both pads and the sensors |
Question: | I don’t want my father to be able to hear the alarm, I only want the alarm to come through the receiver that with me. Is that the case with this item |
Answer: | The alarm is next to the chair or bed and is very loud. We mainly used this at night so we when my grandmother tried to get up when we were asleep. It's like in the hospital, they use these for the high fall risk patients so they can get there before they fall. |
Product description
This wireless/cordless system has both the bed pad and chair pad. When the patient lifts their weight from either pad, the alarm will sound up to 100' from the pad. Pads are made of a high quality soft vinyl, incontinence protected and feature a layer of foam for more comfort for the patient. The alarm monitor is about the size of a large coffee cup and can be easily carried about the home. The alarm features 3 volume levels and an on/off switch. The bed pad should be placed under the lower sheet in the bed, or in the chair. When the patient lifts their weight from the pad, the alarm will sound. The caregiver can take the alarm anywhere up to 100' from the pads and still receive the alarm. This system will also wake the care person at night so they can rest easy, knowing they will know the moment their patient starts to rise from their bed. This system operates on 3 C batteries, (not included) however, to reduce the amount of batteries you will use for the life of your products, you might wish to purchase an AC adapter for this alarm unit. Contact seller for details.
- Complete system includes 1 wireless bed alarm, 1 cordless bed sensor pad, and 1 cordless chair sensor pad. All items have a 1 year manufacturer warranty. System enables the caregiver to decide where to hear the alarm notification. Use this product for fall prevention; know when someone is getting out of a bed or chair unattended.

- The alarm will sound continuously when weight is removed from the pad. To silence the alarm, either turn the alarm off, (switch located on the side of the alarm), or reapply weight to the bed sensor pad.

User questions & answers
Question: | Could i add an dditional chair alarm to this system? My dad has 2 chairs that he mainly uses during the day |
Answer: | You may add up to six products to the cordless alarm that you currently have which is the 433-EC. |
Question: | Is this made by Smart Caregiver |
Answer: | Ye, it is made by smart caregiver |
Question: | Do you recommend this product for a king sized bed |
Answer: | The pad size is not depending on the bed size. The 10x30 is recommended for anyone 120lbs and above. The 20x30 is recommended for anyone below 120lbs. It will work fine with a king size bed. Please the pad horizontally across the bed with the bottom of the bed pad above the person's waistline so when person does get up his or her body will be completely off the bed pad alerting the alarm monitor. This is the best way to get the quickest alert response time. |
Question: | Do you need to reactivate the alarm each time the person gets up? How does the alarm know if the person is on the bed or the chair |
Answer: | No, you do not need to reactivate the alarm. The weight of the person laying on or sitting on the pad keeps it off. When they get up and their weight is gone, the alarm sounds. When they lay on or sit back on it, the alarm goes back off. There is a button to push when the person lays down or sits on the pad. When you get them up, you push it to turn it off while they are away from the pad. |
