Answer: | I have stored UNOPENED, SEALED 5-pound bags of several different brands of coffee — and this is the important part — in the back of the BOTTOM basket in my freezer successfully (so far!l) for almost seven — that's right SEVEN — YEARS, now. I "Sharpie" the date on each bag upon the start of what may be a long, cold "slumber" in the bowels of my "not-so-cryogenic" freezer, only to choose an "oldie but goodie" from the collection at some far future date. I have yet to be disappointed from opening and enjoying the exquisite aroma, flavor, smoothness, and even "elegance" of the contents of a 5 or 6-plus year old bag. I have done this ONLY with UNOPENED, SEALED *WHOLE BEAN* coffee. I did try some bags of unopened, sealed GROUND coffee, but couldn't get them to "survive" long term freezer storage more than about 18 months before their respective "flavor", aroma, and "smoothness" profiles started to noticeably diminish. |

Answer: | Fair trade coffee is not guaranteed to be free of mold or mycotoxins. Bad beans can slip through and even often do. Mycotoxins are present in a large percentage of coffee beans and make it into the final drink. However, their levels are far below the safety limit. Unfortunately, fair trade beans are all over the place on the spectrum. It's nice that the market "drives" prices, but in reality, we need to get away from the system they are using currently. Kicking Horse has pretty good coffee though. For almost 10 bucks for 10oz, I'm gonna try to just support locally roasted beans. |

Answer: | hi. the beans are not oily at all. they are perfectly roasted. oily is a misconception that oily is the freshest bean, but it can be quite the opposite. depending on what type of machine you have the Lavazza beans are the best. We have a Gaggia Titanium and all other beans get stuck/clogged. hope this helps. |

Answer: | It will make a smooth, flavorable cup of regular coffee. Just grind the beans for a drip coffee machine. The Super Crema Espresso Beans are an Italian roast (medium) rather than a dark roast that is sometimes bitter. Some mornings when time is tight, I make a pot of regular coffee and steam milk for cafe au lait. |

Answer: | It all depend on how you use it. I use 19 grams of beans to pull a 36 gram 28 second espresso shot (I use a non-pressurized filter). 2.2 lbs = 1000 grams, thus, I get about 52 cappuccinos. I probably average about 2.5 per day, therefore, each bag lasts me about 3 weeks. With a pressurized filter, the standard is 7 grams per shot, therefore, 140 shots. Using my chemex I will use 10 grams per cup, therefore I get 100 cups. Many people use 7 grams per cup, so they will get 140 cups. Hope this helps. (btw, this comes to about 45 cents per cappuccino, with milk it comes to 60 cents each, at 2.5 per day I spend $1.50 for what would cost me $10 per day at Starbucks (the McDonald's of coffee). |

Answer: | Both are medium roasts. However, the Gran Crema is 40% South America arabica and 60% Southeast Asia robusta beans, where Super Crema is 60% Southeast Asia robusta beans and and 40% South American arabica beans, so the Super Crema is going to be more delicate with brighter tones (more fruity) while the Gran Crema is going to have deeper and richer tones, more chocolate-y and nutty. For those who say that these beans are bitter, they--or their machine--may be overextracting the beans. If grinding your own, may want to try a coarser grind to make less bitter. If sour, may want to try grinding finer. Can be a little difficult to distinguish the two, so may want to do some research online for how to differentiate. Regarding the flavor of creama (not this product, but generally speaking), creama usually does not taste very good. What crema does help do is allow one to identify how well their extraction went. |

Answer: | No, not dyed. The darker brown refers to the amount of time a coffee bean is heat roasted. The longer beans are roasted the darker brown the are. Dark roasts or French roast or espresso beans are the darkest. They are very flavor forward, some people feel they taste almost burnt or "too strong". Light roast beans are roasted for the shortest time and some feel don't have enough flavor. A medium roast AKA Viennese roast are a good all purpose roast. Answer: | We recommend an airtight canister in a cabinet or on the counter, never in the fridge or the freezer. If you Google it, you will find chemists and molecular biologists arguing about which is the best method, but we've just tested it ourselves over several years and have determined that the coffee tastes better longer if you don't refrigerate or freeze it. Because we roast to order and customers often receive the coffee while it is still developing (oil rising to the surface of the bean, the freezer will stop that process and dry the coffee out, and the refrigerator has a lot of moisture, and that is not good for coffee. Occasionally we will get a complaint about coffee quality, and after we determine it is not a problem with grind/preparation, we ask how the coffee has been stored, and often it has been in the refrigerator. We're not snobs, and if the coffee tastes great to you, that's all we care about. Our bags for personal use are sitting out on the counter or in a cabinet, rolled down at the top and secured with the tin tie, and that works just fine for us. Answer: | Hi Paul, thanks for reaching out. Many people enjoy this coffee in a French Press. The key is not to pour water on the grounds while it is still boiling. Bring the water to a boil, but then let it sit for a while until it reaches around 185 - 190 degrees, then pour it in. Otherwise you will scald the coffee and rob it of its flavor. It's important to get the grind right also, and for best results, you want a grind fine enough to get some flavor from the coffee, but coarse enough so the coffee does not pass through the screen. I personally prefer the hand drip method (pour over), as it gets more flavor out of the coffee without imparting the flavor of spent grounds (at least that's how I perceive it). Hope this helps. How to brew the perfect cup of coffee:
Traditional Drip Machine: Add one level to slightly rounded measuring tablespoon (10g) of finely ground coffee (fine granular sand, not yet a powder) to each six ounce cup of water (177 ml)
Hand Drip Method: Add 8-10 grams of medium-fine ground coffee per cup. Heat water to 190-195 degrees, (88-90.5 c) pre-soak grounds, slowly add water in a clockwise motion. Adjust to taste.
French Press: Add 1-2 measuring tablespoons (10-20g) of coarse ground coffee per cup (177ml) of water and adjust to taste. Never add boiling water.
Cold Brew: Steep equal amounts of coarse ground coffee and filtered water in a covered container for 12-24 hours, strain coffee out and use cheesecloth or a paper coffee filter to remove leftover grounds. Add water to taste.

Don't buy more than you can use within a couple of months. First order arrived 3 weeks from roasting date and tasted great . Second order arrived 6 months from roasting date, much longer than I would have liked, however, still tastes great! |

I have used these beans in my super automatic machine for 3 years, UNTIL the last few batches (I have on subscription with Amazon and use only these in 1kg bag per month for 3 years). Now they are so oily they clogged my grinder in 2 bags. I can see it staining my hopper. Now looking for dryer beans. |

Answer: | It's a different blend, therefore a different taste. They are both whole beans to be grinded. Super Crema is intended for commercial use and the origin of the beans and amounts used are different from Gran Crema which is made for home use. Super Crema is 80% arabicas (a mix from Brazil, washed Indian Arabica and high quality Columbian) and 20% robustas (a mix from Indonesia and Vietnam). Gran Crema is 40% South America arabica and 60% Southeast Asia robusta. Most people find them comparable and similar, but taste is a personal thing, otherwise we'd all eat and drink the same things. One last thing, both Super Crema and Gran Crema are intended for mixing and not straight espresso. This does not mean that they are bad for espresso and are most certainly superior to the vast majority of coffee brands available for espresso, but there is certainly better choices for espresso within Lavazza. |

Answer: | I have stored UNOPENED, SEALED 5-pound bags of several different brands of coffee — and this is the important part — in the back of the BOTTOM basket in my freezer successfully (so far!l) for almost seven — that's right SEVEN — YEARS, now. I "Sharpie" the date on each bag upon the start of what may be a long, cold "slumber" in the bowels of my "not-so-cryogenic" freezer, only to choose an "oldie but goodie" from the collection at some far future date. I have yet to be disappointed from opening and enjoying the exquisite aroma, flavor, smoothness, and even "elegance" of the contents of a 5 or 6-plus year old bag. I have done this ONLY with UNOPENED, SEALED *WHOLE BEAN* coffee. I did try some bags of unopened, sealed GROUND coffee, but couldn't get them to "survive" long term freezer storage more than about 18 months before their respective "flavor", aroma, and "smoothness" profiles started to noticeably diminish. |

Answer: | Just a different roast. I can't tell you the taste difference because we've always drink the Kick Ass because of it's low acidity. |

Answer: | Fair trade coffee is not guaranteed to be free of mold or mycotoxins. Bad beans can slip through and even often do. Mycotoxins are present in a large percentage of coffee beans and make it into the final drink. However, their levels are far below the safety limit. Unfortunately, fair trade beans are all over the place on the spectrum. It's nice that the market "drives" prices, but in reality, we need to get away from the system they are using currently. Kicking Horse has pretty good coffee though. For almost 10 bucks for 10oz, I'm gonna try to just support locally roasted beans. |

Cafe Cubano Roast is our signature blend. As a child in Nicaragua, Martin Mayorga spent time at cigar factories with his father interacting with Cuban cigar makers who had fled Castro's government. He recalled the men playing dominos, talking about their plight upon leaving their home country, and drinking a distinctly dark and syrupy coffee.
