12 best low acid coffees
Low acid coffees are a specific type of coffee that is processed and roasted in a way that reduces its acidity. Coffee beans naturally contain acids, primarily chlorogenic acids, which contribute to the coffee's flavor profile. However, some individuals may experience digestive discomfort or acid reflux after consuming regular coffee due to its high acidity. In response to this, low acid coffee options have become available in the market.
Here are some key points about low acid coffees:
Processing Methods: Low acid coffees are often made from beans that have undergone special processing methods to reduce their acidity. One common method is known as "smooth" or "mild" processing, which can help reduce the perception of acidity in the coffee.
Roasting Profile: The roasting process also plays a significant role in determining the acidity of coffee. Low acid coffees are typically roasted to a medium or dark roast level, as darker roasts tend to have lower acidity than lighter roasts.
Flavor Profile: Low acid coffees often have a milder and smoother taste compared to their higher acid counterparts. They may be described as having less brightness and a more balanced flavor.
Health Considerations: Some people with sensitive stomachs or acid reflux issues find that low acid coffees are gentler on their digestive systems. However, individual reactions can vary, so it's important to consult with a healthcare professional if you have specific concerns.
Brands and Varieties: Several coffee brands offer low acid coffee options, and these can be found in both ground and whole bean forms. The specific flavor and aroma of low acid coffees can still vary between brands and varieties.
Price: Low acid coffees are often considered specialty products and may be slightly more expensive than regular coffee due to the additional processing and care involved.
It's worth noting that while low acid coffees can be a suitable option for individuals with acidity-related issues, they may not offer the same flavor complexity as high-acid coffees, which are prized for their bright and vibrant flavors. Ultimately, the choice between low acid and regular coffee depends on personal taste preferences and any specific health considerations.

User questions & answers
Question: | How does this differ from the standard Mellow Belly blend |
Answer: | We roast our Mellow Belly DARK longer and to a higher temperature. This imparts a more robust roasted and dark chocolate flavor than the Original. The blend of beans also differs with the addition of a low acid Indonesian coffee that lends a hint of cherry. |
Question: | How does this compare in acidity to the low-acid french roast |
Answer: | I was drinking Trader Joe's low acid french roast and found Lucy Jo's taste to be smoother and more rich. The acid seems extremely low as I've not experienced any acid stomach issues with it |

Small changes in product size & weight lead to lower carbon emissions.
We created Compact by Design to identify products that, while they may not always look very different, have a more efficient design. With the removal of excess air and water, products require less packaging and become more efficient to ship. At scale, these small differences in product size and weight lead to significant carbon emission reductions.
- Fair Trade - USDA Certified Organic - Single Origin - High Altitude. If We Could Make This Coffee Any Healthier We Would! Medium Roast. Also Comes With Free Special Report Called "How To Make The Healthiest Cup Of Coffee"
- Healthy Coffee Rule #1) Always Go Organic. Why? Because conventional coffee is one of the most heavily treated crops. One of the many health risks is that they can act as "xenoestrogens" in your body disrupting balance for both men and women.
- Healthy Coffee Rule #2) Coffee Grown At High Altitude Is Better. Why? Because the higher the altitude the coffee is grown at, the denser the bean. You may have heard the term "Strictly Hard Bean" (SHB) which denotes an especially dense, high-altitude coffee. This Peak Performance Organic Coffee grown in the Guatemalan Highlands is a perfect example of this. This higher elevation bean is more dense and thus of a higher quality grade. High Altitude Coffee also tends to have more antioxidants!
- Healthy Coffee Rule #3) Single Origin Coffee Is Better. Why? Because while "Blended" Coffee like a "Breakfast Blend" might sound cool... there's a much higher likelihood that at least one of the bean varieties that went into that blend was contaminated meaning the entire batch is now contaminated.
- Over 300,000 Happy Customers + 1-for-1 Donation To Vitamins Angels. Peak Performance is celebrating over 300,000 happy customers and we are also very proud of our 1-for-1 donation match program. For every unit you purchase, through our partnership with the nonprofit Vitamin Angels, we will supply a child at risk of malnutrition with vitamins for 1 year! So thank you for helping us continue this great cause!
User questions & answers
Question: | What is the typical amount of time beans are shipped to customers after roasting |
Answer: | Hi Kristy, I apologize for the delayed reply, I did not know this question and answer section existed. I could go on and on about how some folks make money by creating a problem out of nowhere, and then charge for the solution, but instead I will refer you to this article: http://authoritynutrition.com/the-mycotoxins-in-coffee-myth/By "wet process" they are referring to how the coffee fruit is processed at origin, not how it is roasted. All of our coffees are wet processed except for some of our Brazils, and they are absolutely some of my favorite coffees! They are both dry processed and "semi-washed," and as a result are extremely rich and complex. We use it in our Signature Blend to add body and what I refer to as richness (some actually consider this harshness, but most self-proclaimed coffee aficionados love it). The Brazil plays very well with the Colombia in the blend, which has a much milder body character but is sweet, and the Guatemala has considerable depth of flavor, but is very smooth. The Guatemala is shade grown, and our farms in Colombia are Rainforest Certified. All of our other coffees either are or they are not shade grown. We source based on quality first, and _usually_ that criteria automatically includes environmental responsibility (if it doesn't then we address that through our Sharing Certified program). Besides being environmentally friendly, when you grow coffee in the shade, it deprives the plant of sunlight, and the beans take longer to mature. The longer they take, the denser they are, and there is a lot of flavor in that density. Guatemala and Honduras do this best, and the soil in those countries is full of sulfur from the volcanoes, and coffee plants love sulfur, so it's an ideal environmnet. All of our coffees, whether wet or dry processed are roasted for around 20 minutes at temperatures above 400 degrees, then we pack immediately into a high moisture barrier bag. We roast to order, and don't require large minimum orders from our customers. We ship to Amazon every two weeks, so the coffee is super fresh always. I should add that we roast in multiple small batch roasters, and because of this we do not have to "quench" the coffee to cool it, like many/most other bigger brand roasters. When big brand roasters, roast in 2,000 - 5,000 LB batches, water is sprayed on the roasted coffee beans to cool it, so it doesn't continue to roast (and burn) in it's own heat. I actually spoke to an engineer once who retired from a big brand roaster, who said he designed their system to add an ounce of water weight to each can, so they could increase their margins. This was back when they were packing in cans, and he said you could see a ring of rust around the top inside of the can. We would never compromise quality or Food Safety for added profit, and we want only to provide the freshest, best tasting coffee possible to our loyal customers.Hope this helps! Thanks so much for your interest!Darron "Don Pablo" Burke |
Question: | what kind of roast are these beans? light, medium, dark |
Answer: | My Best By date is on the bottom of the box, 2021-05-20 with batch: 1006224276; not black out |
Question: | How is this ground? I am looking for a coarse grind for a french press |
Answer: | Any machine that takes k-pods. |
Question: | Is any testing done in the United States to verify toxin or mold levels, and that the coffee is actually produced without pesticides |
Answer: | The Colombian brew is a medium blend but if you search for "Gevalia Dark" or "Gevalia Bold" that should return some options for you. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is the Rain Forest Alliance logo |
Answer: | On the bag of Java Planet Colombia Organic I bought, the Rainforest Alliance logo is at the lower left corner of the label, above the USDA organic symbol. |
Question: | Does this coffee have the same amount of caffeine as non low acid coffees |
Answer: | I think it’s less acidic because it’s organically grown and roasted so it is naturally less acidic but I think the caffeine content is the same as any coffee. 😃 |
Question: | can i get a rosted date that isn't 2 months old |
Answer: | Complain via Amazon. |
Question: | Which non or low acid coffee has rated best taste |
Answer: | The Colombian Roast is a nice, rich full flavored coffee that is not harsh on the taste buds or the tummy. I suffer from stout stomach issues so I am careful of the brands of coffee I use. Java Planet's Coffees are coffees I don't want to be without, because of the ease on my tummy and also the taste. I would caution anyone; coffee is such an individual thing. What is great to one person may not be to another. I can sing the praises of Java Planet all day, but there will be people out there who think its too weak, or isn't flavorful enough, etc. For a low acidic coffee, organic, Fair Trade and Bird Sanctuary Friendly, you absolutely cannot go wrong giving this one a try. Happy Sipping! |

Question: | I have a reusable kcup coffee holder. is this coffee usable for that in my keurig? roughly how many cups can i brew if i fill the kcup for each cup |
Answer: | I have a Keurig also. I fill the reusable filter pod with Lucy Jo’s coffee. I have one filled cup per day in the morning because I need a low acid alternative and it is very good coffee. It is not low caffeine, but low acid. I have this coffee sent on a regular schedule through a subscription by Amazon, so I don’t run out. I haven’t monitored how many cups I get per bag of coffee. From the one filled coffee pod, I make 2 cups (measured) of coffee. |
Question: | No where is it mentioning the "roast". What is it |
Answer: | Actually, it is right on the front of the bag. The roast is medium dark. |
Question: | Does this coffee come in a larger bag |
Answer: | In the near future we will be offering a larger size on Amazon. |
Question: | What percent lower acid is the low acid coffee |
Answer: | This is a great low-acid coffee from Lucy Jo's. I've been drinking it for two months and haven't had any issues with my hiatal hernia and subsequent heartburn. I've also drunk Lucy Jo's Sumatra, which is even lower in acidity and the taste was excellent, as expected. |

HealthWise Gourmet Coffees use Colombian Arabica Supremo beans exclusively, one of the highest grades of coffee beans available. The company roasts coffee in small batches to ensure quality and consistency. The TechnoRoasting process eliminates acids and irritants, which helps all who suffer from heartburn or stomach conditions exacerbated by acid. Instead of compromising flavor, the process also reduces bitterness and harshness common to other coffee products, which leaves a rich and mellow taste. The same process also protects the original minerals and micro-nutrients from coffee beans that many health-care products leverage. This contrasts with the roasting processes most often used by others, which typically destroys the compounds within coffee beans that offer many health benefits. An additional benefit of this process allows a pot to remain on a burner for hours without becoming increasingly bitter, a common consequence of other roasting methods. Similarly, you can refrigerate HealthWise coffee for up to one week, reheat it to below boiling, and the tast will remain unchanged from the original brewed cup. The total yield from a 12-ounce can, 110 cups, exceeds other brands as well since you do not have to use as many beans to make a full-flavored cup or pot.

- The Kosher-certified and Vatican-endorsed 12-ounce can offers 110 cups of low-acid coffee

Roasting at Puroast It turns out there is a connection between how coffee tastes, how bitter or smooth it is, how much acid it has and it’s antioxidant content, and how the coffee is heated during roasting. Puroast roasts just like they do on the hacienda, unlike any other coffee in the country. That’s why Puroast tastes and makes you feel so good. It’s that simple!
- 70 LESS ACID: Our low acid coffee is perfect for all coffee lovers, especially those with heartburn, acid reflux and other gastrointestinal issues. Whether you like your coffee organic, decaffeinated, french roast or in a k-cup pod, we offer a variety of single serve, whole bean and ground coffee
- 7X HIGHER ANTIOXIDANTS: It turns out there is a connection between antioxidant levels and how coffee is heated during roasting. Published research from UC Davis shows that Puroast coffee has 7X the antioxidants of green tea and 5X the antioxidants of leading coffee brands
- PURE TO THE POUR: From our humble origins in the foothills of the Andes Mountains, Puroast's secret to crafting smooth, rich coffee is rooted in roasting the way that coffee growers do. We roast for quality, not volume, and never use any additives or extractions
- FEEL BETTER, NEVER BITTER: Take on the daily grind with a smooth, aromatic cup of coffee that tastes great and makes you feel good! Our unique roasting method creates a low-acid blend that won't bother your stomach and has no bitter aftertaste. We also use renewable, clean technology to fire our roasters
- QUALITY IN EVERY CUP: Not all coffee is created equal. Our high elevation grown coffee beans are sustainably sourced, kosher and chemical/pesticide free, so you can feel great about what you're drinking while gaining relief from coffee-related digestive issues
- Puroast Coffee's Bienestar roasting process preserves the smooth, rich flavors that coffee growers throughout the world enjoy every day. Discover Puroast Coffee and taste the difference.
