13 best chinese green teas

Chinese green teas are a diverse and popular category of tea known for their delicate flavors, health benefits, and rich cultural history. They are made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant and are minimally processed, which helps to preserve their natural flavors and antioxidants. Here are some key aspects of Chinese green teas:

  1. Varieties: China is the birthplace of tea, and it boasts a wide variety of green teas, each with its own unique flavor profile and processing methods. Some well-known Chinese green teas include Longjing (Dragon Well), Bi Luo Chun, Huangshan Maofeng, and Gunpowder.

  2. Flavor Profiles: Chinese green teas generally have a fresh, grassy, and vegetal flavor with slight variations depending on the specific tea and region. Longjing, for example, has a slightly nutty and sweet flavor, while Bi Luo Chun is known for its fruity and floral notes.

  3. Processing: Chinese green teas are typically pan-fired or roasted to halt oxidation, which gives them their green color and fresh taste. The level of roasting and processing can vary, leading to differences in flavor and appearance.

  4. Caffeine Content: Green tea generally contains less caffeine compared to black tea or coffee, making it a popular choice for those seeking a milder caffeine boost.

  5. Health Benefits: Chinese green teas are often praised for their potential health benefits. They are rich in antioxidants called catechins, which may have various health-promoting properties, including improving heart health and aiding in weight management. Green tea is also associated with mental alertness and relaxation due to the presence of L-theanine.

  6. Brewing: To brew Chinese green tea, it is typically recommended to use water that is not boiling, around 175-185°F (80-85°C). Steep the tea for 2-3 minutes for a light flavor or longer for a stronger taste. The exact brewing parameters may vary depending on the specific tea type and personal preference.

  7. Cultural Significance: Chinese green tea has deep cultural roots and is often an integral part of traditional Chinese ceremonies and hospitality. It is also widely enjoyed in everyday life.

  8. Packaging: Chinese green teas are available in various forms, including loose-leaf tea and tea bags. Loose-leaf teas are generally considered of higher quality as they allow for better flavor preservation.

  9. Storage: To maintain the freshness of Chinese green teas, it is important to store them in a cool, dry place away from light, air, and strong odors. Proper storage can help preserve the tea's flavor and aroma.

Chinese green teas offer a delightful and healthy beverage option with a rich cultural heritage that spans thousands of years. They continue to be a popular choice among tea enthusiasts worldwide.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this similar to the Maria's Tea that people are selling for
Answer: Never had Maria's tea, I can only say this works without fail! Make sure you don't leave the house early the next morning before you go to the restroom... but take the tea in the evening after you've eaten; wouldn't take it later than 10pm. It's a great cleanse.
Question: Does it taste good and does it act as a laxative
Answer: It doesnt have a particularly good tast, its not flavored. It tastes like black tea. If you love tea (like me) you'll enjoy the taste. And OH it acts as a laxative alright. Definitely does. Be ready lol, especially for the first 5 days or so.
Question: Can a teen use this at
Answer: Yes. I had a 14 yr. old nephew use it and it was quite effective. I suggest using only one bag with half the size of a standard coffee cup, drank as hot as you can stand it. Keep near to a bathroom.
Question: What do i fo if i didn't receive the package
Answer: Call amazon. They have the best customer service

Product description

The best Gunpowder Green Tea is Temple of Heaven Brand. It's not only famous in China but also all over the world.Gunpowder Green Tea derives its name from the shape of its finished tea. The very dark green tea leaves have been rolled into little pellets which look like gunpowder to some connoisseurs.Meanwhile people call it Gunpowder Because: The tea is so well curled and tightened which looks like a small ball or pearl; when you put the tea into your hands, you feel it is heavy; when you pour boiling water into the tea, you can see all large tea leaves spreading out immediately just like explosion. Good Gunpowder Tea uses older tea leaves unlike other varieties of green tea. Tea steeped from Gunpowder has a dark golden color, roasted or toasted taste with a strong aftertaste lingering in the front palette, and a strong roasted or toasted aroma. You can also judge the quality of Gunpowder Green by its appearance. The well tightened and curled tea looks like tiny pearl with dark-green shining color. User questions & answers

Question: What it use for
Answer: You boil water, you add the grain "China green tea" until they are "open" boiled ,then add mint leaves if you have it if not add one tea bag ,add honey and enjoy a wonderful hot tea ..
Question: How much should I use to make I gallon
Answer: I use this to make iced tea and hot tea. I'll use a teaspoon full for a cup, usually 6 oz, I'll use 3 Tbsp for half a gallon, so I'd use 6 Tbsp or or about 3 oz measure for a gallon. I don't actually drink it over ice so mine is less strong than how others make it, so go with about 2/3 to 3/4 cup to make yours, adjusting to taste.
Question: What color is it suppose to be after steeping? I am getting a brown/amber color after steeping this tea for 3 minutes at 170 degree F
Answer: Green Tea indicates the color of the unprepared tea. In rare cases the prepared tea is also green: the most notable example being Matcha green tea. Some would say use 140 degrees and two minutes for steeping. But it is really personal preference. I use 160 degrees and 15 minutes for steeping time. On the other hand, there are ways everyone can make a better cup of tea. Here is a link to some of those ideas: https://kevinfitzmaurice.com/lists-and-links/green-tea-pages/green-tea-preparation/
Question: what is "use by date" for this product
Answer: I assume it varies from product to product. I received my box on 8-23-2014 and it says the use-by date is June 2016.

User questions & answers

Question: When the tea arrives is the packaged marked "Organic"? Just want to know if I am really buying Organic
Answer: My 3/2020 package doesn't have "organic" anywhere on it
Question: how strong is the jamine flavor
Answer: Compared to regular Jasmine tea the flavor is strong but you notice the fragrance much more. I don't mind the cost because it's a better cup of tea.
Question: Do the leaves float around and make it difficult to drink with out a strainer
Answer: I've found that almost all of the leaves are heavy enough that they will stay on the bottom. There may be a piece or two of some leaves that float, but not more than that. And these floaters do not bother me at all--just seem tp remind me that this is whole leaf tea and not shredded, flavorless and dead "tea"!
Question: Can you taste the difference between this and supermarket jasmine tea bags
Answer: Oh, yeah, this is one of the freshest, most aromatic jasmines I have tasted in a long time. I can not improve on Zahar Ali's description of the taste of this tea. He is accurate and almost poetic. So my only comment is that this tea reminds me of the teas served in my favorite Chinese restaurant when I was a child.

User questions & answers

Question: After initial open, how to sustain freshness? Air-tight seal
Answer: At first, the traditional paper bags are used as packages because it is also part of the west lake dragonwell green tea culture. Now, the paper bags are replaced by cans and aluminum foil bags because it is found that paper packaging is easy to be damaged, which does not meet the shipping requirements. Whether it is paper or tin packaging, the longjing tea loose leaf package should be tied up and put in the refrigerator for preservation after the seal is opened for each use. In this way, the flavour, color and taste of dragon well green tea can be kept for a longer period of time. If placed in the normal indoor temperature, the green tea is easy to be oxidized, affecting the flavour and taste of longjing green tea. Thank you for your question
Question: The real west lake longjing tea production area, only in zhejiang province, china
Answer: Great question! Not all “Longjing Tea” can be defined as “West Lake Longjing Tea”. In accordance with the Provisions on the Protection of Geographical Indications Products, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China has approved that the current administrative area of Xihu District of Hangzhou (West Lake Scenic Spot) as "West Lake Plantation Area", covering an area of about 168 square kilometers. Accounting for about 10% of the total output of the three major plantation areas. The "Qiantang Plantation Area" and "Yuezhou Production Area" are areas around hangzhou, which cannot be called west lake longjing. The Dragon well Tea produced in "Qiantang Plantation Area" can only be called "Qiantang Longjing Tea" while The Dragon well produced in "Yuezhou Production Area" can only be called "Yuezhou Longjing" Tea ". JQ dragon well tea plantation, located in the mountains near longjing village, xihu district, hangzhou.
Question: Does the box show what year the tea is
Answer: not unless it is in Chinese. On side of package there is something that looks like a date format, but it is in Chinese.
Question: Which production year is the tea? i see "2020 spring tea" and "we only sell 2019 mingqian tea". your clarification would be appreciated
Answer: I purchased this tea two months ago, didn't like it.

Why Drink Tea? From delighting your taste buds to enhancing your health routine.

You probably have your own list of reasons for loving a freshly steeped hot tea on a cold winter's day, or enjoying a glass of refreshing iced tea as a summer treat.

It's no secret that drinking tea regularly may provide a host of benefits. Most tea contains polyphenol catechins, which is a powerful antioxidant. The moderate amount of caffeine in most teas can also give you an early-morning or mid-afternoon boost, and help with concentration.

Why Drink Tea? Antioxidants in Tea

The term 'antioxidants' is frequently thrown around by health enthusiasts—it's become an integral part of nutritional vocabulary, appearing on food labels and in commercials. We all know that antioxidants are good for us, but few people actually understand why.

The Mayo Clinic defines antioxidants as "substances that may protect your cells against the effects of free radicals." Free radicals result from exposure to certain environmental toxins. While it's not always possible to avoid free radicals, consuming foods and beverages high in antioxidants can reduce their impact.

Why Drink Tea? Healthy Diet,Stress Relief

Drinking tea daily may help you to reach your ultimate goal. Tea is naturally calorie-free (unless, of course, you add sugar and cream), which means you don't need to worry about adding liquid calories to your diet.

Face it: today's world is jam-packed with stress. Over time, the stress of simply getting through each day can add up, eventually leading to health problems. An easy way to relieve stress in a matter of minutes: sit down with a nice cup of tea. The act of drinking tea can be calming, making it easier to take a breath and let all your worries float away—or, at least, to calm yourself before moving on with the rest of your day.

Why Drink Tea? A Large Variety of Flavors

Whether you want a pure green or black tea, or you love the zing of peppermint or lemongrass, you’ll find something to please your palate with Teatulia's extensive line of teas.

For many Teatulia lovers, tea is more than just a drink—it's an integral part of their lives. And JQ Tea strives to give tea drinkers the best experience we can, from start to finish. Choosing JQ Tea gives you a chance to drink well.

User questions & answers

Question: How much cafienne is in it
Answer: It doesn't say it's decaffienated so it probably has what other black teas have: 47 mg per cup.
Question: Does This Contain Caffeine
Answer: The box does not say anything about 'caffeine free.' It is a blend of oolong, jasmine and green tea all of which have at least some caffeine.
Question: What are the brewing instructions? Anything unusual
Answer: Nothing unusual - they are just like any other tea bag. It is the only Chinese tea I've found that actually tastes like the tea they serve in many of the Chinese Restaurants - but without the hassle of tea leaves and/or a infuser.
Question: What type of tea is this? Is it black Congou, or oolong tea
Answer: it is supposed to be Oolong but it tastes more like Jasmine tea

BiLuoChun Green Tea

Biluochun is a famous green tea originally grown in the Dongting mountain region near Lake Tai, Jiangsu, China. Also known as Pi Lo Chun, it is renowned for its delicate appearance, fruity taste, floral aroma, showy white hairs and early cropping.

The name Biluochun literally means "Green Snail Spring". It is called so because it is a green tea that is rolled into a tight spiral, resembling snail meat, and is cropped early spring.

Chinese tea experts regard it very highly. Zhen Jun (1857 to 1918 A.D.), author of tea encyclopedia Cha Shuo, ranked it first among Chinese green tea. Longjing tea came second, Liu An Gua Pian came third. It is so delicate and tender that one kilogram of Dongting Bi Luo Chun has 14,000 to 15,000 tea shoots.

Taste:

Pour in the hot water first before putting in the tea leaves. The first infusion is strong and has a lasting aftertaste. Second infusion features a more complex shifting fruity, flowery and nutty notes in the taste.

Brewing Guide:

We recommend using glass-based or porcelain tea ware. Rinse tea cup and teapot with hot water. Use about 2 grams of tea leaves (1-2 teaspoons) for every 150ml of water. Steep tea leaves in hot water at 70°c (158°F) to 80°c (176°F) for 1 minute for the first and second brewing.

Gradually increase steeping time and temperature for subsequent brewing.

Storage:

Protect against the tide, peculiar smell, keeps in low temperature and refrigerates it.
