10 best spirometers
Spirometers are medical devices used to measure lung function, specifically the volume and flow of air that a person can inhale and exhale. These devices play a crucial role in assessing and monitoring respiratory health. While spirometers are not directly related to blood glucose monitors or diabetes care, they are vital tools in managing conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and other respiratory disorders. Here are some key points about spirometers:
Functionality:
- Spirometers measure lung capacity and airflow. The primary parameters include Forced Vital Capacity (FVC), Forced Expiratory Volume in one second (FEV1), and Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF).
- FVC is the maximum amount of air a person can exhale forcefully after a deep inhalation.
- FEV1 measures the volume of air expelled in the first second of the FVC test.
- PEF is the maximum speed of expiration during a forced breath.
Diagnostic Use:
- Spirometry is commonly used in diagnosing and monitoring respiratory conditions.
- It helps healthcare professionals assess the severity of lung diseases, track disease progression, and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
Home Spirometers:
- Some spirometers are designed for home use, enabling individuals with chronic respiratory conditions to monitor their lung function regularly.
- Home spirometers are often recommended for those with conditions like asthma to aid in self-management.
Components:
- Spirometers typically consist of a mouthpiece or a face mask, a measurement device, and a display screen.
- Electronic spirometers can provide real-time data and may store results for later review by healthcare providers.
Benefits for Respiratory Management:
- Spirometry is valuable for developing personalized treatment plans for respiratory patients.
- Regular spirometric assessments can help identify changes in lung function early, allowing for timely intervention.
It's important to note that while spirometers are powerful tools in respiratory care, they are not directly linked to blood glucose monitors or diabetes management, which focuses on monitoring and regulating blood sugar levels. If you have specific health concerns or conditions, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice and guidance.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is different about 2020 version vs other product being sold and which is better |
Answer: | I don't know what other product you are talking about but as far as incentive spirometers go they should all be able to do the same thing. I don't think one is better than the other they all work by the same principle. |
Question: | Is the bottom cover (the piece that is underneath the unit) made of plastic or cardboard |
Answer: | The bottom cover is made of hard plastic. |
Question: | Since this is not Amazon prime can it be returned if it is damaged |
Answer: | I think so within a month |
Question: | Why is best on the bottom not the top on the yellow indicator |
Answer: | The placement is a little confusing, but the yellow indicator is supposed to help with the steadiness of your inhalation; too slow causes the piece to stay low (below "best", but too fast will cause the piece to rise higher (where "good" and "better" meet). By the looks of it, you want to be able to get the piece to hover between "best" and "better." In a way, it's strength training for your lungs, much like weight training - if you perform a bicep curl too quickly, the muscle fibers won't get the chance to register the load and changes in length, and you'll probably be very sore the next day...but move too slowly and you'll tire yourself out before your body can truly make any significant physical changes. |
Question: | can i refill these canasters |
Answer: | Hello This item is not refillable... Sincerely; Customer Service |
Question: | can these be refilled or is it one time use only |
Answer: | Yes they make an adapter to use on a bigger propane tank and refill these smaller ones.. The picture shows 16oz can. You can get these at wal-mart for $6.24 for 2 can 16.4oz.adapter: https://smile.amazon.com/DozyAnt-Regulator-Propane-Adapter-Cylinder/dp/B00VVNGW5C/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1493610792&sr=8-4&keywords=propane+refill+adapter |
Question: | How do you dispose of them |
Answer: | Take them to a very rural location and shoot them from at least 200 yards away with a centerfire rifle. Any scraps found are recyclable steel.Seriously, you can use the green plastic key that comes with them to completely drain them by removing the valve core, and they are recyclable at some centers. You may have to call a few to find one scrap yard or recycle center that takes them. If you have a lot, metal scrappers will probably come pick them up for you for free. You can also buy an adapter for the large white propane tanks, to use in filling the little green tanks. Look on Y ou tub e for videos. You can refill white tanks or exchange them at gas stations, hardware, and propane tank companies. You can fill the green tanks in your back yard, but be careful to assure good ventilation , a spark free environment, and to not freeze your fingers. |
Question: | Are these gold plated sterling bottles? Since you can buy this 2 pack at Walmart for |
Answer: | Good question. I will carefully search the canisters for AU. Since Amazon is $4 higher then Wal-Mart, there would have to be .003 oz of 99.9 percent gold to be equal in price.Bill |

User questions & answers
Question: | Which one is better between this and 1 ball (Voldyne |
Answer: | This unit uses progressively more resistance. You're directed to inhale so the blue ball is at the top, then wait a second before increasing the air intake until the yellow ball is at the top., then ditto for the red ball. I find the increasing resistance is beneficial. I don't know anything about the Voldyne 5000. |
Question: | will this help oxygen levels, my oxygen level drops after walking & I want to build up my oxygen levels |
Answer: | It seems to have helped me. It will give you an accurate idea of how deeply you can breathe and if you are getting the stale air out. For the price, you can't beat it! |
Question: | is this for inhale and exhale? Thank you in advance for your assistance |
Answer: | Inhale only. |
Question: | to be clear this is to measure lung capacity not build it. this machine has no resistance. isn't it just a home pulmonary function test |
Answer: | To exercise properly, you should not try to max out the 3 balls faster, but EACH ball should take at least 1 second to rise to the top.The 3 chambers have inhalation rates inscribed on them- 600, 900 and 1200 cc/sec. This means if the first ball is suspended in the air for 1 second, inhalation is 600cc of air and so on for all the 3 balls. Taking one second for each ball, total inhaled volume will be 2700cc or 2.7 liter. Inspiratory capacity for healthy adults is 2.4 liter to 3.5 liter, so this device is sufficiently designed to exercise as well as measure your breath |

User questions & answers
Question: | Volume what is the max volume of this device |
Answer: | The maximum volume is 5000. |
Question: | Do you remove your lips from the mouthpiece when you are exhaling |
Answer: | That would be fine but can just exhale through your nose |
Question: | What is the normal number |
Answer: | The directions have two tables, one for male, one for female. They have height across the top from 58" to 78" and age along the left side from 20 to 80. The normal volumes range from 1250m for a short 80 year old male to a high of 4000m for a tall 20 year old male. Females range from 1300m to 3500m for the same ages and heights. If you know your height and age, you can determine your personal normal capacity. |
Question: | I would love to see the directions. My nurse gave me one of these and I am still in the hospital. I am confused about the good/better/best meter |
Answer: | I believe that the good/better/best meter is where you should keep the meter while you are breathing and measuring your air volume. Instead of a powerful intake or exhale, or a very weak intake or exhale, keep the meter as close as you are able to the" best" level while using the exerciser. Or ask your nurse for instructions. Mine never worked and I discarded it. |
