Answer:	I think for a little while. I have a Sangean HDR-18 radio, very similiar to this receiver in operation. I have unplugged it to move it and I did not loose any preset radio stations.

Answer:	Battery back up-yes but that is only to hold time and settings so I don't think you can use it for a portable speaker.
