12 best stuffed grape leaves
Stuffed grape leaves, also known as dolmas or dolmades, are a popular Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dish made by wrapping seasoned rice and/or ground meat in grape leaves. These flavorful and savory treats are often served as appetizers or as part of a larger meal. Here's what you need to know about them:
Ingredients:
Grape Leaves: The leaves used for stuffing are typically young and tender grape leaves, which are blanched to soften them before being filled.
Filling: The filling can vary but commonly consists of a mixture of rice, onions, herbs like dill and mint, and sometimes ground meat, such as lamb or beef. Vegetarian versions use rice and a mix of vegetables and spices.
Spices and Seasonings: Stuffed grape leaves are seasoned with a blend of spices, including black pepper, allspice, and sometimes cinnamon, which imparts a unique flavor to the dish.
Liquid: Water or broth is added to the pot to cook the stuffed grape leaves, and sometimes lemon juice is included for a tangy flavor.
Olive Oil: Olive oil is often drizzled over the stuffed grape leaves before cooking to add richness and moisture.
Cooking Process:
Preparing the Leaves: The grape leaves are blanched briefly to soften them, making them easier to roll.
Making the Filling: The filling mixture is prepared by combining rice, minced onions, herbs, spices, and sometimes ground meat.
Wrapping: A spoonful of the filling is placed in the center of a grape leaf, which is then folded around the filling to create a small, tightly wrapped package.
Layering: The stuffed grape leaves are typically arranged in a pot in tight layers.
Cooking: Water or broth is added to the pot, and the stuffed grape leaves are simmered until the rice is fully cooked and the flavors meld together. Lemon juice and olive oil may be added at this stage.
Serving: Stuffed grape leaves can be served hot or at room temperature and are often accompanied by yogurt or a tahini-based sauce. They can be garnished with additional herbs, a squeeze of lemon juice, or a sprinkle of sumac for extra flavor.
Variations: There are many regional variations of stuffed grape leaves, with different ingredients and seasonings. Some variations are vegetarian, while others incorporate meat. Additionally, the choice of herbs and spices can vary, giving each recipe a unique twist.
Stuffed grape leaves are a delightful and flavorful addition to any Mediterranean or Middle Eastern meal, offering a combination of savory, tangy, and aromatic flavors in a convenient bite-sized package. They are often found in canned, jarred, or packaged form, making them a convenient pantry staple and a popular choice in gourmet food.

Answer: | There is no added sugar in these. Turkish food is mighty fine, and these are better than the nightmares that call themselves Greek but use soybean oil... haha "Original" is not a regulated term - don't be fooled. |
Question: | What are the exact ingredients? Can a picture of the ingredient label be seen anywhere |
Answer: | Go onto Google images, and type in: Ingredients label for Galil Stuffed grape leaves" and you will see it, or copy and paste this link: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81q7mOJHklL._SL1500_.jpg https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81q7mOJHklL._SL1500_.jpg |
Question: | how many are in each individual can |
Answer: | 15 pieces in a 40 ounce can. See nutritional information for count. 5 servings; 3 to a serving. |
Question: | How do these compare taste wise to the Davina brand |
Answer: | Davina and the others are cold tangy sour style which is common in USA. These are warm sweet savory 'homestyle' which is common in like Egypt and stuff. I like these they can be warmed by themselves. Or they pair nice with tahini and bit of sirachi remind me of dolmas french vietnamese have with peanut sauce and chili. They also work cold tossed in bushel fresh mint dice cucumbers tahini olive oil lime maybe some fava beans. Hence some negative reviews because here in states these are just different then people are accustomed like at restaurants and what not. |

Question: | How much salt's in these |
Answer: | These grape leaves don't taste overly salted, however most all products meant to store for months are highly salted. So taste wise: great! ( I'm sensitive to salt) healthwise, if you are trying to limit salt intake: probably should make your own. (That's true for anything out of a can.) |
Question: | Do these contain pine nuts or any other kind of nut? I believe they are made in a facility that processes nuts. Ok if no nuts in the can |
Answer: | Checked the can and it says no nuts in the dolmas. However it is produced in a factory that processes tree nuts. |
Question: | How many are in 1 can |
Answer: | There are 6 in a can and each are about 2" long. |

Question: | where are these made? (country origin |
Answer: | The can/container states they are from BULGARIA not Greece,,,we will pass!! Also this company DIVINA is a sub company of Hormel,,,,again, no thanks, we'll pass and find real Greek Dolamdes. |
Question: | How many are in a can? Having a party for 50 people with other foods of course and need a ball park. thanks |
Answer: | Huh. Hard to say. A LOT. If this is a small side dish for a party of 50, I would play it safe and get four cans. |
Question: | How do I perserve the left over grape leaves, after I open the can |
Answer: | refrigerate in Tupperware. This brand is the same used by deli's and grocery stores. They last a long time I have ordered this size can and brand several times over the last couple of years high quality product. |
