11 best 10 coffee beans
Coffee beans are the seeds of the Coffea plant, which are roasted and ground to make coffee. Here are some key points about coffee beans:
Varieties: There are several species of coffee beans, but the two most well-known and widely cultivated are Arabica (Coffea arabica) and Robusta (Coffea canephora). Arabica beans are known for their mild flavor and aromatic qualities, while Robusta beans are stronger in flavor and contain more caffeine.
Processing Methods: Coffee beans can be processed in different ways after harvesting. Common processing methods include washed, natural, and honey-processed. Each method can impart distinct flavors and characteristics to the beans.
Roasting: Coffee beans are roasted to develop their flavors and aroma. Roasting levels can vary from light to dark, each producing different taste profiles. Light roasts tend to be more acidic and have milder flavors, while dark roasts are richer and more bitter.
Grind Size: The size of the coffee grind is crucial for brewing the perfect cup of coffee. It varies depending on the brewing method. For example, espresso requires a fine grind, while French press coffee calls for a coarse grind.
Origin: Coffee beans are grown in various regions around the world, each with its unique flavor characteristics. The country, region, and even the specific plantation where the coffee is grown can influence the taste of the beans.
Single-Origin vs.Blends: Coffee can be sold as single-origin or blends. Single-origin coffee comes from a specific geographic location, offering unique flavors, while blends are a combination of beans from different origins, aiming for a balanced flavor profile.
Decaffeinated Coffee: Some coffee beans undergo a decaffeination process to remove caffeine, making them suitable for those who want to enjoy coffee without the stimulating effects.
Grading: Coffee beans are often graded for quality. Specialty coffee, for example, is made from high-quality beans that have been carefully selected and processed to preserve their unique characteristics.
Storage: Proper storage is essential to maintain the freshness of coffee beans. They should be kept in an airtight container in a cool, dark place to prevent them from becoming stale.
Brewing: To brew coffee, the beans are ground to the desired consistency and then brewed using various methods such as drip brewing, pour-over, French press, espresso, and more. The brewing method affects the flavor and strength of the coffee.
Tasting Notes: Coffee enthusiasts often describe coffee based on tasting notes, which can include flavor descriptors like fruity, nutty, floral, or chocolaty, as well as attributes like acidity and body.
Health Considerations: Coffee contains caffeine, which can have both positive and negative effects on health, depending on consumption levels and individual sensitivity. It is also a source of antioxidants.
Sustainability: Sustainable and ethical practices in coffee production, such as Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance certifications, are important considerations for many coffee consumers.
Coffee Culture: Coffee plays a significant role in many cultures around the world, often serving as a social beverage to be enjoyed with friends and family.
Artisanal Roasters: There is a growing trend of artisanal coffee roasters who focus on sourcing high-quality beans, roasting them in small batches, and promoting transparency in the coffee supply chain.
Whether you're a casual coffee drinker or a coffee aficionado, understanding these aspects of coffee beans can help you appreciate the complexity and diversity of flavors that coffee has to offer.

Carlos Diaz has become a staple of our Neighbors & Crops program with La Palma y El Tucan. This lactic processed coffee extracts with ease showcasing notes of raw cider, brown sugar and stone fruit. Always a staff favorite, this coffee as a filter offering pairs well with any meal and provides serious comfort to all dishes. Read below for more on lactic acid processing and the famed La Palma mill. We have purchased coffee from Carlos Diaz for the past few seasons. For many years the coffees grown at Las Margaritas were trucked in, roasted, and ground. This was just one of the methods of selling his coffee to the commercial market that Carlos utilized, using many channels to leverage the best price. Thanks to his time studying at Cenicafe, Carlos has a vast amount of technical knowledge about coffee production, which is evident in how well cared for his entire farm is. After joining the Neighbors and Crops program, Carlos has used the team of consultants and pickers throughout the season to provide assistance so he can focus on the details of caring for Las Margaritas. This aid in focus is evident in the cup, with delicate florals and a slick sweetness indicative of the lactic process. We hope to continue to purchase coffee from Carlos for many more seasons. LACTIC PROCESSING Time, temperature, pH, and Brix all play into this unique processing method. A common misconception is that this method is processed using the addition of lactobacillus, a yeast strain, or by the addition of Lactic acid. The real process is a nuanced limited oxygen pre-fermentation in a sealed tank, allowing the bacteria and yeast to consume the mucilage within the cherry, producing lactic acid and therefore changing the final cup profile. After the fermentation, this coffee is depulped and dried on raised parabolic beds where dry heat is pumped in to aid the drying process during the cold and humid nights. LA PALMA Y EL TUCÁN La Palma y El Tucán.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this German chocolate cake come in Decaf |
Answer: | Thank you for your interest in our German Chocolate Cake flavored coffee. This coffee does come in Decaf in a 5lb bag. Coffee Cheers! |
Question: | Where can I find nutrition facts about each type of Coffee? I want to know specifically about carbs, sugar and sugar substitutes |
Answer: | Carbs and sugars come from what you add to coffee. By itself, an 8oz. cup of flavored coffee has 2 calories, 0 carbs (including sugars), and about 2% potassium. Flavored coffees normally don't add sugar substitutes. If you get ones that pre-make a latte or cappuccino, for example, those can contain sugars. Normal coffee from ground beans won't be a problem for you. |
Question: | Is your coffee gluten/wheat free |
Answer: | Thank you for your interest in our coffee! Our coffee doe snot contain gluten, but while the flavoring was being made it could have come in contact with something that did contain gluten. Our recommendation for any allergy or intolerance is to drink out non-flavored roasts! Cheers, Door County Coffee & Tea Co. |
Question: | Is your coffee gluten-free? (Specifically the decaf amaretto and decaf cherry creme |
Answer: | Thank you for your interest in our coffees and for reaching out to us with your question. Yes, all of our coffees are indeed Gluten Free. Coffee Cheers! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why aren't there any "5 Star" reviews in the past year? Reviews from over a year ago aren't helpful if the taste has changed as I saw in 1 comment |
Answer: | I have been ordering this coffee for several years and still love it. I recently switched from using an AeroPress to cold brew and it is still my favorite every day blend. I have tried others and aside from their own Grizzly Claw I have not been able to find another blend that satisfies my taste buds as well. Glady give it 5 stars |
Question: | How long the time I can store this coffee |
Answer: | I have stored UNOPENED, SEALED 5-pound bags of several different brands of coffee — and this is the important part — in the back of the BOTTOM basket in my freezer successfully (so far!l) for almost seven — that's right SEVEN — YEARS, now. I "Sharpie" the date on each bag upon the start of what may be a long, cold "slumber" in the bowels of my "not-so-cryogenic" freezer, only to choose an "oldie but goodie" from the collection at some far future date. I have yet to be disappointed from opening and enjoying the exquisite aroma, flavor, smoothness, and even "elegance" of the contents of a 5 or 6-plus year old bag. I have done this ONLY with UNOPENED, SEALED *WHOLE BEAN* coffee. I did try some bags of unopened, sealed GROUND coffee, but couldn't get them to "survive" long term freezer storage more than about 18 months before their respective "flavor", aroma, and "smoothness" profiles started to noticeably diminish. |
Question: | What is the different between Kick ass dark & Three sisters medium |
Answer: | Just a different roast. I can't tell you the taste difference because we've always drink the Kick Ass because of it's low acidity. |
Question: | are the beans in this coffee wet processed, and therefore free of mold |
Answer: | Fair trade coffee is not guaranteed to be free of mold or mycotoxins. Bad beans can slip through and even often do. Mycotoxins are present in a large percentage of coffee beans and make it into the final drink. However, their levels are far below the safety limit. Unfortunately, fair trade beans are all over the place on the spectrum. It's nice that the market "drives" prices, but in reality, we need to get away from the system they are using currently. Kicking Horse has pretty good coffee though. For almost 10 bucks for 10oz, I'm gonna try to just support locally roasted beans. |

Kaya Kopi Honey (Luwak Enzymatic Process) Kaya Kopi Honey starts its life from the very same beans that would have been ingested by wild Asian Palm Civets. However, instead of the Luwak cats eating the berries, our farmers collect the beans. The finest beans are collected and then undergoes a floating selection process, which leaves only perfect beans of the same density and ripeness. Next, the beans are pulped and dried in a greenhouse for 20 days while undergoing an enzymatic and fermentation process. This process utilizes organic local honey as a catalyst and mimics the process of digestion that occurs in the stomachs of the civet cats. The final result is an exceptionally flavored coffee with an astounding aroma profile. Kaya Kopi Honey is an ideal drink (or gift) for those looking to experience a truly unique coffee experience. Kopi Kopi Honey is slightly darker than traditional Kaya Kopi Luwak and packs a more floral note due to the honey process. Additional Details Kaya Kopi Honey coffee is perfect for a gift for coffee lovers and coffee connoisseurs. The 100-gram bag makes about 10 cups of 4 oz coffee. The taste is overflowing with flavor and aroma, popping off the tongue with freshness but still with a medium and lasting body. Kaya Kopi is 100% committed to animal welfare, environmental conservation, and community development. We never cage Asian Palm Civets.
- Kaya Kopi Honey relies on the enzymatic process famous for producing Kopi Luwak but does not involve Asian Palm Civets (Luwak Cats). This is the perfect coffee for those who want to enjoy the taste of Kopi Luwak more regularly at a lower cost point.
- This product is 100% Kaya Kopi Honey Whole Beans from the Pangalengan Highlands of West Java, Indonesia. It comes from 100% Arabica beans.
- Kaya Kopi Honey has a bursting flavor profile that is incomparable to any other coffee – having undergone an enzymatic process that enhances the typical flavor profile.
- All our coffee beans are hand-picked, manually sorted, sun-dried, and roasted to perfection.
- Kaya Kopi Honey is selected from the sweetest coffee beans that have gone through an enzymatic and fermentation process that mimics the Kopi Luwak process in a civet’s stomach. Luwak Cats (Civets) are not involved in the making of this coffee.
