12 best instant flour
Instant flour is a type of wheat flour that has been pre-cooked and then dried to create a fine, powdery texture. It is often used in cooking and baking to quickly thicken sauces, gravies, and soups, as well as to create smooth, lump-free mixtures.
Here are some key points about instant flour:
Pre-cooked and Dried: Instant flour is made from wheat flour that has been partially cooked through a process called extrusion cooking. After cooking, it is rapidly dried to remove moisture and create a fine powder.
Instant Thickening: Instant flour is known for its ability to thicken liquids almost instantly when mixed in.This makes it a convenient choice for thickening sauces and gravies without the need for lengthy cooking times.
Smooth Texture: Instant flour has a fine texture, which helps prevent lumps from forming when added to liquids. It can be easily incorporated into recipes without clumping.
Versatile: It is a versatile ingredient used in a variety of culinary applications. Besides thickening, it can be used as a coating for frying foods like fried chicken or fish to create a crispy texture.
Convenience: Instant flour is especially useful in busy kitchens where chefs or home cooks need to quickly adjust the consistency of a dish. Its instant thickening properties can save time during cooking.
Storage: Like other flours, instant flour should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to maintain its shelf life and prevent moisture absorption.
Substitutes: If you don't have instant flour on hand, you can often substitute it with regular all-purpose flour or cornstarch, but the thickening process may take longer.
Overall, instant flour is a handy ingredient in the kitchen, particularly for those who want to achieve quick and smooth thickening in their recipes without the hassle of prolonged cooking times.

Question: | What is the difference between instant ClearJel and cornstarch |
Answer: | From the King Arthur website... Cornstarch has the most holding power for its weight, but lends a cloudy, semi-transparent look to filling. Some people can detect a "chalky, floury" taste, as well.Modified food starch (Instant ClearJel) has plenty of thickening power, and will keep fillings thick through a great range of temperatures. ClearJel works well with pies that will be frozen after baking, then thawed, as it won't break down when frozen/thawed, like other starches. It gives a hazy, semi-translucent look to filling. |
Question: | How does clear jel compare to signature secrets, which has been discontinued, when used in making gravies |
Answer: | The manufacturers tells us the are interchangeable. I hope that helps! |
