The key to success with marble is the SOFTEST pad possible to start with, (White) for polishing, and if necessary for dirty marble/stone, try beige. However, the SAFE BET is to start with white, and see if it accomplishes the desired result. Too aggressive and you damage the stone. Answer:	laundry detergent is activated at 70 degrees F; 70 degrees F is a cold wash Depending where you live, tap water may or may not be 70 degrees. Most machines don't actually heat the water or measure the temp, they just take it from your hot valve for hot, your cold valve for cold and both for warm. According to machine manufacturers, 70F is cold, 80F is warm. If you have a miele, or something similary, you might be able to choose the actual temp. Otherwise, if you live up north, I don't think you really want to use cold or tap settings. I hope this helps.
