| Answer: | Yes but prepare yourself. You can add Onvif compatible IP cameras on the same subnet to this NVR. They support live view and recording, but they do not support Analytics or other more advanced features. You might not have working audio, but video quality and connection are great. I have successfully added an Amcrest POE IP cam on the same subnet by using manual camera setup mode: On the NVR, Menu > Display and switching from Auto to Manual mode. However, even though I can get sound for this camera on my Amcrest apps and RTSP, I can't get sound working on the Swann NVR. You need to understand a few things about your network topology when you go this direction. 1. You need to be on the same subnet. 2. You need to have one DHCP server on the network somewhere that allocates your IP cameras and the NVR an IP address. YOUR DHCP SERVER SHOULD RESERVE THESE IP ADDRESSES. MAKE SURE ALL IP CAMERAS ARE GIVEN A FIXED IP ADDRESS. This will save you from a LOT of accidental and false-positive debugging. 3. Any non Swann POE IP Cameras need to be Onvif compatible. 4. You should add as many Swann cameras as you can in Auto mode, via the NVRs POE ports, before switching to manual mode and adding ONVIF cameras. 4b. Map out the ports and corresponding channels you want to use for Swann or your Onvif cams; I went pencil and paper here. 5. Any Swann cameras, remote via LAN or via NVR POE ports, should be connected to their planned channel POE port AT LEAST ONCE, to inherit the NVRs master password. I have taken the precaution of connecting them to the corresponding channel port my camera will eventually exist at. 6. If you add Swann cameras in manual mode without connecting them with Auto mode first, their default credentials are the default username: admin, password: admin. 7. If you have a LAN camera connected on a channel in manual mode DO NOT plug a camera into that POE port. (Remote LAN connected ip cam at channel 5 => empty port 5 on NVR) 8. Prepare for some trial and error, try to debug cameras and connect them right next to your NVR if possible. NOTE: - In manual mode you can add cameras via a "Search" button, which will list out all the Onvif and Swann private protocol IP Cameras. - I have NOT tested non-Swann cameras in the NVR POE ports, I have only tested addition of non-Swann Onvif cams over LAN. - Switching BACK to Auto mode from Manual mode will remove all the configured cameras (a real pain in the a**) - Some sort of bug prevents changing the default password of cameras in manual mode, so I resorted in "overriding" the default password by plugging the cameras into the NVR POE ports once to inherit the NVR master password. - If you don't know yet what channels will go where, just start adding Onvif IP cams on the "remaining channels" based on how many Swann cams you have. So if you have the 8 cameras in this set, start Onvif cams at channel 9. I hope this helps someone to decide on this NVR. This is something I went in blind with, and was pleasantly surprised by how configurable manual mode is. BE ADVISED, THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO COMMUNITY BASED OR SWANN DOCUMENTED HELP/GUIDE FOR MANUAL MODE. At least I haven't come across it yet. This answer might be the the first and only documentation that exists online... |
