User questions & answers
Question: | What subwoofer do I add to this soundbar |
Answer: | My advise would be... save hard the money for the sonos subwoofer... 'cause it really is worth every buck! |
Question: | How does the sound quality of the beam compare to the play 1,3,5 when it comes to just playing music |
Answer: | Great for music, not just for TV. If I were blindfolded, I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference. A pair of Play:1's probably has the best stereo sound. |
Question: | What is the voltage on the beams? 110v-240v |
Answer: | 100-240 volts 50-60 Hz AC power |
Question: | My tv only has a toslink output and not hdmi arc, would the beam work |
Answer: | Yes, for TVs that don't have an HDMI-ARC port, you can use the included optical audio adapter to connect Sonos Beam to the optical port on your TV. |

Answer: | Arc on its own is a 5.0.2 soundbar, that delivers immersive, 3D sound with 2 upfiring speakers. When bonded with two surrounds and a Sub, you'll be able to have a 5.1 surround sound configuration. |
Question: | Does it support wireless dolby atmos (over bluetooth or airplay) or only over cables |
Answer: | While Arc can support Dolby Atmos audio from most devices, Apple AirPlay 2 doesn't currently support Dolby Atmos playback. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I already have a nice subwoofer. Is there any way (even via wireless adapter of some type) that I can use it with the Sonos Playbar |
Answer: | Paul, not directly, there are a couple options.. if the subwoofer is powered then you need to buy a Sonos connect and plug the subwoofer into that and then pair that in your settings to your playbar the other option if your subwoofer is not powered you would have to purchase a sonos connect amp and do the same thing, I have done both of these options in my home and they work very well. The sonos connect is half the price Of the sonos sub, you could look at it that way :-) |
Question: | Watching movies.. do you have the problem of having to constantly adjust the volume to turn down action and turn up dialog |
Answer: | 30 years I’ve never had a product which both sounds amazing and deals with this problem, and it is a big problem with a lot of content. Everyone has their own special setting but the only ones that truly work also degrade the great sound. I don’t think electronics can solve this as well as having a sound-dampening room, because that’s what they are mastered for (curtained theatre) and most of us have reflective drywall. |
Question: | Is there a way to connect all my inputs to a Denon 1612, connect that to the TV, and have the soundbar play sound from all sources |
Answer: | Yes and no. The PlayBar has only one input: fiberoptic. The Denon AVR-1612 does not include a fiberoptic output, so you cannot directly connect the receiver to the PlayBar. But your TV should have a fiberoptic output, so if you connect all the devices to the Denon via HDMI cables, then connect an HDMI cable from receiver to TV, then fiberoptic cable from TV to PlayBar, you should get sound from all sources connected to the receiver. If you do it this way, make sure that HDMI Audio Output is set to ON in the receiver set-up menu. However, connected this way, you will *NOT* get sound from the Receiver's built-in AM/FM tuner, nor will you get sound from any older devices that are connected to the receiver using analog audio/video cables (typically red/white/yellow RCA cables). There really is no advantage to using the Denon receiver in this set-up, unless your TV only has one or two HDMI inputs and you're trying to add more. But you could do that more simply (and inexpensively) with a simple HDMI switch. For simplicity, I'd recommend connecting all devices to the TV with HDMI cables, and connect the fiberoptic output of the TV to the PlayBar. This way the TV handles all source switching and whatever source is selected on the TV will play through the PlayBar. Hope that helps. |
Question: | Does anyone know how good the playbar sounds without the subwoofer |
Answer: | It sounds pretty good without the subwoofer. We have a small room and have the playbar....two Play 3's and one play 5 and it sounds great. For our small house the subwoofer would be too much and that's saying something as my husband really likes to have some bass going. If you had a huge area to cover you might want the subwoofer. We used to have a bose system with a subwoofer and this sounds as good at that if not better. If you are really into your sound you probably will want something in addition to the playbar like the play 3's and/or play 5's. We went that route because we could move them into other rooms of the house easily. FYI - the playbar is not a petite piece so make sure you have room for it. I hope this helps! |

Hear and feel the difference with Sub, the wireless subwoofer for deep bass. Experience lower lows and higher highs when you connect Sub to your Sonos system over WiFi. Place the award-winning design upright or lay it on its side and enjoy pure bass with no vibration or rattle.
User questions & answers
Question: | Is this rechargeable |
Answer: | No, it has to be plugged in to work, there are no batteries |
Question: | Are other Bluetooth speakers (sound bars) compatibility with this |
Answer: | The Sub is only designed to pair with Sonos products. It connects via your home wifi, and not via a Bluetooth connection. |
Question: | Is it Apple AirPlay compatible |
Answer: | The Sub is intended to enhance the audio of other Sonos speakers. It can be bonded with AirPlay compatible speakers, such as the Play:5, Sonos One, or Arc. |
Question: | What kind of upgrade is this over the last generation Sub |
Answer: | Sub (Gen 3) brings the same iconic design and bold bass as Sub (Gen 2) with an increase in memory, processing power, and a more powerful wireless radio. Sub (Gen 1) was first released in 2012, with a minor refresh with Sub (Gen 2) in 2016. If you purchased the Sub before 2016, it is likely to be a Gen 1 version. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would a pair of Play1s used for rear speakers in a 5.1 set up be much different from Play3s |
Answer: | I use 3's as rear speakers in my very large living room with high vaulted ceiling. But I have two pairs of 1's that I use as stereo speakers in my bedroom and workshop. In most rooms, 1's would work just fine as surround speakers in a 5.1 system. 3's have a little more oomph than 1's, but you probably won't be unhappy with either. |
Question: | Has anyone compared a stereo pair of Play:1s with a single Play:5? Which option provides better sound for a large room |
Answer: | The Play5 has more fidelity than S1, sound is fuller. However with the pair of S1's you will get better stereo separation since you can place them further apart. The S1 sounds better than the Play3. I own them all, so speaking from first hand experience. |
Question: | How does this speaker compares to the Bose Sounlink Mini |
Answer: | One point to any first-time Sonos buyers: a very big difference from the Bose Soundlink Mini is that the Sonos does NOT connect to an Echo Dot like the Bose (or any bluetooth speaker) - you only control music. If you are expecting to hear your Flash Briefing or anything else besides music out of the Sonos, you will be very disappointed. Also, for what it's worth, in my opinion, at a reasonable room-filling volume I thought the sound quality was similar. |
Question: | I want a bookshelf system for a large living/kitchen/dining room with enough volume for a party of 40-50 guests. Should I get 2 Play:1s or 2 Play:3s |
Answer: | If you can swing 2 Play:3s, that would be what to get. The sound is much better. Play:1 sounds great for what it is. But size and quantity matters. And whoever says that 2 Play:3s cannot be paired in stereo is completely wrong. And it depends on what kind of party this is. Is this for quiet ambience? Or is this a fun thumping party? That should help with which speakers to get. Even the Play:3 is kind of dicey for a loud thumping party. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does this compare to sono sound bar |
Answer: | It does not compare to a high end Sonos system at all. This speaker provides great audio enhancement for a 40" Vizio I have in a corner in my living room. It is compact and fits nicely in front of the TV and it has an dialog enhancer setting for those of us who struggle a bit with hearing dialog. It does not compare with the higher end Bose units with surround speakers or the Sonos high end systems which are widely considered the best, but those are for bigger rooms than I have my Bose Small Soundbar in. I am renovating a rec room on in my lower level and I intend to use a Sonos with surround speakers down there with a 55" screen where there is more room. The small Bose is a wonderful item, but not designed for large screen, large room surround systems. |
Question: | Does it have rca output jacks? Trying to connect wireless headphones for tv |
Answer: | RCA to HDMI converters do not work, personally tried. The only thing that helped was an Optical-to-Coaxial or Coax-to-Optical Digital Audio Converter Adapter,Premium Bi-Directional Digital Coaxial to/from SPDIF Optical Audio Signal Converter/Repeater. I purchased one on Amazon sold by ROOFULL Inc. My tv is older, does not have an optical or HDMI ARC port. I attempted the RCA to HDMI converter and it did not work. |
Question: | Can i connect it to my phone |
Answer: | Yes, you an connect your phone to your soundbar via Bluetooth. |
Question: | does this support 220v |
Answer: | Thanks for asking. The TV speaker can support 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How much does the sonos beam weight? i need to buy a bracket to attach beneath my 65" tv which is on a full-motion wall mount |
Answer: | The weight of the Sonos Beam is 6lb. 3oz. |
Question: | What is the gift card value |
Answer: | This has been asked many times - very dodgy to not have it answered. I suspect the gift card has no value, and this is being used to inflate the base price. The product is available elsewhere on Amazon without the gift card for 390 - I suggest people buy that one until the seller answers this question. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I recently bought this sound bar.sound is awesome, I can’t do audio out from tv. I connected optical wire and hdmi cable as well |
Answer: | This sound bar does not support Dolby audio. Most newer Tv's within the last 5 years or so use Dolby audio. In order to get this to work, you have to switch the sound settings in the TV to standard audio. Then it sounds like a tin can. Do not buy this soundbar if you are looking for it to worl and sound good at the same time. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would 2 play 3 speakers sound better then one play 5? I already own a play |
Answer: | Yes, you would have true stereo sound and a fuller volume to the room. |
Question: | Will this work with a winows os for control or must it be android or applie |
Answer: | I use Phonos on Windows Phone and it does the job (if you are asking about actual Windows Mobile 6.5, then there is no app for that). The developers have worked very hard on functionality and are constantly improving it. The main shortcoming is the time it takes to connect to the Sonos network. It can take 5-10 seconds to connect which is annoying, oh, and you must remember to be connected to your local network (so turn the Wi-Fi on).Otherwise, Phone works fine and is worth the $4.99. The Android app is better, but you take what you can get. |
Question: | if i buy a sonos 3, have wi-fi in my house, and a pandora account I need nothing else to play music? no bridge, no connectors, no nothing |
Answer: | Christina is correct. The bridge is small and everything is easy to set up. I will say, in my opinion the Sonos 5 has superior sound quality, but the 3 is certainly adequate. I have 2 5's and one 3. After purchasing the first one with the bridge, adding the other two was as easy as plugging them in and then following the simple software instructions to add them to the group. I play from my Pandora account and also a number of radio stations. Good luck, enjoy! |
Question: | can you plug into this device in addition to it being wireless? does it have an audio port |
Answer: | There are no line-in jacks on the Play:3. There's an ethernet port, but that's all. |
Product features
Stereo sound.
Even if you’re not an all-out audiophile, you still deserve great sound. Play:3 delivers, in stereo. Three Class-D amplifiers and three custom-built drivers create a full, wide sound stage so the instruments and vocals really shine. There’s also a bass radiator to pump out the lows.
Multiple orientations.
Stand it tall or set it on its side. Either way, Play:3 automatically optimizes the sound. When it's horizontal, it's in stereo. When it's vertical, it's in mono. The rubber feet on two sides make it safe for any surface.
