12 best new cd players
New CD players are electronic devices designed to play compact discs (CDs), providing audio playback for music and other audio content. Here's what you should know about new CD players:
Types of CD Players:
- Traditional CD Players: These are standalone devices that play audio CDs. They typically have a tray or slot for inserting CDs and may include basic controls like play, pause, stop, skip, and volume adjustment.
- CD Changers: CD changers can hold multiple discs and allow for continuous playback of CDs in sequence. Some changers can hold up to several dozen CDs, providing extended listening without the need to change discs manually.
- DVD/CD Players: Some DVD players are also capable of playing audio CDs in addition to DVDs, making them versatile for both video and audio playback.
Audio Quality: High-quality CD players are designed to provide clear and faithful audio reproduction. Look for features like high-quality digital-to-analog converters (DACs) and signal processing to ensure superior sound quality.
Compatibility: Most CD players are compatible with standard audio CDs, but some models can also handle recordable CDs (CD-R) and rewritable CDs (CD-RW). Ensure that the player supports the types of CDs you intend to use.
Digital Output: Some CD players offer digital audio output options, such as coaxial or optical connections. This can be useful if you want to connect the CD player to an external audio system or digital audio recorder.
Display and Controls: Modern CD players often come with easy-to-read displays that show track information and elapsed time. They may also have remote controls for convenient operation from a distance.
Playback Features: CD players may offer features like random playback, repeat, program mode (to create a custom playlist), and the ability to skip between tracks or directly access a specific track.
Size and Design: CD players vary in size and design. You can find compact portable models, as well as larger, more traditional designs that fit into a home audio system.
Price Range: CD players are available at a wide range of price points. Entry-level models offer basic functionality, while high-end audiophile-grade players provide exceptional sound quality but can be more expensive.
Brand Options: Many reputable electronics manufacturers produce CD players, including Sony, Panasonic, Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, and Pioneer, among others. Consider brand reputation, customer reviews, and your budget when making a selection.
Additional Features: Some CD players may include additional features like built-in AM/FM radios, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB ports for playing digital audio files from external devices.
When choosing a new CD player, consider your specific needs, including how you plan to use it, your audio equipment setup, and your budget. Whether you're looking for a basic player for casual listening or a high-end audiophile model for a premium audio experience, there are options available to suit various preferences and requirements.

User questions & answers
Question: | What are the dimensions |
Answer: | Product Dimensions: 11.2 x 3.4 x 17.1 inches ; 11.7 pounds |
Question: | will the 650 recognize my external harddrive itunes library? will i see genres/artist/album/song or what |
Answer: | I use it with an iPhone 7 and no song information whatsoever appears on the display; only the CD player mode shows. |
Question: | does it work with older stereo equipment such as amps, and speakers form '80s - '90s |
Answer: | yes, our 1980s Bose Speakers and older 90s amp work fine! |
Question: | does it records |
Answer: | Yes you can record to a USB thumb drive. However, keep in mind that the S.T.N.R. will drop from 100 DB to 80 DB which a large amount! Recording with this player using the USB port is for compressed music files only!So MP3s that are compressed will still sound even more compressed. I bought this for the Burr-Brown DACand a Onkyo 7030 for the Wolfson DAC!Using the add on features may be useful to some but it's really a waste IMO seeing how you lose so much Dynamic Range. Your knocking it down to vinyl standards with a good phono stage like the Carver C-1 preamp has built into it.Using this CD player with even a top of the line receiver will be nothing like using it with separate components. Using a good quality preamp and amp will allow you to get the best possible sound out of a stand alone CD player. I would also state that the Onkyo 7030 is a step up in sound quality over this CD player. I only bought the TEAC for it's Burr-Brown DAC and the fact that it will act as a back up CD player on my C-1's AUX 2 input! It's not a bad player, however, a + or - 2 DB frequency response is rather bad. The Onkyo is + or - .25 DB in comparison. Although I will admit that most people can't hear the difference. The Onkyo 7030 was my first Onkyo purchase and at a 11.7LB weight it's the best CD player on the market for under $400 easily! This Teac is the second best sub $400 player you can buy! People that claim they can actually hear the difference between CD players are usually kidding themselves and unless they are using separate components with a very good preamp and amp you simply can't hear the difference! They can claim all day long that they can, the truth is it's a ego thing! If you actually perform A/B testing between several different players you can see for yourself how true this actually is!I have friends that are very good guitarists and they have a good sense of sound in general. None of them can hear the difference as long as the output volume is the same. I always just suggest that you do the A/B testing yourself with a couple of friends and then you will understand what I have known for many years! People claim all sorts odd things. Such as hearing the difference between two similar turntables, hearing the difference between 14 gauge copper speaker wire and 10 gauge copper speaker wire. This is a joke as if you actually do A/B testing on your own you will see how full of cra* these people really are!! |

User questions & answers
Question: | does this play gapless on live songs and does the cd player make a loud humming noise when playing |
Answer: | No and No! If it has a loud humming sound check your connections. Is it hooked up with a SPIF(Digital) or with the analog RCAs?It will not play gapless songs. Checkout all the reviews there is one that's all about the player not playing gapless with classical CDs. You may be able to play a gapless recording if its a wav file recorded that way.Sincerely, Steven Level |
Question: | can it handle sacd discs |
Answer: | This is confusing because these reviews are for a few different model disc players, one does and the rest don't. It's the S1000 that plays SACDs. "The CD-S1000 is capable of playing Super Audio CDs... it also plays CDs and CD-RW discs." |
Question: | Does the front USB port have an electric pass through to charge an ipod while playing |
Answer: | The CD-S1000 doesn't have a USB port. |
Question: | Do I need to buy a separate amplifier to use this equipment to play cd's |
Answer: | No, you do not need a separate amplifier to play CDs. The unit will play just fine. Of course, without an outboard amp for the unit to be plugged into and that amp feeding speakers, you will get no sound output. Nevertheless, it WILL play those CDs, and do so quietly. |
Question: | Does it play DVD |
Answer: | Hi MGP, No, it doesn't play DVDs. Thanks. ~Ralph |
Question: | a sound system novice, what do I connect this to??? I bought it online and somehow assumed it was "complete" -- now I need to buy what else is required on line but no idea how to be sure I am making correct purchase. PLEASE HELP ----(just want to hear my cds |
Answer: | This is not a "complete" unit, but merely picks sounds off the CDs and provides output to send to (not included) speakers. Did you have a CD player previously? If so you would likely make the same connections to get CD output to your speakers. Otherwise, you will need another unit which will do that, probably including an amp. Might be time to reach out for help to someone in your circle of acquaintance. Mine is plugged into an "AV Receiver", (ONKYO brand, model TX-SR502) which also receives signal from my DVD player, turntable, TV, and internet radio receiver. The unit also provides radio tuner output if I want to listen to radio. Obviously, this is a separate unit which enables one to select which input to listen to. |
Question: | Does it have usb port outlet for ipod |
Answer: | Hi Anthony, No, this unit does not have a USB port at all. ~Earl |
Question: | A friend just gave me an old sony cdp-ce375, but the remote is missing. can i still operate this unit without a remote |
Answer: | Yes, just look at the buttons on the face of the unit. Old ones are the best. I have purchased three from amazon...maybe four and they work beautifully without a remote. I never use the remote anyway. |
Question: | what are the dimensions of this cd player |
Answer: | Hi, approximate dimensions for this Sony CD player are: 430 mm × 110 mm × 400 mm or (17 in × 4 3/8 in × 15 3/4 in) including projecting (w/h/d). -Ely |
Question: | Is it vented on the top? May I stack it between other devices |
Answer: | No, it is not vented and we do not recommend stacking other devices on top of this Sony CD player. It might do some damages on the unit especially when a heavy unit is placed above it. -Ely |
Question: | I am so dumb about all of this -- what is a receiver to connect to rather than speakers |
Answer: | does a SA500 technics receiver have a DAC |
Question: | Des the cd player rewind or ff SECTIONS of a song, or does it only go track to track |
Answer: | Hi Maria: if you are playing a CD, that has been recorded with songs in individual tracks, say 1-17; if you are listening to a song on track 5, you can STOP that song from playing, and the CD player will stop on that track, in that particular place. If you "hit" the play button again, the CD will continue playing that song. You can also "Fast Forward" that song, and stop the player before the end of the track. At the end of the track, the player will automatically go to the next track. One thing you can not do, as you can with a DVD player, that is playing a DVD that has been recorded with music, is STOP the CD player from playing a track, and then reverse the player to a previous point on the track you have been playing - the player will automatically revert to the previous track. However, if the CD you are playing has not been recorded in tracks, but is just one continuous sequence of songs, then you would be able to reverse the player to a previous position on the CD. The CD player keeps track of the total time of the DISK being played, and displays it on the indicator on the front panel. So, if you have written down the time your favorite song starts to play, you would be able to start your favorite song playing, from a Fast Forward position, by just stopping the player, and then restarting it in the ordinary Play mode, or reverse the player to the time displayed in which your favorite song starts. I hope my comments help you Maria. Philip |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work with any of the Amazon Alexa products like the show etc |

Question: | Can it use 220 volts |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Can you operate this CD player/radio without the remote control |
Answer: | Yes, there are buttons connected the the CD player itself on the top of it. But there are only 5 basic buttons: mode, lower volume, increase volume, skip, or go back. |
Question: | Can I use external speakers with this CD player |
Answer: | Of course you can. Connect the portable CD player to other audio player devices with the included 3.5mm male-to-male audio cable. |
Question: | Can it be used with ear buds |
Answer: | I purchasedt as a gift for a friend I don't know if it can be used with ear buds I am sorry I could't help you. |
Question: | I just received this item, and when I put a Cd it doesn't do anything, is theyre anything else I gotta do besides takin out the paper cd tray protect |
Answer: | Mine just quite playing. Stops in the middle of a song so it is not the CD switch. Very disappointed. Tried different CD's with the same result. |
Question: | Does it come with the power ac cable |
Answer: | Just got ours today. NO POWER CORD. And the ac cords we have don’t fit so far... |
Question: | is this a quality item or a throw away |
Answer: | This is garbage. It does not play CDs without odd playback problems. If it had actually worked, it would still be overpriced considering the size. This is my third boombox CD player in the last 30 days. I keep sending them back to Amazon because they are all unplayable junk. I don't know if it's related to the Chinese trade war or if China just forgot how to make a CD player. I'm still looking for a quality (by quality I mean anything that will correctly play CDs) replacement for my last portable stereo which was an awesome Craig Electronics CD Boombox with AM/FM Stereo Radio. Amazon stopped carrying them and replaced the item with this Jensen junk. Still looking . . . |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it play mp3 files from my usb flash drive |
Answer: | Hi Starlord. Thanks for the question! There a few possible ways to connect the SoundLink Revolve+ Bluetooth Speaker to a TV. If your TV has an analog audio output (e.g. headphone jack, or red/white RCA audio out), it would be possible to connect the speaker with an auxiliary audio cable. If you are looking to connect wirelessly via Bluetooth, your TV would need to support Bluetooth audio streaming to Bluetooth headphones/speakers. If your TV does not support this feature, then it may be possible to connect with a 3rd-party Bluetooth transmitter. If you choose this route, be sure to make sure the transmitter you choose supports A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). Hope this helps! |
Question: | Does it have an automatic cd repeat button |
Answer: | The Soundlink Revolve can pair with any device that is Bluetooth 2.0 or later and is A2DP compatible, so it would depend on your computer. Thanks for asking and have a great day. Best Regards, - Emmet Bose Support |
Question: | What us the Music Port Jack? Does this mean I can plug my iPhone, and iPod in via the headphone port on both of these? Or is it different |
Answer: | The Revolve+ will be the best-performing Bose portable Bluetooth speaker. Combined with its 16 hours of battery, the speaker will provide an excellent, spacious, full-day listening experience from a single speaker. The Revolve will feature a best-in-class performance for its size with a comparable 12 hours of listening experience. The benefit of having two revolve speakers will be spreading the great sound quality in a larger area, where both Revolve speakers will provide a more spacious listening experience. It will also provide greater stereo separation through the integrated left/right speaker function. Both of these functions are features within the Bose Connect app. |
Question: | What is the difference between this unit and the other one having the same model # sold by Amazon for |
Answer: | Thanks for the question Mariella Jauregui. The comparison of sound between these two speakers won't be extremely different. The SoundLink Revolve+ is considered to be the newest replacement for the SoundLink Bluetooth Speaker III, in our top-performing Bluetooth speaker category. They are both going to perform great in a larger area, and will both deliver deep, loud audio. The true 360° sound, improved battery life, and water-resistance on the Soundlink Revolve+, are all improvements on the SoundLink Bluetooth Speaker III. We hope this helps to answer your question! |

All will marvel at the crystal-clear playback, enhanced by our exclusive VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry), for a smoother sounding audio signal. Just as crucial to your sonic enjoyment is Direct Digital Path, a heavily shielded, high-quality cable that protects the delicate audio signal from noise emitted by the surrounding circuits. Housed in a sturdy chassis graced with a brushed aluminum front panel, the DX-C390 is ready to provide hours of uninterrupted music—for the soundtrack to your life. Key Technology Features: 192 kHz/24bit AD Converters: Costly, extremely powerful digital-to-analog converters , that not only boast a dynamic range of 120 dB, they process information faster and are virtually resistant to clock jitter, to ensure the best possible performance from DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and audio CD.RI (Remote Interactive): With Onkyo’s exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. What’s more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod to your receiver through Onkyo’s RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just can’t be experienced through headphones. RI capability will also give you remote operability of your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music. VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry): Conventional D/A conversion methods reduce digital pulse noise at the conversion stage but can’t remove it completely. Previously only found on our high-end components, VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to overcome this problem. Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result — a virtually noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source to bring out even the most subtle of nuances in your music, movie soundtracks and even MP3s. MP3 Playback: This audio format achieves about a 10:1 compression over conventional CD audio. What does this mean? You can store many more songs using the same amount of space. For example, a standard 650MB CD can hold more than 200 songs in MP3 format. Various bitrates allow for higher or lower quality, depending on the desired sound quality of the final recording.

User questions & answers
Question: | regarding onkyo dx c390 - can i discs, press play to hear music or is it necessary to connect speakers? i just opened pkg and do not see speakers |
Answer: | This is a CD player/changer only. Not only will you need speakers, you will also need an amplifier (which could be incorporated into a stereo receiver). And "RCA"-type cables and speaker wire to connect your new audio system. Good luck. |
Question: | My Onkyo CD player is having a weird issue. The first track is jittery but the rest of the tracks play fine. Any ideas as to how to fix it |
Answer: | The CD may have a bad track. Sometimes wiping it off gently with a static-free cloth will fix the problem. I found the same problem - thought it was the CD changer - but it was a bad audio track. In troubleshooting, be sure to change to another CD so the first one is ejected. Then play another CD and see if the problem returns. After removing the CD with the bad track, power down the CD changer for about 30 seconds in order to clear the system. Power the unit back on and select a new CD. If the problem doesn't return, open the CD loading door and load in the problem CD, select that CD and see if the problem returns. |
Question: | what are the dimensions |
Answer: | 5 1/4" high, 17 1/4" wide and 17" deep |
Question: | Does it have suffle option per song, not just per cd |
Answer: | This 6 CD player has a Repeat option and a Shuffle option. If you use them both simultainiously all tracks on all disks will shuffle indefinately. Unless you get a seriously defective unit like I did. And then they just stop doing so after about 4 or 5 tracks. |

Question: | what are the dimensions of this cd player |
Answer: | You can choose which sensors are used to control the furnace. If you only select one, that sensor will determine the room temp. If you select more than one sensor, the system uses the average to determine when to run the furnace. If you use wireless sensors you can move them around to deal with uneven temps. |
Question: | Is it vented on the top? May I stack it between other devices |
Answer: | I did not need an internet gateway. I use one indoor remote sensor. It was installed in the summer of 2014, and has been working as expected. Maybe newer models have different requirements, though. |
Question: | I am so dumb about all of this -- what is a receiver to connect to rather than speakers |
Answer: | It can support furnaces with as many as 3 stages (installation manual p. 22) |
Question: | Des the cd player rewind or ff SECTIONS of a song, or does it only go track to track |
Answer: | Yes. Please look at page 20 of the product data sheet: https://forwardthinking.honeywell.com/new/68-0312.pdf |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this unit have "last memory?" By that I mean after you turn the unit off and turn it on again, it will remember which disc was being played |
Answer: | The side brackets come off to make it a free standing unit. I would guess that the feet remove easily if one wanted to install it in a rack. I can not check until next week, I will try to measure it for you, check the feet and get back to you |
Question: | Does unit show time remaining on disc, also time remaining of track playing, and are these functions controlled by a button on the remote |
Answer: | there is no power unit (amplifier) in this cd player. It needs to be run through and external amp or receiver. The power of that external amp will determine how many speakers, etc. you can use. |
Question: | I have a great sound system I just want something for movies. How is the video |
Answer: | No idea! But I am thinking that the disc changer is one component of three (CD player, amp and speakers) The end result would also rely on quality of amp and speakers. Without real high end amp and speakers, this should be better than the wave radio. Not kicking the Bose system Just the package selection. |
Question: | Here's a question that no one asks, on a usb stick, does it play unlimited folders or how many does it read thank you |
Answer: | Mine is black. Do not know if there are other colors. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do you completely turn the system off? Ive read the instructions, but still have words across the top, thank you i advance |
Answer: | On both the radio and the radio's remote control is a button labelled On/Standby that turns the radio on/off. On remote the button is red and on the radio it's just above the volume button to the left side. You should look on the instructions under the tab Disc/Playback for on/off p. E-12 and p. E-4 under the tab Front Panel. Also, on the radio's remote is a button labelled sleep as a timer to turn off the radio, if you forget to do so. |
Question: | Can i set the system to repeat all 5 cds so they will play all day until i turn the unit off |
Answer: | Yes! I love this feature. MY only issue with this player is the complicated instructions . Otherwise it sounds great. I have 3 BOSE units which sound good, are compact, & easy to use.....but they are ALWAYS on the fritz. This little SHARP unit is small, sounds good, and most importantly for me....it has the 5 disc capability. I've had it about 4 years now & it has never failed to operate properly. AND it's almost 3x less in price than a BOSE.... which only plays ONE disc. No brainer! |
Question: | are the dimensions (6.9x12.4x9.5) for the player and the 2 speakers total? what are the dimensions of each component |
Answer: | No, the above is the size of the main unit, though my measurments are slightly different. Measurement across the top of the unit with the speakers at each side of the main player: 19 inches. Speakers, each: 5-3/4” X 7-1/2” X 10-1/2”. Main unit: 6-3/4” X 9-1/2” X 11-1/2” |
Question: | cant he speakers be separated from base unit and how long is the wire from back of base unit to speaker |
Answer: | The speakers are, indeed, separate from the base unit. The speakers are "hardwired" with about 6-feet length of rather thin gauge wire. The main unit has simple spring-loaded terminals to pinch the bare ends of the speaker wires. I added some additional length of heavier gauge wire to the existing wires to get the length I needed. The speakers are 6-ohms, but the manual states something like, "don't use speakers that are less than 6-ohms", which, to me, indicates one could use different speakers as long as they are at least 6-ohm. For example, 8-ohm speakers are common, but they might wouldn't be as efficient with the relatively low-powered 50-watt amplifier ... some they wouldn't be able to get as loud as the stock 6-ohm speakers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will it play a DVD in a loop |
Answer: | Yes it certainly does. I have ringing of the ears and I need noise to keep the ringing down and I use this dependable DVD player to repeat the movie all night long continuously. I love this dvd player |
Question: | What does "Upscaling" mean |
Answer: | It creates a simulated high-definition picture that can look fine. However, many 4K sets these days already upscale any DVD feed (to 1080p) or even 1080p feed (to 4K), and it may sometimes happen that a player that is upscaling will have the results clash with the upscaling feature available with the set. This happened with my player and I had to go to its menu and disable the upscaling feature. The player then worked fine. |
Question: | Does the player come with hdmi cable |
Answer: | It has a HDMI connector but the cable does not come in the box. |
Question: | can anyone tell me if this DVD player supports closed captioning for DVD's |
Answer: | If you want to upscale via HDMI, it will not display the CC. HDMI doesn't support CC, nor do modern TVs, except for broadcast where it is government-mandated. The old composite (yellow) connection is analog and will show CC, but then what's the point of having an upscaling player? HD incompatibility with CC (not to be confused with subtitles) has been an major issue in the deaf community since the government, in its rush to digital, forgot about it. Now, however, some BluRay players, like Sony 3500 and 3700, have a CC decoder built in that reads and transfers DVD's CC (BDs all have subtitles) before they gets to the HDMI cable so they will finally show up on a modern TV, which is not equipped to decode CC via HDMI. While the decoder used to be in the the old analog CRTs, now it is in the new players after being missing from HDMI until 2015. The Sony 510H is not among the players that decode CC through HDMI, so if you're hearing-impaired and a DVD has CC rather than subtitles, you're stuck with composite. Frustratingly, modern TVs won't even read CC via the better-looking component video inputs (red/green/blue + audio)--which they should because these are analog as well). |
