Answer:	The can says seven days once opened. But that a colder temperature may extend it's shelf-life. Do not freeze.

Answer:	Old question, but worth noting there are meals made by Backpacker's Pantry that are absolutely designed for backpacking, just not the large cans. The cans are for food storage, and the little packets are for backpacking. Perhaps they didn't offer the packets back in 2014 when this question was originally answered, but they do now :)
Question:	Why is 1 serving from the 2-serving pouch 300 calories, while 1 serving from the #10 can is only 180 calories
Answer:	I think the #10 can is best for emergencies and you can squeeze out more servings at 180 calories a "serving" (to keep you alive) but for backpackers you get a bigger "serving" with more CALORIES which is important for what you are doing, continuous walking over various terrain carrying a heavy load on your back. In an emergency hopefully you are in one location (home) or not continuously moving (maybe with your car) and with just the clothes on your back and perhaps your rolling go bag; just trying to stay alive. Of course, the pouches work best for the go bag while cans work best for pantry and I keep them in my car trunk. 7 years of heat and cold with my pouches in my go bag and those things were DELICIOUS.

Answer:	The kit has a total of 11520 calories ( all the meals and drinks mixes and deserts), based on a 2000 calories per day For women 5.8 days and 2400 calories per day for men 4.8 days. The calorie consumption should be higher if the day is highly active. That’s $26 per day! For mediocre taste and just as difficult (heat, water and time)to prepare. Military grade MREs are just as bad in terms of taste and price but, in true emergencies are easier to prepare and pack more calories.
