Maybe you purchased in the middle of summer and the test strip were exposed to high temperatures, I assume your hands were clean with soap and water and not a hand sanitizer. Currently the meter is basically free. I buy the kit for the 100 test strips and two spare batteries, extra lancing device and lancets

Warm Tips to Get an Accurate Testing Result:

1. Before blood collection, wash your hands with warm water or neutral soap and rub the finger for blood collection repeatedly until the blood volume is rich.

2. You could disinfect finger abdomen with 75% alcohol, collect blood after alcohol evaporated.

3. Before each test, make sure that the surface of strip is free from moisture or other contamination, and avoid touching the blood sampling area of the strip.

4. Close the cap of the vial immediately after taking out the strip. It is best to use the strip within 3 minutes of taking it out.

5. After the blood drop is formed, wipe off the first drop, collect the subsequent one to test.

6. Make sure enough blood is collected at one time, don't add blood for a second time.

7. If it didn't bleed after pricking your finger, or the blood is insufficient, it is best to hang your hand naturally and wait for 5 seconds. If necessary, squeeze from the center of the palm to the fingertips. Do not directly squeeze the fingertips. Or adjust the depth of the lancing device to collect blood again.

8. Take turns to collect blood from different fingers. Blood collection on the ventral side of the finger is not only less painful, but also adequate.

Answer:	I had called Zoetis (AlphaTracII maker) to inquire about setting the code. In the course of our conversation it was emphasized that at the time each set of test strips is manufactured a code is given that must be entered into the AlphaTracII and that this number will appear at the time the device is turned on—if not you need to go through the whole process of using the test glucose drops to reset (as you must do with each new batch of test strips as that code will be different) I would not use any other brand as it would give you a false reading—you could end up with a very sick or dead dog/cat. Call Zoetis yourself to talk to their experts if you want a technical explanation. Good luck—this monitor has enabled me to do glucose readings at home and relay the info to my vet especially valuable when my dog has vomited following his meal and insulin injection. Have also done glucose curve readings at home thus saving the $$ that an all day stay at the vet would cost for the same testing.

Answer:	Whether something is priced too high is of course relative, but Walmart does sell these for $17.88 per 100 pack, $9.00 for a 50ct and $5 for a 25ct. These are prices on their website and in their stores as of March 06,2019; I went to buy them and only checked Amazon because my local store was out of stock. I have been buying and using these strips for over 5 years and those have been the prices at Walmart as long as I can recall. I live in central Texas, so regional adjustments may allow for difference in other areas.

Wash and dry your hands before starting

1.Washing with warm soapy water can effectively prevent infection and remove sugary impurities on the fingers that affect the accuracy of the results.

2.Select the position of the fingertip filled with blood and wipe the puncture site for about 20 seconds. This way bleeding is easier and pain is less.

3. Clean the puncture site using cotton moistened with 70% alcohol and let it air dry

4. Press the lancing device's tip firmly against the lower side of your fingertip.Press the release button to prick your finger, then a click indicates that the puncture is complete.

5. Gently apply the blood on the absorption hole of the test strip at an oblique angle. After applying enough blood sample, do not move your fingers until you hear the beep.

6. The result of your blood glucose test will appear after the meter counts down to 0. and 5 second reaction time.The blood glucose result will be stored in the memory automatically.

The "gold" one is plated....so I would not wear it every day....especially if you tend to always run into things or scrape it on the desk, wall, etc, the outer parts of the watch that take abuse will fade along the band. I recommend it for special occasions or get a leather band. Look at your current watch and see where you have dings, scrapes, scratches. Etc....
