2 best surround sound recievers

Surround sound receivers, often referred to as AV receivers or audio-video receivers, are integral components of a home theater system. They serve as the central hub for audio and video processing, amplification, and distribution. Here's an overview of what you should know about surround sound receivers:

  1. Audio and Video Processing:

    • AV receivers are designed to process audio and video signals from various sources, including Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, cable/satellite boxes, and streaming devices.
    • They decode audio formats like Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and others to create immersive surround sound experiences.
    • These receivers often have video upscaling and passthrough capabilities to optimize the video quality from source devices to the TV or projector.
  2. Amplification:

    • AV receivers include built-in amplifiers to power speakers in a home theater setup.
    • They have multiple channels, typically ranging from 5.1 to 11.2, indicating the number of speakers they can support.
    • Some high-end models can even power more channels for larger and more complex home theater systems.
  3. Connectivity:

    • AV receivers come with a variety of input and output options, including HDMI, optical, coaxial, and analog connections.
    • HDMI ports are crucial for connecting modern audio and video sources, supporting features like 4K video, HDR, and ARC (Audio Return Channel).
  4. Surround Sound Formats:

    • These receivers support various surround sound formats, such as Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio, to create immersive audio experiences.
    • More advanced models support object-based audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, which add height channels for 3D sound.
  5. Room Calibration and EQ:

    • Many AV receivers feature room calibration systems, such as Audyssey or Yamaha's YPAO, which adjust audio settings to suit the acoustic properties of the room.
    • EQ (Equalization) technology helps fine-tune audio frequencies for optimal sound quality.
  6. Streaming and Network Capabilities:

    • Modern AV receivers often have built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for wireless audio streaming from smartphones, tablets, and other devices.
    • They may support various streaming services like Spotify, Tidal, and Pandora.
  7. Remote Control and User Interface:

    • AV receivers come with remote controls and, in some cases, mobile apps for convenient operation.
    • User-friendly interfaces on the receiver's display or through an on-screen menu make setup and configuration easier.
  8. Multi-Zone and Multi-Room Audio:

    • Some AV receivers allow you to set up multiple zones or rooms with independent audio sources and controls, allowing you to enjoy audio in different areas of your home simultaneously.
  9. Power and Wattage:

    • The power output of AV receivers is measured in watts per channel (WPC).
    • The power rating should match the requirements of your speakers to ensure optimal performance.

Overall, AV receivers are the heart of a home theater system, providing the audio and video processing, amplification, and connectivity necessary to create a captivating and immersive entertainment experience in your home. The choice of a receiver should align with your specific needs, room size, and speaker configuration.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i use the mb42x-c speakers even though impedance varies between 4 to 8 ohms? the receiver impedance says 6-16 ohms. will i be ok
Answer: My Sony PS-LX250H works very nicely with this receiver. There is no phono input. So I plugged the red and white RCA's into the SAT/CATV input jack.
Question: So this connects multiple speakers with Bluetooth
Answer: 40 watts
Question: are the hdmi inputs actual inputs or just pass thru
Answer: Dear Consumer, thanks for your question! Pls kindly noted that it doesn't work that way. The subwoofer acts like your echo studio. You pair a sound source device (phone, tablet, laptop,TV) to the subwoofer together with speakers to play sound from. For the method of connection pls check the description in this page, for more questions, pls feel free to contact [email protected].
Question: I'm looking for a good sony reciever that i can hook my turntable up to from the back
Answer: Yes. I used a single RCA Male to Male, then a Y adapter to go from RCA Female to 2 RCA Males. Works very well.

User questions & answers

Question: How do you keep the display on the front from turning off after a few seconds? My screen stays blank unless I hit display or adjust the volume
Answer: It’s 9 channels powered. 2 outputs for the subs If you are wiring 11 channels you will need an additional 2 channel amp or go to the 6700h
Question: Does this allow hdr passthrough for xbox one x
Answer: SURE CAN! I HAVE A FIRESTICK (4K) PLUGGED INTO A HDMI PORT ON THE BACK, AND IT PERFORMS PERFECTLY. I DO BOTH AMAZON AND NETFLIX FROM IT, BETTER THAN LG APPLICATION TV USES.
Question: Tv has amazon and netflix. when i turn the receiver to tv mod and try to watch either netflix or amazon i can get the picture but no sound. thoughs
Answer: I have not heard a 3500, and I own a 4500. According to this reference (https://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-receivers-amps-processors/2973392-official-2018-denon-s-series-x-series-avr-owner-s-thread-faq-posts-1-8-a.html) what the 4500 adds over 3500 is below. Looks like the 3500 does not have AL32 processing, which is significant imo. Also the 3500 will not get the "IMAX Enhanced" certification & modes coming to the X4500 and 6500 (no one knows if those are any good, but worth noting). --- Upgrading from the X3500H adds: 2 additional on board amps for 9CH on board processing (ie. 7.1.2 or 5.1.4; with capability to expand to 11CH processing (ie. 7.1.4) using an external 2CH amp), 11.2 main zone pre-outs, Zone 3 (same inputs as Zone 2 except not HDMI), a 2nd 12v trigger, front panel display of speaker inputs (or outputs), metal front panel with 2 line display, Custom 2 CH main zone settings (using FL/FR or dedicated Front B; LARGE/SMALL; crossover settings, sub – on/off, distance, level), two internal cooling fans, Auro 3D/Auromatic, AL32 Processing, Bass Sync; Remote Control able to store preset codes from other mfr devices (see below) and the ability to add Auro 3D Voice of God/Top Surround via the Subwoofer pre-out 2 only. Audyssey (but not Dynamic EQ, Dynamic Volume, LFC) enabled when DTS Virtual:X is selected. ---
Question: Found a bug. when playing music and i turn on the tv, gets stuck in muting/unmuting loop until a reboot. dae see this
Answer: Will not pass through 4k @ 120Hz or 8k @ 60Hz do to a bottleneck of the Panasonic chip used. This impacts the all the 2020 Denon AVRs and most mfg claiming HDMI 2.1 compatible. The work around us to connect your pc or console directly to your HDMI 2.1 TV and use the TVs eARC back to the AVR. Even then not all TVs pass lossless via eARC equally.
