User questions & answers
Question: | What subwoofer do I add to this soundbar |
Answer: | My advise would be... save hard the money for the sonos subwoofer... 'cause it really is worth every buck! |
Question: | How does the sound quality of the beam compare to the play 1,3,5 when it comes to just playing music |
Answer: | Great for music, not just for TV. If I were blindfolded, I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference. A pair of Play:1's probably has the best stereo sound. |
Question: | What is the voltage on the beams? 110v-240v |
Answer: | 100-240 volts 50-60 Hz AC power |
Question: | My tv only has a toslink output and not hdmi arc, would the beam work |
Answer: | Yes, for TVs that don't have an HDMI-ARC port, you can use the included optical audio adapter to connect Sonos Beam to the optical port on your TV. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I already have a nice subwoofer. Is there any way (even via wireless adapter of some type) that I can use it with the Sonos Playbar |
Answer: | Paul, not directly, there are a couple options.. if the subwoofer is powered then you need to buy a Sonos connect and plug the subwoofer into that and then pair that in your settings to your playbar the other option if your subwoofer is not powered you would have to purchase a sonos connect amp and do the same thing, I have done both of these options in my home and they work very well. The sonos connect is half the price Of the sonos sub, you could look at it that way :-) |
Question: | Watching movies.. do you have the problem of having to constantly adjust the volume to turn down action and turn up dialog |
Answer: | 30 years I’ve never had a product which both sounds amazing and deals with this problem, and it is a big problem with a lot of content. Everyone has their own special setting but the only ones that truly work also degrade the great sound. I don’t think electronics can solve this as well as having a sound-dampening room, because that’s what they are mastered for (curtained theatre) and most of us have reflective drywall. |
Question: | Is there a way to connect all my inputs to a Denon 1612, connect that to the TV, and have the soundbar play sound from all sources |
Answer: | Yes and no. The PlayBar has only one input: fiberoptic. The Denon AVR-1612 does not include a fiberoptic output, so you cannot directly connect the receiver to the PlayBar. But your TV should have a fiberoptic output, so if you connect all the devices to the Denon via HDMI cables, then connect an HDMI cable from receiver to TV, then fiberoptic cable from TV to PlayBar, you should get sound from all sources connected to the receiver. If you do it this way, make sure that HDMI Audio Output is set to ON in the receiver set-up menu. However, connected this way, you will *NOT* get sound from the Receiver's built-in AM/FM tuner, nor will you get sound from any older devices that are connected to the receiver using analog audio/video cables (typically red/white/yellow RCA cables). There really is no advantage to using the Denon receiver in this set-up, unless your TV only has one or two HDMI inputs and you're trying to add more. But you could do that more simply (and inexpensively) with a simple HDMI switch. For simplicity, I'd recommend connecting all devices to the TV with HDMI cables, and connect the fiberoptic output of the TV to the PlayBar. This way the TV handles all source switching and whatever source is selected on the TV will play through the PlayBar. Hope that helps. |
Question: | Does anyone know how good the playbar sounds without the subwoofer |
Answer: | It sounds pretty good without the subwoofer. We have a small room and have the playbar....two Play 3's and one play 5 and it sounds great. For our small house the subwoofer would be too much and that's saying something as my husband really likes to have some bass going. If you had a huge area to cover you might want the subwoofer. We used to have a bose system with a subwoofer and this sounds as good at that if not better. If you are really into your sound you probably will want something in addition to the playbar like the play 3's and/or play 5's. We went that route because we could move them into other rooms of the house easily. FYI - the playbar is not a petite piece so make sure you have room for it. I hope this helps! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it work the Sonos ones I have and the sub or are they needed |
Answer: | Arc on its own is a 5.0.2 speaker and can be bonded with a pair of Sonos Ones, or any set of S2 compatible speakers and Sub to create a 5.1 surround configuration. |
Question: | I have a playbar with 5.1 set up using 2 play 1’s as rear speakers. Will this function as 5.1 as well |
Answer: | Arc on its own is a 5.0.2 soundbar, that delivers immersive, 3D sound with 2 upfiring speakers. When bonded with two surrounds and a Sub, you'll be able to have a 5.1 surround sound configuration. |
Question: | Does it support wireless dolby atmos (over bluetooth or airplay) or only over cables |
Answer: | While Arc can support Dolby Atmos audio from most devices, Apple AirPlay 2 doesn't currently support Dolby Atmos playback. |
Question: | does it support playing lossless high resolution audio, files like flac, alac etc, and not just mp |
Answer: | Yes, Sonos products including Arc support lossless audio formats such as FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, and WAV. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have BT. And also which better base or bar |
Answer: | I’ve had a lot of expensive systems, and this setup amazes me every day. The sub is noticeably substantial and for me was a must have. It has this nifty night mode to lower the bass at night but still fills in. I have one in my master bedroom and in my family room, both with the sub and the ones. The Ones are excellent surround sound, and with the Dolby Atmos-like performance, its just like the theatre. Ones mount high using a $25 mount and it’s super easy and clean. Can’t go wrong here - it’s just the best thing ever. This replaced Yamaha AV Recv and Martin Logan’s which all were 10x the price. |
Question: | Does the Playbar come with a mount to attach to the wall? Does the expert setup include a mount |
Answer: | about 12-14 inches long, 6 inches high, a bit higher when on stand and 2-3 inches deep. it's a very cheap device. Don't expect too much.I still can't get the clock to set. Looking back, I would not have purchased. |
Question: | Can two sound bars be used together vs. additional 2 ones for surround sound |
Answer: | power source |
Question: | On the equipment, it say (Pair with two Ones and a Sub for a 5.1 surround system,) with out the subwoofer and the ones... what type of sound i get |
Answer: | Well, I guess Cindy Gaus and Daniel Rhoten are always late for school or work, because it absolutely does have an alarm clock. It actually even says that it does in the description. And, you can see on the display where you turn it on/off, and set the time. But then again, you could have also read this yourself. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would 2 play 3 speakers sound better then one play 5? I already own a play |
Answer: | Yes, you would have true stereo sound and a fuller volume to the room. |
Question: | Will this work with a winows os for control or must it be android or applie |
Answer: | I use Phonos on Windows Phone and it does the job (if you are asking about actual Windows Mobile 6.5, then there is no app for that). The developers have worked very hard on functionality and are constantly improving it. The main shortcoming is the time it takes to connect to the Sonos network. It can take 5-10 seconds to connect which is annoying, oh, and you must remember to be connected to your local network (so turn the Wi-Fi on).Otherwise, Phone works fine and is worth the $4.99. The Android app is better, but you take what you can get. |
Question: | if i buy a sonos 3, have wi-fi in my house, and a pandora account I need nothing else to play music? no bridge, no connectors, no nothing |
Answer: | Christina is correct. The bridge is small and everything is easy to set up. I will say, in my opinion the Sonos 5 has superior sound quality, but the 3 is certainly adequate. I have 2 5's and one 3. After purchasing the first one with the bridge, adding the other two was as easy as plugging them in and then following the simple software instructions to add them to the group. I play from my Pandora account and also a number of radio stations. Good luck, enjoy! |
Question: | can you plug into this device in addition to it being wireless? does it have an audio port |
Answer: | There are no line-in jacks on the Play:3. There's an ethernet port, but that's all. |
Product features
Stereo sound.
Even if you’re not an all-out audiophile, you still deserve great sound. Play:3 delivers, in stereo. Three Class-D amplifiers and three custom-built drivers create a full, wide sound stage so the instruments and vocals really shine. There’s also a bass radiator to pump out the lows.
Multiple orientations.
Stand it tall or set it on its side. Either way, Play:3 automatically optimizes the sound. When it's horizontal, it's in stereo. When it's vertical, it's in mono. The rubber feet on two sides make it safe for any surface.

User questions & answers
Question: | Would a pair of Play1s used for rear speakers in a 5.1 set up be much different from Play3s |
Answer: | I use 3's as rear speakers in my very large living room with high vaulted ceiling. But I have two pairs of 1's that I use as stereo speakers in my bedroom and workshop. In most rooms, 1's would work just fine as surround speakers in a 5.1 system. 3's have a little more oomph than 1's, but you probably won't be unhappy with either. |
Question: | Has anyone compared a stereo pair of Play:1s with a single Play:5? Which option provides better sound for a large room |
Answer: | The Play5 has more fidelity than S1, sound is fuller. However with the pair of S1's you will get better stereo separation since you can place them further apart. The S1 sounds better than the Play3. I own them all, so speaking from first hand experience. |
Question: | How does this speaker compares to the Bose Sounlink Mini |
Answer: | One point to any first-time Sonos buyers: a very big difference from the Bose Soundlink Mini is that the Sonos does NOT connect to an Echo Dot like the Bose (or any bluetooth speaker) - you only control music. If you are expecting to hear your Flash Briefing or anything else besides music out of the Sonos, you will be very disappointed. Also, for what it's worth, in my opinion, at a reasonable room-filling volume I thought the sound quality was similar. |
Question: | I want a bookshelf system for a large living/kitchen/dining room with enough volume for a party of 40-50 guests. Should I get 2 Play:1s or 2 Play:3s |
Answer: | If you can swing 2 Play:3s, that would be what to get. The sound is much better. Play:1 sounds great for what it is. But size and quantity matters. And whoever says that 2 Play:3s cannot be paired in stereo is completely wrong. And it depends on what kind of party this is. Is this for quiet ambience? Or is this a fun thumping party? That should help with which speakers to get. Even the Play:3 is kind of dicey for a loud thumping party. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the voltage for this |
Answer: | Power SupplyAC 100-240V, 50-60Hz, universal input |
Question: | If I use the line-in function on the Play 5 will the music play on other sonos speakers |
Answer: | The Line-In input (found on PLay 5 1st and 2nd gen, Connect and Cnnect Amp) allows you to connect an external audio source (CD player, TV, etc.). You can stream the material to any combination Sonos devices in your Sonos system. Simply select the Line-In source in your controller software (found in your list of music sources such as Music Library, Radio, Sonos Playlist, etc.).Hope this helps |
Question: | I am looking for a speaker to connect to echo dot via line in. will this need to be switched to a line in mode every time i ask alexa to play music |
Answer: | You can directly connect the Echo Dot line out to the Play 5 line in. There are two problems: it requires that you set the Sonos to line in mode and the Dot line out is hardwired to bypass the internal speaker. That means if you use the Sonos for something else you can't hear Alexa. What I did to make this a little better was to bluetooth the Dot to a line out device (usually used to bluetooh your phone to your car speakers) connected to the Sonos. You can verbally switch the Dot to internal speaker or bluetooth. The Sonos and Dot can still be used without moving wires around. |
Question: | Can it stream amazon prime music |
Answer: | yes and no. if you want different music playing in different rooms you have to get multi user prime music account. more $ |

User questions & answers
Question: | I care most about dialogue clarity. What is the dialogue setting? Is it a central channel |
Answer: | I got the sound bar because our old sound bar had bad voice clarity. It acts similar to a central channel. Really depends on movie or channel you are watching. I find it works great on some shows/movies and just ok on others. |
Question: | A 56 inch tv and blu ray player, how can i make this speaker work for both of them and will i need additional connections |
Answer: | Hello Sekou, the Solo 5 is designed to play audio from any sources connected to your television. You can leave your Blu-ray player connected to the TV and it will play right through our system. Have a great day! |
Question: | Bose solo 5 or Bose solo |
Answer: | Hello Cindy,This listing would be for the Solo 5 TV Sound System. The Solo 5 would feature 2x 2¼" drivers, as compared to the Solo 15 II which features 5x 2¼" drivers. The Solo 15 II would also allow you to rest a TV on top of the soundbar (if it is not over the maximum weight), as compared to the Solo 5 which would typically sit right in front of the TV or mounted on the wall.Thank you |
Question: | Can this hook up to a subwoofer |
Answer: | I like most of Bose products but this soundbar is just ok. If you don't have the space or want a soundbar with a separate subwoofer I strongly suggest you go to Walmart and get the 36" vizio soundbar they have with its own twin built in 3 1/2" subw oofers for 98 dollars. It sounds amazing with excellent bass, rich clear vocals, and detailed highs. It also has virtual surround sound. It cool looking and sounds much better than this one. Another reviewer said it compared to his 400 dollar sonos beam soundbar. Yamaha also makes a similar excellent soundbar for 150 to 200 dollars. |

Question: | does it have input for something like amazing firestick |
Answer: | The total system power for the Cinema 400 is 400 watts. |
Question: | How do you stop it from turning off every 15 minutes |
Answer: | Neither the Playbar and Playbase stream via Bluetooth. They connect using WiFi to your sources and via an app on your phone or laptop. It’s very well done actually and uses much less power that BT. The play bar is far superior sound and value wise as the play base. The only advantage the playbase has is it’s shape and size for smaller media centers. |

Question: | I have a tcl 8 series tv. when connecting to the arc hdmi port, the volume coming out of the sound bar is very low compared to the tv speakers. why |
Answer: | Hi Jordan, The sound quality will depend on the source that you're playing. To isolate the issue, turn off and on the night mode of the soundbar and check if there is difference. Simply press the night button on the soundbar remote to set the function. You can also try some of the different TV audio output settings or possibly changing the video settings such as the movie mode vs standard. This can often change the way TV’s output the audio. Regards, David |
Question: | No sound by hdmi for tv source. Can some one help me? Bluetooth works fine |
Answer: | Hi Thrysca, We regret to hear about this. When the system and TV are connected with the HDMI cable only, check the following: – The HDMI jack of the connected TV is labeled with “eARC” or “ARC”. – The Control for HDMI function of the TV is set to on. – The eARC or ARC function of the TV is enabled. – [HDMI] - [EARC] is set to [ON] – [HDMI] - [CONTROL FOR HDMI] is set to [ON] – If your TV is not compatible with eARC, set [HDMI] - [EARC] to [OFF] – If your TV is not compatible with eARC or ARC, connect an optical digital cable – If the TV is not compatible with eARC or ARC, TV sound will not be output from the system even if the system is connected to the TV’s HDMI IN jack. Some TV’s will require you to select external speakers if you are using an external sound system so please check your TV settings for the choice between TV sound or external speakers and choose the external speaker option. Note that different TV manufacturers may have a different name such as, External sound, sound system, External audio out, or some other name to this effect. Question: | What's the difference between this and ht-z9f |
Answer: | Hi GoBears, Thank you for your question. While both the HT-G700 and HT-Z9F are 3.1 soundbar systems, there are some differences between the two products. The HT-Z9F has WiFi capabilities and works with both Google and Amazon Voice Assistants. The HT-Z9F has 2 HDMI Input ports, and also supports system expansion with the SA-Z9R rear speaker kit.
