12 best dry flush toilet

A dry flush toilet is a type of toilet system that differs from traditional flush toilets in how waste is managed. Instead of using water to flush waste into a sewage system or septic tank, dry flush toilets use a unique waste containment and disposal method. These toilets are often used in situations where water conservation is a priority or in areas with limited access to plumbing infrastructure. Here's how a dry flush toilet typically works:

  1. Containment: Dry flush toilets have a bowl or seat like traditional toilets, but they do not use water to flush waste. Instead, they have a specialized liner or cartridge that is placed inside the toilet bowl. This liner is designed to hold and seal in human waste.

  2. Sealing and Disposal: After using the toilet, a user typically presses a button or lever to activate the dry flush mechanism. This mechanism seals the waste in an airtight bag or container within the liner, effectively isolating it from the surrounding environment.

  3. Disposal of Waste: Once the waste is sealed, it is ready for disposal. Some dry flush toilets are designed for portable or temporary use, and users can simply remove and dispose of the waste containment unit in an appropriate waste disposal system. Others may be connected to a centralized waste management system, which may involve professional disposal services.

Advantages of dry flush toilets include:

  • Water Conservation: Dry flush toilets do not require water for flushing, making them highly water-efficient.

  • Odor Control: The sealed waste containment system helps minimize odors and makes them suitable for use in various settings.

  • Portability: Some dry flush toilets are designed for portable use, making them convenient for camping, RVs, boats, and other outdoor activities.

  • Reduced Environmental Impact: The reduced water usage and potential for compostable waste containment units can have a lower environmental impact compared to traditional flush toilets.

However, there are also some limitations to dry flush toilets:

  • Maintenance: The waste containment units need periodic replacement or disposal, which can incur ongoing costs.

  • Initial Cost: Dry flush toilets can be more expensive to install initially compared to traditional flush toilets.

  • Limited Capacity: The waste containment units have limited capacity, so they may not be suitable for heavy or continuous use.

In summary, dry flush toilets are an alternative to traditional flush toilets that conserve water and manage waste in a different way. They are used in various settings and offer advantages in water conservation and odor control, but they may have higher upfront costs and require ongoing maintenance.

User questions & answers

Question: Can these portable toilets be connected to the sewer pipe (black water hose) at campgrounds
Answer: No. The bottom portion that stores the waste water has to be deprecated and dumped.
Question: How much water is released when pump os operated
Answer: If I were to guess I'd say 1-2 cups, roughly 240-475 ml
Question: Is the center hole 8 x 9 like most others
Answer: You're correct. It's 9 in. front to back and 8 1/4 in. wide. You made me curious, so I measured my bathroom toilet. It's considered a long bowl and measures 10 in. front to back and the same 8 1/4 in. wide. Thank you for helping me learn something new. If I'm ever confronted by a mugger who says "tell me how big your toilet is or I'll blow your head off" I now know the answer. You may have saved my life!
Question: What happens after 50 flushes? Is there a battery and is it replaceable? Not enthusiastic about purchasing a new one every 50 flushes
Answer: There are two halves, top half has a cap to fill clean water and a plunger to push the clean water into the tank. The bottom half is for the waste which needs to be empty. There is an indicator in the front to let you know when it's due. I empty it about 3/4 full. I made the mistake once when the level was all red, DON'T DO THAT! 3/4 is best. To break down the waste, I use Walex Bio-Pak (for breaking down waste) and Porta-Pak (deodorizer), one each. I put them after setting it up and after each cleaning. It almost completely turns it into liquid. Fresh scent porta-pak seems to smell better (blue package) than lavender (purple package), however bio-back (green package) IS DEFINITELY NEEDED to break down waste. After the bottom tank gets full, (more like 40 flushes than fifty) it needs to be emptied, rinsed out with clean water and set back up. After its set up put in one bio-pak and one porta-pak. You can order through Amazon for those. The water tank, upper portion holds about 2.5 gallons (about 9.5 liters), I don't pull the plunger all the way up, only about half way or as needed. This way it conserves on water. Hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: I have a room above my barn that will sleep 4 for a week. I am thinking of installing this in an extra stall probably for night use. Thoughts
Answer: Living in the country with a barn too , I'd say thats a great idea. Wish I had a guest room in the barn. In a stall inside the barn is a perfect place for this port a potty so ladies dont hafta go outside in middle of nite or 1st thing in morn. If it works good inside my house will work gr8 in the barn.
Question: I am converting a shed into living space. Could I use this vs. installing a septic system
Answer: A composting toilets is $1000. This is $70. I lived in my Airstream and this was my toilet.( Only #1 went in the holding tank for #2 put a grocery sack over the bowl ) I used it probably 5 times a day. After three months the rubber gasket got worn out on the flusher. Rigged it for a month .the remaining 5 months I just used my shower head sprayer which was a foot away. I am now ordering #2. I can buy this 14 times for the cost of a composting toilet..that plus my #2 go in the trash every day usually within 10 minutes of the bootycakes arrival..they don't compost inside my tiny space
Question: Can this be emptied into your residential toilet? I had one in a popup camper that you could empty the cassette in a regular toilet
Answer: You can as long as it is not overloaded with toilet paper & other solids.
Question: How much water per flush is recommended? How many days of one person using it for mostly "solids" would it work for
Answer: Well this unit holds about 5 gallons of water, each flush is less then quater of gallon depending how many times you pump to dispose the waste. 1 to 3 flushes should do it. It has a decent pressure, not like a real toilet but enough to clean the bowl. I took it with me camping and I had three females ranging from 7 and 34 years, of age. Believe it or not I only had to dispose the waste every two to three days depending on use.

User questions & answers

Question: Is there a way to take apart the bottom half in order to clean it? Waste builds up on any toilet and needs to be scrubbed, not just rinsed
Answer: I carry the bottom waste tank to the campground toilet along with two gallon jugs of treated water. I dump the waste first. Then I pour in 1/3 to 1/2 a gallon of treated water. Swish around and drain into the camp toilet. Check to see how clean it is or if there's an area that needs extra effort. Usually not. And then use the gallon up in 1 to 2 more rinses and swishes and draining. I use the very same products that they recommend to keep a toilet like this to not smell and develop problems with the waste and helps to break up and sanitize the waste too. I find this has worked well with no ill effects to me or my portable loo itself. Now I hate this loo since it's battery power flusher arrived busted and I did not realize it was broken until the wires themselves also broke off since it just dangled under the screw cap. That is another issue and trying to find a replacement import to fix it or switch it to a manual loo. I recommend looking for a different model or buying the manual flush version not this one. The company does not support it in the USA only in Europe under a different name.
Question: I love the toilet but I have noticed that pressure builds up in the tank and if a user opens the gate valve with the seat/lid up it is enough to cause them to get a faceful of poop spray. I did not have this problem with an earlier model Thetford and am puzzled as to what the cause might be. Permanent mount in sailboat
Answer: Yes I noticed this also the reason is this toilet has bigger tanks then my older one and the larger the tank the more air pressure can build inside of it the easy fix for this is before you use the toilet wad a few squares of toilet paper and set it directly over the hole and then close the lid and open the slide on the toilet slowly and that will let the pressure out and You won’t get splash in the face then you’re good to go and you might want to do that every time if it’s going to be hot where you’re at or if you’ve changed altitude.
Question: How or where do you empty this toilet? Can it be emptied in a cabin toilet? Is it nasty to empty
Answer: Susan - the toilet separates with a latch into top and bottom halves. The bottom half iss the waste tank. When you separate the halves you will see a tube with a screw cap that swivels out to the side. This will serve as the spout to enable you to pour the waste into any flush toilet. By "cabin toilet", I assume you mean a normal toilet with plumbing. If so, yes. If you mean a compost toilet, then you can empty the waste into it, but keep in mind that it will be up to 5 gallons, which could overload a small compost toilet. It's not particularly nasty to empty, especially if you press the small relief valve button before opening the cap on the waste spout. This will prevent splashback. When you pour the waste out, just do it slowly and gently to prevent "glugging" and splash. After the waste is emptied, just run some water back onto the pour spout, replace the cap, and slosh around a bit to rinse clean. Then empty the rinse water into the toilet as well. Make sure to replace the deodorant liquid before storing to eliminate odor. The Thetford site has some pretty good into on the emptying process at http://www.thetford.com/HOME/PRODUCTS/PortableToilets/ThetfordPortableToiletVideos/tabid/871/Default.aspx. Also, check out the YouTube demo at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwNFB6NVGf4. Hope this helps!
Question: Can this also be manually flushed in case your batteries are dead
Answer: This is a REALLY sore subject with this model toilet. The battery-powered flushing mechanism is short-lived, where it will suddenly and inexplicably break. Added to this is that Thetford doesn't offer a reasonable replacement for the flush mechanism in the U.S., they want to charge almost as much as the entire toilet unit! So if your flush mechanism breaks (and it will), then A) you can't flush the toiler from the toilet's reservoir water anymore, and B) you can't buy a replacement pump for less than the cost of a whole toilet. In the 1-star review section of this product I found that this same toilet is sold under a different name in Europe, and that replacement parts are actually available for it, so I was able to completely get rid of the battery pump and replace it with a manual one:Piston pump: 92401111 (Signal white) 9240166 (Light ivory) 92401130 (Ruby red)Electric pump: 92402135 (Light grey granite) 9240207 (Traffic grey)Hope this helps someone.

Question: Hello. I was wondering if this product actually contains the bio-gel or not. The package states it does, but customer reviews says it is not present
Answer: Unfortunately I threw away the box, but I've used PUR for years after comparing it with Brita, which wasn't as thorough as PUR. I know that PUR took out a number of things, all of which I was glad to get rid of. I don't think PUR makes other filters except other shapes for faucets, but as far as I know they all filter the same things. Maybe you could go online or to the store to compare their information with others? Sorry I can't be more specific.
Question: How long can 1 bag remain "on duty" inside a privacy shelter at a family campsite? Change daily? Longer
Answer: These do not have a stage on them . I filter with them and use water . Box says it filters 22 contaminants & substances
Question: does 6-pack mean there are 6 bags or 6 boxes totaling 36 bags
Answer: It doesn't specifically mention lead, so it is likely that these are the basic filters.
Question: are these bags biodegradable
Answer: It comes as two 3-packs. Each box comes with 3 stickers to keep track of the date.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work with the 210 model
Answer: Yes! Both PUR faucet filters are made to be compatible with all of our current faucet mounts. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at [email protected]. Thank you.
Question: Does this require any rubber seal when replacing this? If so, does this come with a seal
Answer: When the light seems to have stopped working check the small spring loaded clip inside the base unit. With the filter cartridge removed this spring loaded clip is supposed to flip up to reset the filter replacement light. This clip can sometimes become stuck so try gently prying up on it (you may need to use a flashlight to locate this clip).
Question: Will this work on a Sealand 510P
Answer: OK. here's the low down on the down low; direct from Pur's website as of 10-13-18 -- 3-stage BLUE cartridge MineralClear The easy-to-change replacement filter fits any PUR Faucet Filtration System to provide up to three months of clean, delicious water. Created with MAXION® filter technology, this filter reduces over 70 contaminants while its MineralClear® design filters water over natural minerals for a fresh taste. Specifications: Each filter provides up to 100 gallons of filtered water Certified to remove 99% of Lead, 96% of Mercury and 92% of certain Pesticides -- 2-stage WHITE cartridge BASIC. The PUR Basic Replacement Filter fits any PUR Faucet Filtration System to provide up to three months of healthy, great-tasting water straight from your faucet. Crafted with MAXION® filter technology, this filter reduces over 70 contaminants and reduces the taste and odor of Chlorine. Specifications: Each filter provides up to 100 gallons of filtered water Certified to remove 99% of Lead, 96% of Mercury and 92% of certain Pesticides -- My Personal thoughts. (IMHO) These small type of filters are all basic & inexpensive water filtering. As opposed to expensive RO or similar home water filters that are bulky and more expensive. These small units offer peace of mind and a better tasting water and hopefully eliminating or reducing harmful chemicals agents. I use it mainly for removing the dreadful smell & taste of chlorine. If it removes other "bad" stuff the better. IMO they both remove the same harmful contaminants. (lead, mercury, etc.) it will also remove minerals & chemical agents that are NOT considered *harmful and not *essential. *mineral requirements vary. BOTTOM LINE. They are both excellent! BOTH remove the "bad" stuff and the blue MineralClear 3 stage adds some minerals. White Basic is less expensive. For me, it all depends on which one taste better & that's a matter of taste..(pun intended) I keep both and sometimes I swear one taste better than the other.................... lol.. Perhaps it has to do with my own municipal water supply.

Custom Engineered Brass Cap Reduces Leaks

The key to the durability of the Beech Lane replacement valve is the custom brass end cap. While other replacements use a cheap plastic end cap, the brass cap ensures that freezing temperatures and trapped water won't crack the cap to cause the dreaded toilet leak.

Durable Upgraded Polymer Construction

With an upgraded polymer construction, this valve was re engineered to be crack resistant and perform in a variety of temperatures.

Stop dealing with the headaches of constantly replacing cheap valves that are prone to breaking!

High Performance In Freezing Conditions

One of the biggest issues with the current stock valves and replacements on the market is their inability to perform in freezing conditions. All it takes is a little water left in the valve that freezes, expands, and cracks the valve causing it to leak.

The Beech Lane replacement valve has been tested in freezing conditions for high performance.

Leak-Free Design

Tired of dealing with a mess when you find the toilet leak has damaged your RV? A freeze resistant polymer blend, ultrasonic welding on vulnerable seams, and durable construction all work to give high performance to the Beech Lane valve.

Improved Valve Lifespan

Stop the headaches on the road of buying a cheap replacement, installing it, and having to repeat after every winter. The Beech Lane replacement valve features an improved valve lifespan. Kick back, relax, and enjoy life on the road instead of worrying about your rig flooding from that pesky toilet valve leak.
