User questions & answers
Question: | How does this compare to sono sound bar |
Answer: | It does not compare to a high end Sonos system at all. This speaker provides great audio enhancement for a 40" Vizio I have in a corner in my living room. It is compact and fits nicely in front of the TV and it has an dialog enhancer setting for those of us who struggle a bit with hearing dialog. It does not compare with the higher end Bose units with surround speakers or the Sonos high end systems which are widely considered the best, but those are for bigger rooms than I have my Bose Small Soundbar in. I am renovating a rec room on in my lower level and I intend to use a Sonos with surround speakers down there with a 55" screen where there is more room. The small Bose is a wonderful item, but not designed for large screen, large room surround systems. |
Question: | Does it have rca output jacks? Trying to connect wireless headphones for tv |
Answer: | RCA to HDMI converters do not work, personally tried. The only thing that helped was an Optical-to-Coaxial or Coax-to-Optical Digital Audio Converter Adapter,Premium Bi-Directional Digital Coaxial to/from SPDIF Optical Audio Signal Converter/Repeater. I purchased one on Amazon sold by ROOFULL Inc. My tv is older, does not have an optical or HDMI ARC port. I attempted the RCA to HDMI converter and it did not work. |
Question: | Can i connect it to my phone |
Answer: | Yes, you an connect your phone to your soundbar via Bluetooth. |
Question: | does this support 220v |
Answer: | Thanks for asking. The TV speaker can support 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I care most about dialogue clarity. What is the dialogue setting? Is it a central channel |
Answer: | I got the sound bar because our old sound bar had bad voice clarity. It acts similar to a central channel. Really depends on movie or channel you are watching. I find it works great on some shows/movies and just ok on others. |
Question: | A 56 inch tv and blu ray player, how can i make this speaker work for both of them and will i need additional connections |
Answer: | Hello Sekou, the Solo 5 is designed to play audio from any sources connected to your television. You can leave your Blu-ray player connected to the TV and it will play right through our system. Have a great day! |
Question: | Bose solo 5 or Bose solo |
Answer: | Hello Cindy,This listing would be for the Solo 5 TV Sound System. The Solo 5 would feature 2x 2¼" drivers, as compared to the Solo 15 II which features 5x 2¼" drivers. The Solo 15 II would also allow you to rest a TV on top of the soundbar (if it is not over the maximum weight), as compared to the Solo 5 which would typically sit right in front of the TV or mounted on the wall.Thank you |
Question: | Can this hook up to a subwoofer |
Answer: | I like most of Bose products but this soundbar is just ok. If you don't have the space or want a soundbar with a separate subwoofer I strongly suggest you go to Walmart and get the 36" vizio soundbar they have with its own twin built in 3 1/2" subw oofers for 98 dollars. It sounds amazing with excellent bass, rich clear vocals, and detailed highs. It also has virtual surround sound. It cool looking and sounds much better than this one. Another reviewer said it compared to his 400 dollar sonos beam soundbar. Yamaha also makes a similar excellent soundbar for 150 to 200 dollars. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I already have a nice subwoofer. Is there any way (even via wireless adapter of some type) that I can use it with the Sonos Playbar |
Answer: | Paul, not directly, there are a couple options.. if the subwoofer is powered then you need to buy a Sonos connect and plug the subwoofer into that and then pair that in your settings to your playbar the other option if your subwoofer is not powered you would have to purchase a sonos connect amp and do the same thing, I have done both of these options in my home and they work very well. The sonos connect is half the price Of the sonos sub, you could look at it that way :-) |
Question: | Watching movies.. do you have the problem of having to constantly adjust the volume to turn down action and turn up dialog |
Answer: | 30 years I’ve never had a product which both sounds amazing and deals with this problem, and it is a big problem with a lot of content. Everyone has their own special setting but the only ones that truly work also degrade the great sound. I don’t think electronics can solve this as well as having a sound-dampening room, because that’s what they are mastered for (curtained theatre) and most of us have reflective drywall. |
Question: | Is there a way to connect all my inputs to a Denon 1612, connect that to the TV, and have the soundbar play sound from all sources |
Answer: | Yes and no. The PlayBar has only one input: fiberoptic. The Denon AVR-1612 does not include a fiberoptic output, so you cannot directly connect the receiver to the PlayBar. But your TV should have a fiberoptic output, so if you connect all the devices to the Denon via HDMI cables, then connect an HDMI cable from receiver to TV, then fiberoptic cable from TV to PlayBar, you should get sound from all sources connected to the receiver. If you do it this way, make sure that HDMI Audio Output is set to ON in the receiver set-up menu. However, connected this way, you will *NOT* get sound from the Receiver's built-in AM/FM tuner, nor will you get sound from any older devices that are connected to the receiver using analog audio/video cables (typically red/white/yellow RCA cables). There really is no advantage to using the Denon receiver in this set-up, unless your TV only has one or two HDMI inputs and you're trying to add more. But you could do that more simply (and inexpensively) with a simple HDMI switch. For simplicity, I'd recommend connecting all devices to the TV with HDMI cables, and connect the fiberoptic output of the TV to the PlayBar. This way the TV handles all source switching and whatever source is selected on the TV will play through the PlayBar. Hope that helps. |
Question: | Does anyone know how good the playbar sounds without the subwoofer |
Answer: | It sounds pretty good without the subwoofer. We have a small room and have the playbar....two Play 3's and one play 5 and it sounds great. For our small house the subwoofer would be too much and that's saying something as my husband really likes to have some bass going. If you had a huge area to cover you might want the subwoofer. We used to have a bose system with a subwoofer and this sounds as good at that if not better. If you are really into your sound you probably will want something in addition to the playbar like the play 3's and/or play 5's. We went that route because we could move them into other rooms of the house easily. FYI - the playbar is not a petite piece so make sure you have room for it. I hope this helps! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the voltage for this |
Answer: | Power SupplyAC 100-240V, 50-60Hz, universal input |
Question: | If I use the line-in function on the Play 5 will the music play on other sonos speakers |
Answer: | The Line-In input (found on PLay 5 1st and 2nd gen, Connect and Cnnect Amp) allows you to connect an external audio source (CD player, TV, etc.). You can stream the material to any combination Sonos devices in your Sonos system. Simply select the Line-In source in your controller software (found in your list of music sources such as Music Library, Radio, Sonos Playlist, etc.).Hope this helps |
Question: | I am looking for a speaker to connect to echo dot via line in. will this need to be switched to a line in mode every time i ask alexa to play music |
Answer: | You can directly connect the Echo Dot line out to the Play 5 line in. There are two problems: it requires that you set the Sonos to line in mode and the Dot line out is hardwired to bypass the internal speaker. That means if you use the Sonos for something else you can't hear Alexa. What I did to make this a little better was to bluetooth the Dot to a line out device (usually used to bluetooh your phone to your car speakers) connected to the Sonos. You can verbally switch the Dot to internal speaker or bluetooth. The Sonos and Dot can still be used without moving wires around. |
Question: | Can it stream amazon prime music |
Answer: | yes and no. if you want different music playing in different rooms you have to get multi user prime music account. more $ |

User questions & answers
Question: | I don't have "hdmi arc" or the optical out on my tv. is there another way i can hook up this soundbar |
Answer: | Hi Noah,It depends on what type of audio output you do have. If you have an analog audio output on your TV you could get an analog to optical converter. If you have a digital coaxial connection then you would need a digital coax to optical converter. Thanks for the question! |
Question: | Can SoundTouch 300 connect to personal computer by wired connections to play sound out of the computer? especially a 3.5mm jack |
Answer: | Hello Long,The SoundTouch 300 Soundbar is engineered to be used as a TV speaker, while there is not a 3.5mm input you can still connect to your computer wirelessly via Bluetooth. Question: | I read several comments on bose web site from customers not being able to connect via samsung 4k tv, is this true and has it been resolved |
Answer: | I purchased this soundbar with the Samsung Q80R model of TV and the HDMI ARC works perfectly. This particular Samsung model is the new 2019 model QLED TV. Just make sure you plug your HDMI cord into the port marked HDMI (ARC) on your TV and HDMI (ARC) OUT on your Bose Soundtouch soundbar. |

Question: | Is bose solo tv speaker a active speaker ? because i want to buy a karaoke machine, but it need to connect the active speaker |
Answer: | Yes, it is a powered speaker, what you call "active." It has bluetooth to enjoy music also. But if you want to do karaoke, buy a Bose S1 Pro, it is fabulous, it is battery powered, take it anywhere easily, sound is awesome. And 2 XLR microphone inputs. You just cannot do karaoke with the Bose Solo, really. |
Question: | What is the difference between the bose solo tv speaker and the bose solo 5 soundbar |
Answer: | i have both type units, both from bose. as they both provide good sound clarity across all sound ranges, the solo speaker unit will give slightly better bass tones. keep in mind these units are designed for smaller spaces like bedrooms and the like. they will fall short if you are looking for the true "home theater" sound experience.... |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many hdmi cables do I need to buy to hook up to TV and the bar and subwoofer |
Answer: | 0. It does not have any HDMI connectors. You will need an Optical Cable to connect tge bar to your TV. The Subwoofer is wireless, so no cables are required apart from power cable which comes with the package. |
Question: | My subwoofer speaker goes in and out. Can I buy another subwoofer only |
Answer: | ** connection problems - Bluetooth signal between sound bar and sub can be disrupted VERY VERY easily if located too close to your Wi-Fi router or possibly a cell phone booster connected to WiFi in your home. Move at least 8 feet away from each other or more. This usually fixes the problem. Ps. I believe The sub is only paired with the original sound bar. You can’t mix or match subwoofers. Tried swapping mine out one time and they wouldn’t work. Then realized I swapped out the subs. I have two of these systems. One in my living room and one in my bedroom. Love them. Will not be disappointed! One of the best bang for the buck! Especially now that you can get them it’s such a discounted price. |
Question: | Is there a headphone jack for private listening |
Answer: | No, there isn't a dedicated headphone jack on this speaker bar, I did not check the subwoofer, but I doubt if it will have one. There is a jack for ADAPTiQ on side of the bar, which looks like a 3.5mm headphone jack, but I believe it does not work like one. |
Question: | Do you need to have a wifi router to connect the sound bar with the subwoofer or the soundbar has its own communication link |
Answer: | No wifi router is necessary. Great sound |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this new 5.1 model support 4K hdr pass through |
Answer: | This sound bar does not support 4K HDR pass through. |
Question: | Does it need a receiver or anything extra to set up with the TV |
Answer: | We just easily connected it to our TV. Nothing extra was needed. Great sound. |
Question: | How is the sounds from rear speakers? Own an older model and they satilite speakers never worked properly |
Answer: | Really depends on your source but IMHO the rear speakers are best when they create an "ambient" atmosphere since DTS:X adds a lot of "virtualization" to audio. I originally thought it would be better placement having the rear speakers closer to the "observer" (at ear level) however my experience has taught me having them mounted higher and farther (while still firing straight and towards the observer) makes a better atmosphere when viewing movies. |
Question: | are the sattelite speakers wireless as well |
Answer: | The satellite speakers are connected to the subwoofer through a provided speaker wire. The subwoofer then connects to the sound bar wireless. |
