It includes scenarios that gradually introduce players to its new mechanics, making it suitable for both novice and experienced players.
Extensions: In addition to these major expansions, Catan also offers extension sets that can be combined with the base game or other expansions to create larger and more complex scenarios. These extensions often add new map layouts, special rules, and components.
Promotional Expansions: Over the years, various promotional expansions and mini-expansions have been released as part of special events, tournaments, or in collaboration with other companies. These expansions may offer unique rules or components not found in the standard expansions.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there an easy way to tell which pieces belong to which set (for ease of separating the two afterwards, if I want to go back to 3-4 people again |
Answer: | This set can play against each other as two 30 card decks to help new players learn the game, or you can combine them to make a 60 card deck to play against other 60 card decks. If they want to combine the cards and play against another deck, I would recommend getting a theme deck such as Luminous Frost, Roaring Heat, or Forest Shadow. Otherwise, this kit can stand on its own. Have fun! |
Question: | Have you tried this with 4 players and found that it makes the game more enjoyable (less crowded board, less spacing conflicts |
Answer: | The packs I purchased from this seller were legit. |
Question: | My base Catan is the 3rd edition (off-white box, with red sides and the crest in the upper left). Will this expansion work with the 3rd edition |
Answer: | sleeved packs |
Question: | Will the extension work for the expansions as well? say i wanted to add more player to seafarers |
Answer: | Our pokemon card binder is waterproof on the outside, easy to carry, and very suitable as a gift for kids. |

Question: | Will this work with 3rd Ed. base & cities and knights? Also, the 4th photo has a ton pieces past the ships & hexes ... is that a different set |
Answer: | Say you want to play seafarers with 5-6 players. You'll need:Catan base setcatan 5-6 player extensioncatan seafarers expansioncatan seafarers explansion 5-6 player extension. |
Question: | Will this match/fit the 5th edition of Catan |
Answer: | Depends on price. Preselected promos like these have lower Values then the more rare cards randomly put in booster packs. But you dont buy a trainer set for collecting. The point of a trainer deck is to get a playable, simple pokemon game going between 2 people, each with a 30 card deck. Standard decks are 60 cards, so these are modified rules to make it quick and easy for new or young players. You could buy 2 if these, then combine each 30 card deck to make 2x 60 card decks for a full / regular pokemon game. These starters are great for either option. |
Question: | do the tiles fit and look like they can match with the 4th edition tiles? i know the look of each edition has varied greatly until now |
Answer: | yes these are decks ready to play so there are repeats. |
Question: | Better in the opinion of those experienced, Seafarers or Cities & Knights |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this compatible with basic catan 5th edition? or is there basic catan: cities & knights for 4 player version |
Answer: | Yes. This is the 5th Edition. |
Question: | Will this come new and wrapped in cellophane? It is a gift. Thank you |
Answer: | Peter,Thank you for your inquiry! For these versions there will be slight differences in appearance but for the Seafarer's Settlers gameplay is not affected between the 3rd and 4th editions. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any more questions. Thank you for your time. Have a great day! |
Question: | So i have the original game. i want to play cities and knights. can i buy the expansion without the 5-6 expansion |
Answer: | My wife and I always enjoy a good Catan gathering. We have the whole collection of base games with their 5-6 player extensions and while I highly recommend getting BOTH, here is what we found about Seafarers vs C&K: Seafarers is enjoyed most by "right brain" players whose talents are more on the creative side of things. Not often is your initial strategy followed through by the end game. Seafarers features some large maps that rewards travel and improvisation; where you place your first settlements isn't as important as how well you branch out and avoid the pirate. Cities and Knights is enjoyed most by "left brain" players whose talents are analytical and strategic. Where you place your first settlement and first city greatly influences the rest of the game. C&K is played on the smaller standard island and rewards those who plan ahead. Matches are more confrontational, and a player who changes their strategy mid-game rarely wins. Both Seafarers and C&K feel "very Catan," so if you like the original you really can't go wrong with either. I like C&K more, but barely. However I recommend choosing first Seafarers if you're coming from the original. Interestingly both rules manuals show how to combine it all together! As for the 5-6 extensions: Seafarers is definitely better. The maps are something to behold :) just be sure to have a lot of table space! C&K is already a long game, so having 6 people really drew things out to the point where the game wore out it's welcome. |
Question: | The listing says it is 4th edition, but the picture is of the 5th edition. Which is it |
Answer: | An easy way my family has always done it is, after opening the expansion pack (or determining what is part of the expansion pack if you have already opened it) is we put a small E on the back of the expansion pack pieces, and then keep them in a separate package as well. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many players total can play |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Does this package come with two seperate boxes - original and expansion, or is it combined in to one set |
Answer: | If you have the traders and barbarians you can with the original Catan. The extension adds two more players |
Question: | Who manufacturers this game |
Answer: | Lisa, yes, the rules for the 2-player variant is Catan Traders & Barbarians 2-4 player expansion (although the product you are viewing the 5-6 player expansion of T&B). The rules start on page 6 of http://www.catan.com/files/downloads/tab_rules_051908.pdf. The "chits" that are needed are in the Seafearers 3-4 Player expansion, Seafarers 5-6 Player expansion, or Traders & Barbarians 2-4 player expansion. |
Question: | lol why is this more expensive then if you purchase catan and the expansion separately |
Answer: | You have to have the Catan basic and the Catan basic Extension for 5-6 players PLUS Cities and Knights EXPANSION and the 5-6 player EXTENSION. If you go to the Catan website they have a flow chart, I believe. For every Expansion, you need the base game and for every extension you need the base extension plus the expansion. There are some stand alone games, but they are usually only 3-4 player and have no extensions, like Star Trek Catan. Hope that helps. |
