User questions & answers

Question: does this product have a reading lamp, a flashlight and a red blicking light
Answer: Yes to all three questions reading lamp works well has red blinker and flashlight love the radio great for anytime but wonderfull when the lights go out
Question: If you insert AA batteries, does it override rechargeable batt., or can you switch between? Or do you remove the Nimh pack to make room for AA
Answer: The optional AA batteries are in addition to the included rechargeable battery. Power selector switch on front allows separate choice of "Batt" (i.e. AA cells), or "Crank/Solar" (which are the two ways of charging up the rechargeable battery). So, if you select "Crank/Solar" the radio is actually running off the rechargeable battery, and attempting to use either the solar cells or the hand crank to keep it charged.
Question: If the internal rechargeable batteries are dead and there are no back-up batteries installed will the radio work on solar power only
Answer: Thanks for asking the great question ! Yes, the solar panel is designed that way to work... even when the battery is taken out...KaitoOur new KA500L will last longer..and larger solar panel:https://www.amazon.com/Kaito-Powered-Emergency-Weather-Flashlight/dp/B01GUMPKVU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465594656&sr=8-1&keywords=ka500LKaito
Question: Description of KA500CAM says 5-way powered emergency radio. Photo of product says 4way powered NOAA WEATHER ALERT. Please exp[ain
Answer: It has a switch on it for NOAA weather alerts. The 4-way power is this: it has a handle you can turn to charge it, that's 1; it has a solar panel for charging, that's 2; it has a lithium ion (or something) battery that you can plug into the wall to charge, that's 3; and you can also put 3 AA batteries in it to power it, that's 4. 4-ways to charge it. I liked this radio, but wish I had bought the digital one for a few bucks more.

A radio makes a world of difference

Over the years, Kaito has proudly supplied millions of radios and lanterns to the State Department, the United States Army, the United Nations, American Red Cross and other government agencies and NGOs for their humanitarian relief efforts. It's hard to believe, but often times a radio is the only way to connect with the outside world in some parts of the globe, and radio broadcasting has become an important and effective tool helping the US and its allies build strong relationship with the locals and educate them to stand up against conflicts and extremism, which in return makes our troops and diplomats safer and more successful in their missions.

User questions & answers

Question: how is the sensitivy for dxing am and fm shortwave ? How is the sensitivy for recording on am/fm bands
Answer: I don't understand your question. The radio has a digital tuner. The sound quality from the two speakers is acceptable but could be better. If you're looking for quality source for recording, this is not the equipment for you and should look elsewhere.
Question: Is this radio waterproof
Answer: No it is not waterproof or water resistant.
Question: Does this have same on the radio
Answer: I do not see this having SAME programming for local alert stations. I have been using the very well made Sangean CL-100’s for more than 15 years and HIGHLY recommend them for the S.A.M.E. NOAA local alert system. I have one at home and one in the office. Easy to program (local county codes updated on NOAA website). Has given me adequate warning to protect property and move vehicles twice in major hail storms and a tornado warning.
Question: Is this good for a newbie looking to get into shortwave
Answer: Yes, but I would highly recommend the extended clip on antenna. It's pretty cheap but extends the reception of the radio. I run mine in the basement and run the extended antenna around the copper water pipes in the basement and get great reception. Hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: does the cell charging capabilty come from built-in Ni-MH *only*? Or can a cell charge from solar? Or from the AA batteries, or from the crank
Answer: cell charging capabilty come from built-in Ni-MH *only
Question: Is this am only or can it do ssb
Answer: This is SW and AM radio, not SSB, if you check our PL880, it works on SSB.Kaito
Question: Are the internal rechargable batteries replaceable? If so please provide a link
Answer: The 3 cell battery listed as the correct replacement is not what you need. I opened the back and found a single 18650 2000 mAh cell. These are readily available on Amazon with or without a separate charger.
Question: Does the ka600 have a sub port
Answer: The Kaito Voyager Pro Radio has a USB port,a mini input jack for charging most smart phones,MP3 players& more....has the mini - USB input jack for charging the internal battery pack, has a AC port, BUT,,, the antenna just comes straight up and cannot move around to get better reception.... I put it at a hands down as I live high in the mountains,,, and have other am/fm radios that pick up AM/FM signals,,, where this radio is just static,,,, ( fyi) good luck !

User questions & answers

Question: What electrical power cord should I get for this radio
Answer: No, it is not.
Question: Hi, is this made in China
Answer: This unit does not feature FM Radio.
Question: Can you purchase an AC adaptor / Charger for this unit to leave it plugged in at the house
Answer: No it is NOT waterproof! I would not set it any place where it could get wet from rain or a body of water or accidentally splashed. It would be as vulnerable to water as a laptop or transistor radio. The display is visible in the dark by pressing the light button. It will stay lit for a few seconds when you use the function buttons or you can use the light button to leave the light on. The display is back-lit LCD like a wrist watch. The function buttons are also lighted and you can read the whole word for Tune, Alarm, Timer, up, down, etc. Leaving the light on will shorten the battery life. The main display that is back-lit will show frequency, battery life, preset number, and signal strength. It is a great radio and I am very happy with my purchase. I would replace it with the exact same model if I had to buy another radio. It is the only item that I have bought in the last ten years that is worth every penny that I spent. Germaine
Question: I am looking for a radio that will remain silent unless there is an emergency weather alert and then it goes off. Will this unit do that for me
Answer: According to the manual, the AC adapter only supplies power to the radio. It can switch from AC to batteries, but says nothing about recharging, or rechargeable batteries.

Question: Does the kaito voyager pro ka600 have a carrying handle? where is the flashlight located? i don’t see anything that looks like a flashlight or sos
Answer: Yes
Question: Can this be used to play mp3 music or audiobooks or does it have an sd slot
Answer: Any Bluetooth connection.
Question: If I used it in the basement during a tornado warning would I get good reception
Answer: No. This is not compatible with Echo Dot. Please check out the iHome iAV2 or iHome IAV5 which are both compatible with Echo Dot (generation 2). Best Regards, iHome Support 1-800-288-2792
Question: What kind of batteries does the Kaito KA600 take
Answer: Yes. If your iPod touch has Bluetooth capabilities (look under settings) then you can use it wirelessly. If no Bluetooth you can plug the iPod into the speaker. Great sound and quality. Love mine
Question: How big is the radio
Answer: Agree, On the max volume sound gets bad and there is not any specific setting on the speaker but again its just too cheap to have such kinda settings.
Question: Do the sw radio bands have single side band (ssb) capability
Answer: iBT16-A-B (service number) has good battery life. I played various "study music" videos on youtube listening through this speaker at volume level 10 (out of 100) on Windows and the battery lasted for an impressive 19 hours! It was plenty loud for a quiet office.
Question: So if you want to plug this radio into the wall, you have to buy the AC adapter separately
Answer: This speaker does not have TWS
Question: What is the difference btwn the ka500 & the ka500ip

User questions & answers

Question: Can it run on normal AA batteries
Answer: That is a great question. I am unaware of something like that (would welcome it). For me in my home theater, the switch is located in a closed cabinet with all my AV equipment, behind a door in a separate room. I added acoustic material to absorb sound in that room (also contains a HVAC unit). The "click" is largely inaudible. However, sometimes during very low dialogue passages on movies when there are slight voltage changes, I can hear a soft change in volume, punctuated with very slight click. This happens even if there is no source playing at all on the default Channel A of the switch. That all is to say, regardless of maxing sensitivity settings to control switching, there may be a discernible variation. The switch is not perfect, but a good value for the low price, in my view.
Question: If i put it in an earthquake survival kit, how often will i have to take it out to recharge the battery? every 3 months, 6 months, year
Answer: It does not accept preamp inputs, only speaker level inputs which would be post amplifier. For example I use it with the speaker wires coming out of an AV receiver for input 1 and a Sonos connect amp for input 2.
Question: Is the 18650 3.7v lithium battery flat-top or button-top? can radio use2500 mah, 20a batteries from lg, samsung, other battery manufacturers
Answer: I'm not sure, about 2-3 hours....
Question: Has anyone owned this model and 700 which seems more about playing music and recording with SD card? More bands on this one it seems
Answer: Phone, tablet, laptop, etc. if it's Bluetooth capable device, it should work

Question: temperature range? can I use this in low temperatures for my winter campings
Answer: Yes it is all radios are made in China but CC Crane
Question: What is the difference between the KA600 priced @ $79.99 and the one at
Answer: The MANUAL WARNS not to charge more than 8 hours. I take operating manuals at their word, as the manufacturer knows what electronic components are used and where a danger point is to start a fire. I would heed the warning and not leave it plugged in all the time. Your house may be converted to ashes.

Question: Can the AC adadpter for the KA350 work on this KA
Answer: No. These covers are for storage and protection while the boat is stationary. Thank you, Ariel
Question: Will the battery pack charge a phone or do you have to use the crank
Answer: Yes. They are quite big.
Question: What us the power of the built in rechargeable ni-mah battery? As kaitos ka350 has a 2300 ni-mah battery
Answer: Hi, These covers are meant to be used when the boat is static - not while in movement. If you mean placing the covers while the boat is on a trailer, they will not hold. We are now launching a heavier duty D600 model that will be able to withstand movement. Thank you, Ariel Customer Care

Question: Using the solar charger, how long does it take to charge a cell phone
Answer: A good question. Looking at the dimensions for these speakers 13" depth and 10.6" width makes this size a little "in between". This specific size cover will likely be too small. The next size up is this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084D7PGYS But to be fair, the covers are slightly wider and the fit may be "baggy" and loose. These larger covers are 14" wide.. Hope I helped. Thank you, Ariel Customer Care
Question: Is there a dial light? Mono or stereo
Answer: This switch allows you to use two amps on one set of speakers similar to its input switch product. Speaker wire would allow the 2 amps and the speakers to be connected (3 sets or 6 wires)
Question: What is the difference between the ka500 and the ka500ip
