14 best ethernet switch 8 ports

An Ethernet switch with 8 ports is a networking device used to connect multiple devices within a local area network (LAN). Here's what you need to know about an 8-port Ethernet switch:

  1. Port Count: An 8-port Ethernet switch has eight Ethernet ports, which can be used to connect eight devices, such as computers, printers, servers, or other networked devices.

  2. Networking Speed: These switches typically support various Ethernet speeds, including 10/100/1000 Mbps (Gigabit) or even higher speeds in some cases. The specific speed may depend on the model and manufacturer.

  3. Unmanaged vs. Managed: Ethernet switches come in two main types: unmanaged and managed. Unmanaged switches are typically plug-and-play devices, requiring no configuration. Managed switches offer more control over the network and can be configured to manage traffic, prioritize data, and provide security features.

  4. Plug-and-Play: Most 8-port Ethernet switches are designed to be easy to set up. You simply plug in your devices using Ethernet cables, and the switch will automatically detect and connect them.

  5. Expansion: These switches are commonly used to expand the number of available Ethernet ports on a network. If your router or modem has limited ports, adding an 8-port switch can increase the number of devices you can connect.

  6. Home and Small Business Use: 8-port Ethernet switches are often used in home networks or small businesses where a moderate number of devices need to be connected. They provide a cost-effective way to expand your network.

  7. Duplex and Auto-Negotiation: Many modern switches support full-duplex communication and auto-negotiation, which means they can automatically adjust the network speed and mode for each connected device to optimize performance.

  8. LED Indicators: Ethernet switches typically have LED indicators for each port, displaying the status of the connection, such as activity and link speed.

  9. Power Over Ethernet (PoE): Some 8-port switches offer PoE capabilities, which can provide power to compatible devices like IP cameras, phones, or access points through the Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for separate power sources.

  10. Quality of Service (QoS): Managed switches often support QoS settings, allowing you to prioritize certain types of traffic (e.g., voice or video) to ensure a smoother network experience.

  11. Rack-Mountable vs. Desktop: Depending on your needs, you can find 8-port switches in both desktop and rack-mountable form factors. Rack-mounted switches are suitable for larger setups.

  12. Brand and Models: Various manufacturers produce 8-port Ethernet switches, including well-known brands like Cisco, Netgear, TP-Link, D-Link, and others. The specific features and capabilities may vary between models and brands.

When choosing an 8-port Ethernet switch, consider your network requirements, such as the number of devices to connect, the need for management features, and the desired speed. Ensure compatibility with your existing network equipment for seamless integration.

User questions & answers

Question: I am using cat 8 cables. Will this product work? If not what other switch do i need
Answer: I think it sounds most like an MI Audio crunch distortion, which it is supposedly a clone of. The Crunch Distortion is supposedly based on the Rat. I've never played a rat, so I don't want to make the comparison. I will say for like $30 the joyo sounds really good, and after about six months of playing its had no issues. hope I helped a little
Question: Should this connect to arris tg1672g without any configuration on either side? the arris combines "..a 4-port gigabit router.." not working for me
Answer: Mono output , and why wud u use headphones???
Question: Do i have to have 1gig internet speed to have this or no
Answer: Yes, i have used it for bassPretty cool, very agressive ...noisyBut if you dig that for bass it will work.If you're into gutter punk its perfect
Question: how to get plug and play to work? 14 ports not putting out IP, have modem and wifi router connected, but cant get other ports to work
Answer: Go for it. My son uses one with a small Crate ss practice amp, and it sounds phenomenal. He has to keep the volume on the pedal very low though - set above 9 o'clock it was not pleasant. Set around 8 o'clock sounded great. I tried it through a JC-120 and I thought it sounded as good as my George Dennis Wizard Rock, which is normally my favorite distortion pedal for JC. But again, finding the sweet spot in the pedal's output level was important.

User questions & answers

Question: Is one of the 5 ports used to connect to the router, so that only 4 are available for other device use? Thanks
Answer: Hi TomKM. You are correct - 1 port is used to connect to the router leaving 4 available for other devices. The GS108 offers 8 ports & is just a tad larger than its little brother if you needed a few more ports.
Question: What is the difference between unmanaged and unmanaged
Answer: On Netgear's website, they offer the following features of an Unmanaged Plus switch:-Network monitoring-Gigabit speed-VLAN support for traffic segmentation-Auto "denial-of-service" (DoS) prevention-Troubleshoot connection issues via cable test-Quality of Service (QoS) for traffic prioritization-Loop prevention and broadcast storm controls-IGMP snooping v1, v2 and v3 support for multicast optimization-Rate limiting for better bandwidth allocation-Port mirroring for network monitoring-Jumbo frame support
Question: can I run a line from my router to the switch, then from switch to receiver, blue ray, xbox 360 and Xbox1? will xboxs run ok? dont need both on togthr
Answer: Yes Bertt, you can, and you definitely should, run a twisted-pair ethernet cable from your router to the switch. After you connect the router to the switch, you can run twisted-pair cables to any device that has an RJ45 ethernet port. You've probably maxed out on your router's RJ45 ports, and so adding a switch will greatly expand your capacity to distribute hard-wired internet access to every device in your house that has an RJ45 ethernet port. May I suggest that you buy a switch with as many RJ45 ports as you can afford. The more RJ45 ports your switch has, the more devices (computers, TVs, A/V receivers, DVD and Blu-Ray players, Xbos etc.) you can connect to it for fast, reliable, secure internet access. You won't be sorry that you buy a switch with extra ports. You may not need them now, but eventually you'll probably acquire other devices that have RJ45 ports. It you don't have your house already wired for ethernet distribution, your biggest challenge will be finding wiring paths to every location where you have a computer, TV etc. One last topic: how well you device operate after you've made all of the cable connections through the router to the switch will depend more on the speed of your router and on the speed of your Internet service. Switches are very fast, so they're not likely to be the bottlenneck in a slow Internet connection. Best wishes. JKL
Question: Althought the spec states cat5, does this GS116 also support cat
Answer: Yes this devise will support Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6. Not that Cat5 does not support gigabit speed and is mostly found in older or systems not utilizing gigabit speeds. All systems i have worked on in the last 10 years are Cat5e or Cat6.

User questions & answers

Question: which is the input
Answer: no. there is no pour spout. I have not yet used it because I can't find out what the non-stick material is. I meant to get porcelain.
Question: Is the power adapter rated for 110-120v or 110-240v
Answer: As you click on each size number, the description above it changes. The 16 is 1 qt, the 18 is 2 qt. and the 20 is 3 qt. I like my 1 qt. and use it every day.
Question: Are all ports 1G line rate ?? What is the operating temperature range
Answer: Dishwasher safe; yes. I place padded spacers in between the anodized surfaces of my Cuisinart pots. No need to expose them to possible metal on metal exposures.
Question: Does this switch assign IP addresses, or is it a dumb switch? I want a dumb switch, nothing more
Answer: I have a smaller version of this pan. But judging from the measurements (6" diameter, 4.5" high) I'd say you could easily boil 2-3 eggs in it with 2" of water over them (is that what you mean? That's my best guess. I love the pan I have, use it all the time even though the teflon (inside) bottom of the pan is slightly damaged from using a metal potato masher in it....my fault as I wasn't careful enough with it.

User questions & answers

Question: Will it work with a Cisco cablemodem (Cox
Answer: As long as the cabinet has some air space you should be fine. I have not noticed a heat issue while using this switch.
Question: Does anyone know if it has holes on the bottom for wall mounting
Answer: All switches act as repeaters or "boosters" to utilize your term. Cat-5 is limited to 100 meters which is about 330' . In the past I have placed switches at about 200' distance in large factory warehouses to run long distances. They recompile the wave length as attenuation starts around the 300' mark.
Question: what does it do
Answer: Yes, this is my exact setup. You can not only plug these into the Google Wifi puck that is acting as your main router, but also into any of the pucks you're using to create a stronger Wifi signal elsewhere. The small form factor actually makes these ideal for this scenario.
Question: Which port do I connect my router to
Answer: Odd that both answers managed to give a completely wrong answer (or, rather, an answer that ignores the reality of the situation). Yes, you can do that, in the sense that the switch doesn't have a dedicated input, so you can connect an Ethernet cable from your modem's output to a port on the switch, then another cable from another port on the switch to the input on the router, then a third cable from the router's output to a third port on the switch, and it should function the same as if you connected the router's input directly to the modem's output, assuming you don't actually plug anything else into it. However, and this is where the other 2 somehow managed to get the answer completely wrong, neither the switch, nor a modem that isn't also a router, is going to function as a DHCP server. As far as consumer devices go, that will require a router. So the above, which is a total waste of 2 of the 5 ports (as well as requiring an otherwise unnecessary cable), is the only sense in which the answer to your question is "yes". In every other sense, including, presumably, the way you actually meant it, the answer is "no", because something needs to act as a DHCP server for all of the devices connected to the switch. And, in your case, that thing is going to be a router. Put another way, your modem, if not acting as a router, is capable of assigning 1, and only 1, IP address. That's why a modem that's not acting as a router has 1, and only 1, active Ethernet port. A router functions as a DHCP server, which means that it's capable of assigning IP addresses to other devices that connect to it. Put even more simply, only 1 device can get to the Internet via a modem that isn't functioning as a router. Multiple devices can get to the Internet via a router. Therefore, logic dictates that you make the router the 1 device that can access the Internet via the modem and then connect everything else to the Internet through that. A switch like this isn't going to remove that limitation. So the router needs to be the only thing connected to the modem's output, so it unquestionably receives the single opportunity to access the Internet. Then a switch like this can be used to connect other devices to the router's output, since, unlike the modem, it's capable of granting multiple devices connected to it access to the Internet.

Question: will this support an internet connection at 1000 mbps to multiple devices
Answer: No you have to buy any cable you may need
Question: Can it be mounted on a wall, does it have mount holes on the bottom
Answer: No. The Cudy device is a Layer-2 switch. To share internet between two computers, you need a Router, which is a Layer-3 device.
Question: what is the difference between NETGEAR 5-Port FS205 - NETGEAR GS105 ProSafe 5port- 10/100/1000 Mbps? thanks
Answer: It runs off a DC 5V 0.5A power supply with a barrel connector. It may be possible to solder a USB plug instead of the power brick and power it, it should work, but I haven't tried it.
Question: What's the difference in performance between NETGEAR 5-Port FS205 versus NETGEAR 5-Port Gigabit GS205? One is 5 Port 10/100Mbps vs Gigabit. Meaning
Answer: With an Ethernet switch, you use 1 port as the input and it will output to the other ports (in this case 4 ports) which can be used simultaneously.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work with ubiquiti networks uap-ac-pro-e access point
Answer: The one I received about 2 weeks ago is V4
Question: Does this come with rack ears
Answer: I don't believe that this one has much of a CLI if any at all.
Question: How many us is the unit and how many watts does it consume out of the wall
Answer: Just so people are aware, there is limitations in being able to import backup config files among different firmware versions. In my scenario, I have a V2 unit and would have to buy another V2/V3 unit in order to have a backup unit that could import the backup config file of the V2 switch. Ideally, I would like the latest V5 switch, but it can't import a backup config file from V2/V3 hardware - how sad and stupid.
Question: Since this device apparently requires a Netgear cloud account to manage it, what happens if you try to configure it without Internet access
Answer: All of the new Netgear rack switches I've bought have come with the rack ears.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this switch be configured with multiple port mirroring destination ports? i.e. mirror port 1 to port 3 and port 4 simultaneously
Answer: the output is 9VDC and only for 9V
Question: Is GS308T for poe (pd)? which port support
Answer: Hi Amazon Customer, Thank you for reaching out to us. Yes, the Lucid 3 Inch Bamboo Charcoal Memory Foam Mattress Topper is CertiPUR-US Certified. You can view this certification details on our website if you cannot find it on the listing. If you have any other questions, please contact us. Thanks, Linenspa
Question: Is this switch 802.3ad lacp compatible? it's a requirement for port trunking on a qnap nas
Answer: It saved my back. My mattress is too firm, and I thought I was just getting old because my back muscles were knotting up and the lower back muscles were being torn, making me take days off from work to heal up. My knees also have a tendency to hyper-extend, but it never dawned on me that my mattress was making everything worse. It eases all pressure points and I stopped having problems with my body. I had even blamed my new car for having bad seats because my back hurt while driving. It was all due to the bad night sleep. I never liked my friend's Mem-foam mattress because it was too thick; I sank in and couldn't turn over. The 3" topper is perfect for me. I'm getting one for my sister.
Question: Do you need cloud management subscription for this switch
Answer: I can't tell you how long it lasts, because I've only had it on my bed a couple of days. But, you do sink into it when you get into bed, but it bounces right back. I don't sleep very well, normally no more than 2 hours at a time. Last night I slept for almost 5 hours! It is extremely comfortable and I am so glad I got it!

User questions & answers

Question: If I power the the 8-port switch with a 12 volt DC power supply, and the power consumption is < 2 watts, is a 200 ma power supply big enough
Answer: It does NOT assign IP addresses. But it's not totally dumb either. You don't have to use a crossover cable to connect this switch to another switch. It will auto-sense when it needs to do crossover.
Question: Does it plug into standar 120V power
Answer: Yup. It's an aluminum pan. Especially if you've ever washed it in a dishwasher, the aluminum part of the handle (between the pot & the plastic part) will become tarnished, or oxidized, & turn dark. Touch it after that, & your hands (or dish towel) become black. Won't hurt you, but it'll quickly make your towels look awful. Got a couple of these for my son (who does put them in the dishwasher). You can get some of the black off of the handle by rubbing it with a paper towel, but it won't be complete. I personally wouldn't buy these pans again because this bugs me, but other than this they're great pans. If the exposed aluminum of the handle is dark, I'd use paper towels to dry it.
