User questions & answers

Question: Are the bags plastic free
Answer: Yes it is tested TWICE for mold. First our green importers test and reject any coffee shipments if they had any mold, so it would never reach us. Then after we receive coffee from our green importers we also inspect for mold. Both our green importers and our business are certified FSMA facilities. (Food Safety Modernization Act) and our food safety processes are inspected regularly by the FDA.
Question: what is the Exp date of the coffee
Answer: Of course u can make this an expresso. All depends on how fine your coffee grinder can make it. It can make delicious expresso or any type of grind u prefer.
Question: Is this a 5lb bag or a 2lb bag - description header says 5lb
Answer: No it is not. They have 2 lbs decaf. I bought the coffee which is great and wonderful aroma chocolate & cofee infused very nice. Worth the money
Question: These beans are very oily. I read oily beans will ruin coffee grinders. Worried, just bought a new grinder. Is this true
Answer: Hi Grammy, thanks for reaching out. Yes, because it's 100% Arabica, grown between 4,000 - 5,000 feet, and roasted dark, it's as low in acidity as possible. A lot of people don't realize this, but the darker the coffee, the less acidity it actually has. The most important factor however, is the type of bean. Arabica coffee is much less acidic (and better tasting) than Robusta. Hope this helps, thanks so much for your interest in our coffee.

Cafe Cubano Roast– Our Signature Blend

Cafe Cubano Roast is our signature blend. Made with premium, specialty grade coffee, we use our signature Latin style slow-roasting process to provide a distinctly bold cup, with a sweet flavor, and smooth finish. As a child in Nicaragua, Martin Mayorga spent time at cigar factories with his father interacting with Cuban cigar makers who had fled Castro's government. He recalled the men playing dominos, talking about their plight upon leaving their home country, and drinking a distinctly dark and syrupy coffee. Later on when the Mayorga family moved to the U.S., Martin was able to appreciate first hand this rich coffee while spending time with Cuban immigrants in Miami.

Question: It says maple - almond - toffee on the package. is this flavored coffee
Answer: Yes you are getting coffee
Question: Are these beans dry or oily and, using an espresso machine, does it produce a good crema
Answer: Thank you for reaching out to us. Great question. According to the USDA National Nutrient Database, black coffee prepared with tap water contains 2 calories for every 8 oz (1 cup) drink. Because black coffee does not contain significant amounts of nutrients, it is exempt from nutrition labeling. For more information on coffee nutritional facts, please visit: https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods/show/14209
Question: Are the beans Arabica or Robusta
Answer: I believe so.
Question: Is roast date indicated on the package
Answer: Yes, it's a 5 lb. bag. Now that I have looked at the bag more closely, it does not say "Don Pablo" anywhere. The bag does say "subtle earth organic." It's very good.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this Decaf
Answer: Directions call for 2 tbsp of ground coffee per 8 oz of fresh cold water. We ground our beans daily & used a French press for years. Since using buying wonderful coffee, we have switched to a Cuisinart automatic grind & brew. It automatically measures and grinds the correct amount based on how many cups it is set to.
Question: can it be used for espresso machine
Answer: I have a lamp and all my end table things on top of mine but I don’t know if the humidifier would damage the electronics on the back of the freezer. I personally would not put a humidifier next to a running motor of any kind. Just to be safe.
Question: How can I buy and send to a different address
Answer: I currently have in mind... 3 whole chickens(6-8 lbs each), 20 lb of ground beef, 2 4-5 lb pot roasts, 5 lb of brisket.. and about 3 or 4 lb of turkey sausage... Along with three loaves of bread and about 6 lb of frozen fruit.. and 4 lb of frozen vegetables. all of that and they're still a little space for a few more small items if I need to put anything more in there. :-)
Question: How many grounds per 8oz cup when using a french press?? Thanks
Answer: Yes

Mocha Java – Our Vintage Blend

Mocha Java is the world's oldest recorded coffee blend. Traditionally, this blend combined coffees from Mocha (or modern-day Yemen) and Java (on the islands of Indonesia). While this was originally a function of combining coffees from two colonized nations along a trade route, it created a complimentary balance between an earthy coffee and one that is rich and fruity.

In order to replicate this old-world blend while enhancing the profile, we use top grade coffees from Indonesia, East Africa, and Central America for our Mocha Java blend. Once brewed, you will note the bright, rich and earthy notes balanced by sharp fruitness with a vibrant finish.

This truly special coffee has been one of Mayorga’s signature roasts since our founding in 1997. Sit back, relax, and enjoy our interpretation of one of coffee’s truly vintage blends.

User questions & answers

Question: Which one of the "Coffee Bean Direct" espresso roasts would you recommend for superautomatic espresso makers
Answer: Yes, I have done both. Just adjust the size of your grind. Pour-over would be a medium grind, coarse for French press.
Question: Is this 100% arabica beans
Answer: As far as I can tell, that is precisely what it means. Our experience with this vendor was that the coffee provided was way past its "sell by date". Stale doesn't even begin to describe the deplorable condition of this once proud product. This is truly a case of 'you get what you pay for.' I would humbly suggest that you buy directly from the manufacturer/roaster if you are interested in drinking fresh full-flavored coffee.
Question: Anyone compared this to Coffee Bean French roast? I am finishing my French and getting ready to order some more. Thinking about this one
Answer: Hello! Currently our coffee is ineligible for Prime because we prefer to freshly roast each order so you can receive the freshest coffee possible.
Question: is there oil on the beans
Answer: Its a 10 oz bag, or at least that's what I received when I purchased it. It's really fantastic coffee as long as you treat it right (french press, drip, or espresso machine) Highly recommend!

User questions & answers

Question: Is the Medium House Blend the same coffee as the Poor Man's Blend
Answer: I have also purchased Trader Joes coffee's. I have found this company coffee bean direct, to have very good coffee. I have purchased 4 different types of coffee from them and have been happy with all that I have tried. When I have purchased the 5# bag I put 3# back in a vacuum sealed bags and freeze it until I am ready for more. Take it out of the freezer a few days before you need it. The price is really good for the quality of coffee they provide.
Question: What percent of this blend is Kona Coffee
Answer: No, it is not Decaf
Question: how does this stack up on acid level? i use to drink dunkin donuts before they just switched to their starbuck copy cat acid brew
Answer: Third bag. Use for two double espressos every morning. As someone else mentioned, experiment with your fine burr grinder setting. I am using a very light ramp with 16-18 grams, depending on the morning. Great price and I try a lot of different coffees, always in whole bean. I would like a little heavier taste, but I always get a great espresso in 25-30 second pours.
Question: I've been buying the trader joe's french roast (not the organic variety). this is cheaper but i've been happy with the tj's. has anyone compared them
Answer: You can have almost anything delivered to another address with Amazon. Just change the delivery address at checkout. Just double check your next order to be sure it is back to your normal address.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you tell me what Finca these are from or do you buy bulk beans
Answer: Boquete is a mountain town in Chiriqui Province, the premier coffee growing region of Panama. Regardless of how it is roasted, there is no quality guarantee. I will tell you that the Costa Rican that we bought from Coffee Bean Direct was terrible. I have had Costa Rican coffee, and it is one of the finest beans on Earth. What we bought must have been old. As good as Panamanian coffee is, don't expect the highest quality from this supplier.
Question: I'm looking at the panama boquete on march 8,2020. amazon says "only 11 left in stock" but cbd says fresh roasted when ordered. what gives
Answer: No, it is not. I read lots of reviews on Amazon, and many people said some good things about Poor Man's Blend. I have never tried it. I did try the House Blend and did not like it. It didn't come close to reminding me of Starbuck's House Blend. Lately, I've been playing it safe and buying Colombian Supremo. It is always very good.
Question: what kind of cappuccino would this bean produce in my automatic Jura espresso machine
Answer: I'm sorry but I don't know. Perhaps you could contact Coffee Bean Direct?
Question: What roast is the Boquete
Answer: This is very good. But I find 8’oclock 50% decaf is the best. I never get an acid problem from it.

User questions & answers

Question: Why "no ebt/snap
Answer: From all the 5 lb coffees they have available, the Brazilian Santos haves the least acidity. Brazil coffee grows in a low altitude, so the lower the coffee beans grow, the least acid the bean contains, and the higher the bean grows, the more acid it will contain (beans from Africa for example).
Question: Is the decaf dark sumatra co2 or swp? or is it chemically processed
Answer: I buy beans ?
Question: Is the Sumatra Mandheling flavored coffee? New packaging seems to indicate it is
Answer: I don't work at Coffee Bean Direct; so I can't answer about their bean roasting process. However, I do subscribe for regular delivery of 10 pounds of Mexican Altura beans every 2 months. Each package is fresh and full of flavor. I weigh the beans for each pot of coffee for a week, and it never fails that when I have measured the beans, someone comes in and exclaims how wonderful the coffee smells, and I haven't even ground the beans yet. I've been very happy with CBD.
Question: Which of the Coffee Bean Direct coffees (5 lb.) have the smoothest, lowest acidity, but still has great flavor
Answer: Excellent... I have used it for espresso also, it has a very nice creme, reminds me of Illy.

Through a unique collaboration between Roastery 7 and the Mindo Cloudforest Foundation, one an Artisan coffee roastery and the other a nonprofit conservation organization, the two teamed up to create the ultimate combination of good karma. So, how is our coffee carbon negative you might ask? It’s simple, really. It takes 4 lbs. of CO2 to produce and distribute 1 lb. of our coffee. For every pound that’s sold, we donate a portion of the proceeds to fund reforestation in Ecuador’s Mindo cloud forest. Over time, these trees will remove 54 lbs. of CO2 from the atmosphere. You see? More CO2 removed than emitted. Our reforestation efforts along the Northwestern Andes of Ecuador help to plant native tree species throughout the Mindo Cloud Forest region in heavily deforested areas. These trees not only sequester massive amounts of carbon from the air, but also provide habitat to hundreds of local bird species, reinforce soil conservation techniques, and rebuild water tables. The Mindo Cloudforest Foundation works directly with local landowners to provide jobs related to the care and redevelopment of the cloud forest. Making coffee great takes time, effort and passion. At Tiny Footprint Coffee, we pour endless hours into sourcing the finest, sustainably-grown Arabica coffee beans from around the world. Beans that are not only shade-grown, but also organic certified, and most often fair-trade or Rain Forest Alliance certified. We also purchase coffee from small, family-owned farms that are not fair-trade eligible, yet grow some of the most beautiful, best tasting coffees on the planet. We do all of the roasting and training from our roastery in Minneapolis, MN where we’re working hard to make the entire roastery carbon negative – from fully bio-degradable coffee bags, high-efficiency lighting and fuel-efficient ribbon burners on our roaster, to composting coffee grounds and reducing waste around the shop.

  • The world's first carbon negative coffee: For every pound that’s sold, we donate a portion of the proceeds to fund reforestation in Ecuador’s Mindo cloud forest. Over time, these trees will remove 54 lbs. of CO2 from the atmosphere as well as provide habitat for native plant and animal species
  • WHOLE BEAN COFFEE: 100% Organic Shade-Grown Arabica Coffee
  • PRODECOOP uses its proceeds to bring improved living standards to its growing membership and fund programs in medical care, education and environmental sustainability
  • Flavor Profile: Sultry, bold dark roast tones with notes of chocolate roasted leaving traditional Nicaraguan flavors of bright apricot, fig, and spice

User questions & answers

Question: Expired date
Answer: The chemical they are talking about is Acrylamide. It comes about in foods that are fried, roasted, baked - any high-temperature process. And it's only Califorornia that sees fit to warn people about this. You can find more information here: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=george&dbid=260 Overall the amount is so small - you'd have to drink a LOT of coffee to worry about this. One Japanese study I saw showed that cooked asparagus developed a high level of this chemical - but not consistently. If the only state in the US worried about this is CA, I think I'm ok.
Question: Is this Ethiopian Yirgacheffe G1 or G
Answer: No it is not. The inside of the paper packaging is lined with PLASTIC!
Question: Anyone use this for espresso
Answer: Certainly! If you enjoy a more savory and smokey flavor profile, this single origin will more than satisfy on espresso.
Question: what chemical are they using in this that that causes cancer
Answer: We use a layered, heat sealed kraft paper bag with plastic gas valve. Inside is a foil/plastic lining.
