14 best lilac essential oils
Lilac essential oil is a fragrant oil extracted from the blossoms of the lilac plant, scientifically known as Syringa vulgaris. While lilac essential oil isn't as common or well-known as some other essential oils, it has its own unique properties and uses in aromatherapy and alternative medicine. Here is some information about lilac essential oil:
Aroma: Lilac essential oil is prized for its sweet, floral, and slightly woody aroma. Its delightful scent makes it a popular choice in perfumes and aromatherapy.
Extraction: Lilac essential oil is typically extracted from lilac flowers through a process called steam distillation. This method involves using steam to release the aromatic compounds from the flowers.
Aromatherapy: Lilac essential oil is often used in aromatherapy for its soothing and calming properties. Inhaling the scent of lilac oil may help reduce stress, anxiety, and promote relaxation.
Fragrance: Many people use lilac essential oil to add a pleasant fragrance to their homes. It can be diffused in an essential oil diffuser or mixed with a carrier oil and applied as a natural perfume.
Skin Care: Some individuals use diluted lilac essential oil in skincare routines. It's important to note that essential oils are highly concentrated and should be diluted with a carrier oil before applying to the skin. Lilac oil may be added to creams, lotions, or bath products for its fragrance.
Emotional Benefits: Lilac essential oil is sometimes associated with emotional healing and nostalgia. Its scent can evoke memories and positive emotions for some individuals.
Limited Availability: It's important to mention that lilac essential oil is not as readily available as more common essential oils like lavender or tea tree. The production of lilac essential oil can be limited, and it may be challenging to find pure, high-quality sources.
Caution: As with all essential oils, lilac essential oil should be used with caution. It's crucial to follow proper dilution guidelines and consult with a qualified aromatherapist or healthcare professional before using it, especially if you have any underlying health conditions or sensitivities.
In summary, lilac essential oil is valued for its pleasant aroma and potential therapeutic benefits in aromatherapy. However, due to its limited availability and relatively low familiarity, it may not be as commonly used as some other essential oils. If you decide to explore lilac essential oil for its fragrance or potential therapeutic uses, ensure that you acquire a high-quality, pure product and use it safely and responsibly.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work on wool dryer balls |
Answer: | This particular brand of oil is overwhelmingly strong. It is not a clean lilac smelling oil. I would not use it anywhere close to a dryer or my clothes. That said, if you still choose to try it, use only a single drop. I'm not at all sure how it will work for wool. Use with caution. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this an actual pure and all natural and undiluted essential oil? Or does it have additives and such |
Answer: | No this is not a pure essential oil. This is a synthetic fragrance oil. |
Question: | Is this an essential oil or a perfume oil |
Answer: | This is a "fragrance" oil, not an essential oil. Used for perfume, soap, etc. I have searched and searched ... there is no "essential" oil for scents like lilac, lotus blossom, etc. Big difference between essential & fragrance oils! Use this for perfumes, scent pots, soaps, etc for the scent |
Question: | What’s the burning point? I want to put this in my wax warmer bowl instead of using wax melts. (Supposedly it’s more economical |
Answer: | I don't know what the burning point is as I am not a chemist, but I can tell you that you can add the essential oil to your wax warmer bowl. I have been doing this for a couple of years now. Make sure that you add some water to the oil though or it will be way to strong and will get a funky smell after a while. I usually do about 3 tablespoons of water to 10 drops of oils |
Question: | Can i sprinkle this liquid on wool dryer balls? would that cause fire |
Answer: | Sounds like a great idea,. I can't vouch for the safety, . But I would let the dryer balls absorb the oil well and don't use too much. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many pounds of wax (for candles) will this treat |
Answer: | I use it in soaps and a quarter of the bottle does over 5 pounds. Hope that helps. |
Question: | Does this work for soy candle making |
Answer: | I have used it for soy candles and it works well |
Question: | How many drops of oil to water in an electric warmer |
Answer: | It depends on your room size, how little fragrance you want or if you want a lot of fragrance. I happen to LOVE lilacs. I even dab a little on for perfume. But start with 2-3 drops. You’ll be able to dial it in after that. Good luck! Enjoy it!!! |
Question: | Is this is a pure oil that can be used in an electric water-filled diffuser? The information is vague |
Answer: | The front of my bottle says it’s a “premium fragrance oil”. The back says uses are: “soaps, lotions, butters, candles, bath salts, incense, perfumes, massage and body oils, aroma diffusion, bathing.” I don’t use diffusers...but it sounds like you can. |
- Use as an everyday scent in DIY candles, diffusers, handmade soap, body care products, slime, and more.
- Can also be blended with other fragrances to diffuse for home fragrance, custom fragrances, bath bombs & more

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it water based |
Answer: | Doesn't say |
Question: | Is this synthetic? What are the ingredients |
Answer: | It doesn't say and it doesn't list the ingredients. I only use it in my diffuser, so I don't worry as much as oils I apply to the skin. Sorry I couldn't be of more help! |
Question: | Does the 30ml bottle have the euro dropper cap |
Answer: | No it does not. I do have other brand that has it. The only difference is without it, you need to exert little more to have the drops exit bottle. |
- 6 - 10ml glass amber bottles with easy dispensing euro dropper (dropper inset in bottle) caps. 10ml = .33oz. Please see Product description for a listing of all oils included in this set.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it safe to be used in a room where cats sleep |
Answer: | yes |
Question: | Do you use these with a heating or reed diffuser? thanks |
Answer: | I use them in a mist humidifier or an aroma diffuser, they are small bottles with essential oils so I place a few drops in the water for the mist humidifier and the smell is great. I love all the scents in this collection. |
Question: | Are these essential oils, or just oils mixed with synthetic fragrances |
Answer: | here's what the company's site says, "Is Fragrance Oil a natural product? The short answer is no. Though many fragrance oil formulations will include natural ingredients, they are, generally speaking, mostly synthetic." |
Question: | Is it 100% natural |
Answer: | Does not say 100% on packaging but you could check out www.pandjtrading.com - San Clemente, Ca 92672....that is info from the bottle, hope it helps. I love this product. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what are the ingredients |
Answer: | lilac essential oil. that's it. |
Question: | Does this actually smell like lilac |
Answer: | Yes, it does. The scent doesn't last as long as I wish it would, though. Perhaps because lilac flowers are so fragile. When purchasing essential oils, it's important to ensure that only pure essential oils are purchased, without added oils (e.g., sesame), which dilute the essential oil. The pure oils are more expensive, but worth it in the long run. |
Question: | The back of labels aren't clear, but on the geranium label, i see the word rose, and can read eucalyptus on others. are these 100% undiluted |
Answer: | I didn't purchase the geranium, but they don't dilute their products. I wrote a review on the lilac they make, which I love. |
Question: | synthetic or pure essential oil |
Answer: | It says it is pure but I highly highly doubt this- smells and feels ( on my sensitive skin) synthetic to me - I was too lazy to return it but I was disappointed... apparently it’s very difficult to get the essence of lilac without killing it for some reason |

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone used this fragrance, diluted with alcohol, to make their own spray cologne |
Answer: | I feel it could |
Question: | can it be applied as perfume |
Answer: | Not straight, but with vodka for liquid perfume, or with melted coconut oil for solid perfume. Works very nicely. |
Question: | What are the ingridents |
Answer: | Squished lilacs. ;P But even that means it's got many chemical compounds in it. (Like lavender oil, for example, has over 128 chemical compounds in it including linalool, perillyl alcohol, linalyl acetate, camphor, limonene, tannins, triterpenes, coumarins3,4,5, cineole, and flavonoids.) What I find online that is in lilac oil: Lilac aldehyde. Lilac aldehyde B. Lilac aldehyde A. 2-(5-ethenyl-5-methyloxolan-2-yl)propanal. 2-(5-Methyl-5-vinyltetrahydro-2-furanyl)propanal. 67920-63-2. (+/-)-2-(5-Methyl-5-vinyltetrahydrofuran-2-yl)propionaldehyde. 2-(5-methyl-5-vinyltetrahydrofuran-2-yl)propanal. |
Question: | is this oil alcohal based |
Answer: | No, no, no. I swear this is like smelling THE REAL BUSH outside your window. I used to grow lilacs and "chemicals added" would ruin the "sweet alive" fresh scent. J AND P ARE THE GREATEST, I SWEAR, you will NOT be disappointed in their products. It's like you grew the plants in your backyard and they distilled themselves. I use these oils EXCLUSIVELY for my scents because you can't get better than to SMELL LIKE THE FRESH PLANT!! Hope this helps. |

Question: | Where can I find the ingredients for each bottle |
Answer: | Unfortunately, no ingredients are listed on the bottle or the box the bottles come with. I'm sure if you contacted the seller or go to www.barnhouseblue.com, you can find the information you need from either or. I hope this helps! |
Question: | Any good for bath bombs |
Answer: | Not sure about bath bombs, but these aren't essential oils they are fragrance oils |
Question: | Can these be used in cool mist diffusers? Has anyone done this opinions vary as this is fragrance oil not essential oil |
Answer: | Yes, they diffuse beautifully. This is exactly why I purchased these and use them for this all the time. Of course they don’t have the health benefits of essential oils but if you’re diffusing for scent then they work great. Use 7-10 drops, much like you would for essential oil to he water. The scent is lovely. |
Question: | Are these 100% pure |
Answer: | Hello , they are a blend of essential oils and synthetic , they are not 100 percent natural , Hope this helps =) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used in a tea light oil warmer |
Answer: | I don’t see why not. It’s just highly scent oils. I used it with many things such as white vinegar to wash bathrooms or tile floors or with hydrogen peroxide to spray in mattresses. To not on,y clean but to scent. I’ve never use it in a tea light warmer, but I wouldn’t be afraid to. |
Question: | Can you use for back rubs |
Answer: | It’s just oil, so I guess so. I get it on my hands and Rub it in so it’s never caused me any problems |
Question: | Can you use this in a aromatherapy diffuser |
Answer: | Yes, yo can. I've used it in mine with no problems. I've also used it on clay pendants, light-bulbs, (just 1 drop on a light bulb & when the lamp is turned on, the scent fills the room). One thing to keep in mind is that this is Fragrance Oil, not Essential Oil, which basically means it's in some kind of carrier oil, so it will have an oily feel and you will likely use more of this oil than you would with Essential Oil ... I don't know what kind of diffuser you have, but this company's fragrance oils work great in mine. Hope you try it, this company has a wide range of scents and I haven't found one I don't like yet! (The Plumeria is also quite nice!) :) |
Question: | What are the ingredients listed on the bottle |
Answer: | There are no ingredients listed on the bottle. It does give a web address: www.eternalessenceoils.com. It also says for external use only. I love this scent. I used one tsp. to one pound of melt and pour soap. After more than a month, it still has a strong scent which makes my bathroom smell so good. My hands have a light scent of lilacs after washing, too. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can they be used to make soy candles |
Answer: | Not sure about soy I used them to make milk carton candles using paraffin wax. |
Question: | Are they natural |
Answer: | I don’t think so. I personally think there are some good scents in the bunch & so very not natural ones. I can’t imagine anything that has a chemically type undertone to some smells being “natural”. Don’t get wrong I use them mixed in my warmer & smells good. However, I wouldn’t put them in anything I make & sell. |
Question: | What oils make up the ocean breeze |
Answer: | Peppermint and Eucalyptus |
Question: | Can these be used on the skin |
Answer: | When you read the description for this product its says "...Perfect for Baths, Body and Hair Care, Homemade Lotions, Candles, Candle Wax, Soy Wax, Soap Base, Perfumes, Cleaning,..." I would take this to mean that you need to dilute the product in a carrier oil, lotion or other base carrier product. Here is what I found on their website. -Good Essential offers Fragrance Oils specifically formulated to be suitable for addition to soaps, candles, and both skin & hair care formulations. Our scents are rich, complex, and long lasting. Each Good Essential Fragrance Oil can be used individually or blended with additional fragrance oils to create a new scent.- If you purchase and decide to use it undiluted, do a patch test on your skin first. |

These flowers can come in different colors, such as purple, lavender, red, pink, creamy yellow and white. The plant can grow between 5 and 15 feet tall. User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used in a diffuser |
Answer: | It can, but I don't recommend it. I tried it in my diffuser and it smelled awful, synthetic and overpowering. Had to shut it off after a few minutes. I'm hoping it's better when blended with other oils in DIY lotion and shower gel. |
Question: | I’m confused - if the flowers cannot be distilled for essential oil as this says below - how is this made And what are the ingredients |
Answer: | I'm not sure, but boy, do I love the smell of this oil! I put it in my essential oil necklace and it last way over a week. |
Question: | Can this Lilac Flower Oil be used in soap making |
Answer: | Yes, lilac flower oil can be used in soap making. |
Question: | Is this undiluted |
Answer: | Yes, it is undiluted. |
